Galaxy Size = Lots of megs

Plus, 176x176 sprites also add to a plug-ins size.

And I believe Mille Terrae, at 16 megs, is already the largest EVO plug-in ever in both systems and size, and its still being developed.

Not really - systs weigh in at a whopping 80-96 bytes , while spobs are only 32 bytes. Even with 1k systems and three times as many spobs, you're no where near "lots of megs".

If you're going to brag about how long it takes to download, then I'll let you know that my plug is at 14.9 megs right now. Three files, actually; much easier for ResEdit to handle - 3.4 megs, 2.5 megs, and 9 megs. Guess I don't have you beat there yet. Although if I were to add in the movies...

There was a 20 MB plug for EV quite a long time ago.

And Nova was reckoned to be around 40MBs, although what they are doing now may be very different.

Speaking for myself, my biggest problem was to get the file size down. The reason that the QTs in FH are so grotty is that I compressed them to the limit with Sorensson compression (kind of appropriate, really) and kept the window size tiny. Without heavy compression, they would easily have taken up about 20 MB excluding the plugin. I avoided them in FF altogether, partly for that reason.

However, anyone really desperate to make the biggest plugin ever should just include a ten minute sound track at the beginning.

The point of 1KW is not to make the biggest plug-in merely for the sake of being biggest. A trmendously long download with lousy content would likely raise the ire of every person who downloaded it. I know I'd be ticked off.

True, it will be big - probably the biggest, but maybe not - but that's only a byproduct of including everything that we want to include; it isn't the chief goal. AFAIK, the use of movies will be minimal or non-existant for exactly the reasons that Martin Turner mentioned.

I don't want this to turn into a competition: "who can make the biggest plug?"

Now "who can make the most interesting plug?" or "who's plug has the better storyline?" or something along those lines is another story. I'd welcome that sort of friendly competition.

IMO, arguing over plug size is not only silly but counter-productive. As I said, huge download time without a gripping plot as a payoff will just earn us the community's rancor.
