What's the worst plugin you've ever played for EV or EVO?

Watch out for runaway Command Centres!
By reputation, Universe Next Door (EVO) is considered a horrid plug. P.D.A. Inc. (EV) is just insane. I'd have to go with any cheater plugs, New Horizons (EV), EVO Tech Update (duh), and DeathStar (EV).

Damn right. Other plugs may have their flaws, but UND is generally regarded as bottom of the heap. It's buggy, the enormous spin graphics bog down the game engine, I never did manage to track down the plot and the alien ships are too powerful and destroy the balance of the game.
Cheater plugs don't irritate me. If you want to use them, use them. If you don't (and I don't), then don't. Unless multiplayer EV/O comes along and allows online use of these plugs (pretty much impossible) their use remains a matter for the individual player.

Good plug-ins that turn bad: Final Battle.
Revolutionary storyline (confeds and rebels close the war), awesome graphics; what held it back? The non-changing of the galaxy when the union is formed, the price ballence of ships, and the ridiculous amount of bugs... uggh, they make be shudder by thinking about them.

I think I saw a bug fix for FB on the EV addons...not by the original staff. I think they're all dead. It wasn't TOO riddled with bugs, except at the end. Oh, and the Rebel's Plasma Mortar Turrets really unbalanced the game. You could kill anything with those faster then you can say "kick @$$."
Final Battle 2: Xenocide was looking pretty good. The graphics would rival Nova's I bet (though I haven't seen any graphics in Nova). I was even on the graphics team of Xenocide :D. Skyhawk (creator) kind of died or went on to live a non-EV oriented life. After that, the project just slowly fell apart.

I personally absolutely hated the Star Wars plugs for the original EV. They had a lot of potential, but the sprites/graphics were buggy as hell, and the masks for the ships were severely distorted on my computer when I tried it.
Universe Next Door sux too.

I disliked the Star Wars plug too, although I used a number of fixes that they had released for the sprites and didn't have much trouble with it. What I didn't like was that this "total conversion" went to all the trouble of modelling and rendering these graphics, then added about ten missions (consisting of the entire Star Wars trilogy!), changed a few planet descs, and called it done. Aside from the ships, it was still EV! That's just a waste of everyone's time. If you're gonna do a TC, make it TOTAL! grr... mumble... snarl....

As a rather jaded former Final Battle II, Xenocide and Epsilon contributor, let me chime in here:

Final Battle was a good plugin, without a doubt. It had revolutionary graphics for its time, and frankly, it was a damn fun play if you could skirt the bugs. However, it was ruined by two major factors:
1.) The integration with Bounty!, by WickedDyno (neΓ© the Lord of Lemmings) while in theory a good idea was pulled off rather poorly. Bounty used weapons in line with Altered States, by Benjamin Singely (author of Pale, a.k.a. Soul). They were not modified to be brought in line with the traditional weapons physics employed by FB, and thus totally unbalanced the game.
2.) The plugin was publicised widely on its website, and Skyhawk was baraged with spam, flames, unsolicited comments and other garbage. His beta testers all abandoned him with the lone exception of The Old Professor. His ambitious release date of August 1st was totally unrealistic, and it wasn't until September that he was able to ship version 1.0 Unfortunatly, 1.0 was really nothing more than a public beta. The final update under his auspices, 3.0 was barely any better. Even WickedDyno's much improved version 4.1 is still flawed.

That's certainly a pleasant way of putting it. Final Battle 2 was all hype and no product. In the history of the project, a grand total of THREE ships were modelled and rendered by Skyhawk, and only one of them ever reached what could be considered final stage. The plot started out bad and ended up a distorted conglomeration of once-viable ideas.
This, of course, only got worse once we decided to divorce the plugin from EV's backstory, necessitating a complete revamp of the Xeno/Vhore/Vitache system. The entire project got muddled down in beurocracy, and nothing ever ended up getting produced besides about 120-odd bryce-rendered planet views by yours truly (now being used by AJ in his current project, Kiki), a ton of useless plot and backstory by Skyhawk and a few cool images by the graphics crew.
Then along came Project Epsilon, the bane of anything resembling productivity out of the team. Basically, after Skyhawk finished muddling his way through SAT, we were on course to get some actual work done, until he decided in his infinite wisdom that everything he'd learned was wrong and delegated the job of making an entirely new sprite engine to Jos Delbar (a.k.a. laer, former site admin). Now, it should be mentioned that laer was extremely productive. It's just that the team leader was unknowlegable and kept getting his internet access pulled for three-month periods twice a year or so. It's simply not possible to write a game under those conditions.
Somewhere along the line, the hideously deformed beast that Xenocide had become kinda got ground mercifully underfoot.
Fortunatly for us, there is hope. First Exobattle, and now Terminus are fulfilling our dreams for EV3D. kberg's awesome project has in the space of a few months gotten as far as Epsilon was at the end of a full year of spotty, off-and-on work. Matt Burch and Andrew Welch's recommitment to the EV engine with 1.0.2's slew of upgrades is heartening to say the least, and Pipeline's work with Nova is going to reinvigorate EV in ways that EVO never managed. To all of them, I wish good luck, and to Skyhawk, I say: good riddance.

(Sorry if anyone is offended by my disenchanted rant. It's not really Skyhawk's fault so much as his unreliablity that doomed Epsilon. I'm just speaking as a guy who spent two years of his life dedicated to a hopeless dream he just recently woke up from.

I'm also making a pretty big plug too :D.
It'll be based on a game named Final Fantasy, and it'll convert everything (No EVO stuff will be remained, except the drum roll thing)
All new ships too. About 20.

Don't you just hate vaporware? BTW, I believe that Skyhawk is still programming Epsilon, so he's not exectly dead.

Who's General Failure and why's he reading my disk?
This agrees with something I've believed in for a long time; NEVER release a plug before it's bug free.
I protest! New Horizons is a great add-on! It is big, and the missions are hard to find, but it is great! Now Arena Plus, now that is vaporware! (I'm the producer of it!)
Arena Plus Light will be released on the 29th!

Heh. Reading about the death spiral of FB2 and Epilson was amusing and enlightening - from what it seems, the chances of me getting a Porsche is more likely than Epsilon ever being finished.
Other much hyped, much delayed plugins include:
Cold Blood - another amazing looking plugin. Graphics that rival Nova's, intriguing storyline and background, the whole works. Nothing has been heard from it in months; however, the creator has promised it by June 2001. Frozen Heart 3 - about to enter beta months ago, little has been heard from it since; apparently it's undergone massive changes.
And of course, the perennialy delayed plugin: New Republic. In development since 1997 or 1998, it 'went' into beta several times, and has yet to produce any tangible results, aside from some pretty graphics.

I knew Martin was working on it quite a while back. However, I never saw anything...
I assume that as he is now working on FH3, there must have been an FH2 out a while ago...
If anyone knows, I'd be interested.

Yeah), so what if I'm an Emo Nerd?
It's Frozen Heart 2, and I'm still working on it.
I don't think you can really accuse it of being much-hyped -- I asked for Beta Testers a few months ago in one board message. I've not been hyping it since, and I am still working on it most days.
