Humans advaced in huge jumps, there technolgy rose to the highest point in history and we conquered the stars. Humans spread to the farthest edges of the galaxy, planets were terraformed and huge city's were raised, huge ships carried people thousands of light years to the most distant planets.
Then it happend huge alien fleets attacked wiping out planets and pushing the humans back. Wars raged for hundreds of years as the humans lost planet after planet, system after system.
Mankind was pushed back to it's birth place, the only human system left.
Mankind forgot it's former glory it's technolgical achievments, it couldn't fight back. Hyper space storms made traveling to other systems imposible humans were stuck on Earth. We turned on each other each power trying to gain control, Earth was ravaged by war the former city's were reduced to rubble, the pride of humanity had fallen.
Then when all was nearly lost, one man rose to power, he united the fueding powers and led mankind to take back the stars.
Under the rule of the Emperor we took back the stars, what was lost was now back in our control planets were freed and the Imperium was born ,the united planets pushed back the alien tide and once again was a fighting force in the galaxy.
Then the now sucsessfull Empire was again ravaged by war, Half the Imperial forces turned against the Emperor and the Imperium.
Galaxy wide civil war followed ,the loyalist forces were pushed back again to their routes back to Earth, their last stand.
The loyalist troops emerged victorious they pushed the rebellion back and was victorious. But at great cost the Emperor had been killed in the fighting and the Imperium was know without a leader, the imperium had to survive.
Bieng attacked from every side the Imperium needs an ally. Huge alien fleets from the south and rebel forces from the north the Empire is crumbling.
This is where you come in, born into a rich merchant family you set off in to the crumbling Empire to seek your fortune. Help the Imperium and hold together the Empire of humanity against alien threats or side with the alien and rebel forces to go against it and destroy the last hope of the humanity.
