    • To those considering holding back plugs for EV3, read this.....

      .....don't even think about it.

As it stands now, EV3 is LONG ways away. Just because we've seen samples (6 prototype pics, no more than tat) doesn't mean it will be done anytime soon. I doubt the scenario itself is even 15% done, never mind testing the game and rooting out all the bugs and adding all of the new features. EV3 will be done when its done, as Andrew Welsh has said. EV3 is a great future, but its a future a ways off yet.

On the other hand, EVO 1.0.2 has a lot of new possibilites that can be exploited, and the game needs more quality plugs. If you have a great idea, do NOT wait for EV3!!! Write it for EVO (EV if you have a mind to) so people can enjoy it and love playing it now, that's what plug developing is all about. When you have a motivation to do something you don't wait a year and give the inspiration a chance to pass out of your mind, you jolt it down on paper and make it reality. The same conceptgoes for plugs.

Too many good ideas get thrown on the wayside and eventually die like this....before the excuse was "I'll wait for 1.0.2", now its "I'll wait for EV3". Such thinking is not good for the EV universe. Just write the best plug you can make, and have fun doing it! That's what counts. Who knows, perhaps you will be able to make an EV3 version later, or be inspired to write a different plug for that.

To paraphrase an opening scene to a certain movie....be mindful of the future, but never at the expense of the moment!

    • I don't necessarily agree with the overall analysis of the timeframe for EV3, but I absolutely agree with the sentiment. If you want to make a plug, do it now and make it for engines that already exist. Hell, if EV3 is everything it seems cracked up to be (evil grin) any ideas you have for plugs now will have to be ~vastly~ updated to use all the new features. As a result the ideas you have now will either end up looking nothing like their original selves or will end up on the scrapheap anyway.

So do not wait!! I say again, if you want to make a plug, make it now, don't wait for something better to come along - after all, what you have now is more than adequate to have fun with...

Still, our fun will overfloweth when EV3 does come out (IMHO)...

      (insane cackle)

Plus, some ridiculously lucky plug-in developers might have the EV3 engine before the public does to beta-test. If you see any, kick their asses.

    • I agree with crusadwe here. Why bother making a plug-in that not going to be even played or tested until EV3 is out when you can make one now.
