    • Intro Music and CD questions

This has probably been asked before, but since I have a few questions that might be new, I'm not going to bother finding previous posts.

First Question: What is the maximum quality that EVO supports for intro music? I know it allows sterio, but I have the vague idea that I once heard someone say that it allowed sounds up to (insert whatever number it was here) which I know was higher than the sound effects limit.

#2: How can I get parts of tracks off a CD and into SoundEffects or Res Edit?

#3: Is that legal? (In this case I would be using my Star Wars sound track CD.)

    • #1) It supports stereo? I didn't know that...anyway, the maximum bit quality is 8, I believe, and the maximum frequency is 22kHz, unlike the 11kHz for in-game sounds.

#2) Got an old copy of MoviePlayer? It can convert CD to sound files.

#3) I don't think so. Not without consent of the original creator and distributer.

      ------------------

    • I've had it work at 44.1kHz so if it goes that high, I'm assuming it probably goes up to 48kHz. Also, I'd recomend 8 bit and mono, to save space, because it takes up a lot of space fast, but yet it does support stereo and 16 bit.

It probably isn't legal. But that's never stopped plug developers from using them. I remember hearing star wars music in a StarWars plug and the Phantom Menace music is used in Mugabi and Destiny(which i think is a great plug).

    • Hmm... I'd like to meet the person that actually understands these copyright laws...

Well I have Movie Player as a safegurad against all the shortcomings of the new "Quicktime Player", but I'd rather stay legal if you know what I mean. I'll give it a shot anyway, its not like I'm going to give it away or anything right now.

No, it is not legal. If you didn't create it (art, music, sound effects, graphics, whatever) you are not allowed to copy it (other than for personal use) without permission.

      Eh, no.

    • Well that was fun. The quicktime movie of the Star Wars main theme was 50 MB. I then reduced it to 22khz and 8 bit and it shrunk to 16 MB. Now that I had it down to size I could bring it into SoundEffects for disecting without memory errors. I wound up with a chunk that lasts about a minute give or take 10 seconds, is almost indest - dang, now how the heck do you spell that stupid word - from the CD and is 1.6 MB.
