    • 1000 Worlds website

Octoberfost has already mentioned the 1000 Worlds project on this board, now we have a website: (url="http://"http://pantheon.yale.edu/~aoe2/main.html")http://pantheon.yale...~aoe2/main.html(/url)
We invite you all to visit, take a look, and tell us what you think. We could still use help putting together the plug-in: it's a big undertaking and we're a little bit short-handed, so anyone who is excited about what they see on the site should drop us a line.

Do you have any governments, big or small --perhaps half-made, perhaps only a thought in your head-- that you really like but have never been able to complete or fit into a plug? Make a part of our project and help fill out our huge universe.

Boy, that's a sales pitch if I've ever written one; come to our site and see what we're up to.

    • Sweet site! You guys, have a lot of momentum going, keep it up!

      Best of luck,

    • What happened to the Evadians? 😄

    • Are you packing systems with planets or making a multitude of systems?

We haven't heard from you for a while so we didn't know whether you were still involved. There are a number of people, 3 or 4, who want to use the remaining 2 resource allocations. At them moment, we don't know who will use them, but the decision will be made pretty soon. In fact, we're designing the map now, and if you're not on it, it may be difficult to add you later. I have tried to reserve your place, but if you want to make a large government, or even a much smaller one, you'll have to get involved and make sure people know it. We can't keep a resource slot for someone we don't know is working.

I'd say a little bit of both. Most recently we were discussing a universe about 700 systems in size. We may not quite make as many as 1000 worlds.

Well, the point in leaving about 300 s˙st slots open is that we plan to have many galaxy-changing missions. The galaxy will still be more than twice the size of EVO's galaxy, so that's cool.

Obormot, I think Yorick was wondering if 1000 Worlds might mean 1000 spobs, not 1000 systems. Which is a good idea. We can't make 1000 systems or we give up the use of visbits, but we might make 1000 spobs. I don't think it's worth spending time and energy just to try to get to the number up to 1000 if the plug doesn't need that many. But people are going to wonder whether 1000 Worlds really has 1000 worlds.

      Bubbles

    • A thousand Worlds WILL have a thousand worlds, I'll see to that 😉

Bubbles, please contact me ASAP. By Email. Now, to be more specific.

Seems to make more sense if you have something to tell me that you e-mail me, doesn't it? It's not as if we can hold a conversation by e-mail.

    • Gah, I am busy right now. I have posted recently under the 1000 syst project thread under the main EVO board...Why don't I hear about these things? If we're designing a galaxy, I need to get in on it. Remember, my email is col22@earthlink.net. As far as I've heard until now, I still had the first ID slot. A few things skipped though...such is syst 128, where the player starts etc. (We need to figure out where the player starts)

    • Hey this is really cool so don't die on us like some of the others .
I'll be the first to get it! I've been hoping for something like this since I'm really bored. Also great site ! Keep it updated for us followers. Hope to play this soon.

    • There's one problem about these "giant universes." How to get around! Guys, be sure to make some long hyperlinks like that one in Beyond the Crescent, or else I'll go broke buying fuel! Kool site guys, best of luck.

    • I agree with the captain over there. A massive array of jump gates that circles the galaxy would probably be a nessecity, and of course a large fuel tank expansion :).

I've had something in my head for a while, but unfortuneately I am not experienced at all with making plug-0ins, graphics, etc. :frown:

If I can email you a detailed layout of the government and what I would liek the ships to look like, and some stories, would that help somewhat?

You're welcome to send me your ideas, but at the moment, we have no shortage of concepts for governments. Everyone who's working with us so far has brought their own ideas with them. I'm afraid that if you can't realize most of your ideas yourself, we can't support additional ideas for governments in the project.

However, making plugs is hard work and it requires skills that take some time to develop. So if you want some experience, to help you learn how to develop your own ideas later on, this project might be good for you. We welcome anyone who's interested, experienced or not.

What, you guys never heard of fuel scoops?

I suppose there is a possibility of a few "wormholes" to reduce travel time between distant parts of the galaxy, but lets face, space is a big place and it's going to take time to get around.

Note to mission designers: take the size of the galaxy and distances into account when planning missions. Not only for timed missions, but others as well, it is really boring and annoying to have to travel the width of the galaxy for a simple mission that could be accomplished within a few jumps of the starting point. A little thought about where the mission will be given to the player and where the player must go could make the game proceed much more quickly without losing anything.

An advantage of a quick and easy way to get around is that it would accentuate the diversity of our universe. Unless each system is interesting and intruiges people (which would be nice, too) or even if they are, people may get mired in hyperjumps in order to get where they want to go. If the capital worlds are the only interesting part of each area of space, people might feel they're doing nothing but traveling between interesting places. Maybe we should make a sort of highway system between large regions of space: long links to connect disperate regions of the galaxy. Well traveled route. hmmmm, I see the potential for an interstellar police force, on the theme of Servack's old idea...

I agree. As good as F-25 is, it's one plug that makes this mistake a lot.

I would be happy to join up, but unfortunately I cannot at the moment due to football starting. I practice practically the whole day, so I have no free time to work on anything on the computer (aside from the middle of the night...such as now).

Also, I recently found out that my (personal) computer has a faulty logic board and consequently it doesn't work anymore! (I am writing on my father's computer, if you're wondering.) This comp that I'm using now does not have enough memory to hold some of the tools that would be required. And also, I would be yelled at for being at the computer all of the time, which is just plain annoying.

I do wish you all very good luck in making this thing, though! Is ther any chance I could help alpha or beta test once in a while?
