    • Is this possible in a plug-in?

I know that you can recieve outfits by completing a mission, but what if I wanted to give the player a map -- not a just regional map, but one that reveals a large portion of the galaxy -- would I be able to do it? And would I have to make this other map another outfit, but just make it unpurchasable?

      Thanks.

Eye of Orion had a Galactic Map. you just change the modval to a large number, assign it a number and a mission bit, and dont offer it as an outfit (by the tech level, as i recall).

the EoO Galactic map (as well as using this technique in other ways) would sometimes leave certain sectors greyed out and unexplored, but i think i fixed that when i hacked it and raised the modval from 8 to 99.

as for certain sectors and not others, you got me on that one.

    • What I'm trying to do is this:

The player completes the mission. He meets with the Admiral dude, who says, "<PN>, here is a map of Sector (insert sector name here). It will help you." Not exact mission text, (duh) but you get the jist, right? I was wondering if it was possible to make a map that was larger than a regional map, but smaller than a galactic map, that was unpurchasable. Oh, well. Thanks, anyway, guys.

Yes, that is (or should be, I haven't tried) quite possible, but keep in mind that the mapped area is centered on where you are when you get the map.

    • Yep, that is possible. You would have to make a new outfit resource for it, though. Set the outfit Mod Type to 16, and the Mod Value to however many jumps you want to reveal.

You can cause the completion of certain missions to give the player an outfit. Set the PayVal field of the mission resource to -20xxx, where xxx is the ID of the outfit you made.

I think this is what you wanted to do, right?

Yeah, but since you would meet the guy in a certain place, whatever system, when you completed the mission, it would work.

If I understand you correctly, yes, it is. Thanks.

    • There's a bug somewhere in EVO that might cause a problem with this.

Towards the end of Frozen Heart, you're supposed to be able to have your record cleared with all governments.

I originally wrote this that you would simply receive an outfit which did this on mission completion. I tried it about a hundred times and it never worked, which is why (for those who have played it) you have to 'collect' your amnesty from the outfitters — which is in my view a bit daft, like going down to a garage to pay your income tax.

This bug seems to apply to things which immediately change the player's universe, and I seem to remember that maps also face the problem.

As a work around, just have a mission-bit related outfit that can only be purchased once a particular bit is set.

Hope this helps. I look forward to your plugin.

    • Martin, do you not have something similar in FF when Jasta joins the salvage company?

      ------------------

    • Yes, I think so, and I think I did the same thing as in FH — got you to buy it from the outfitters.

If memory serves me correctly, this is also what happens in Eye of Orion.
