    • I got some Questions and some Comments 4 EVO 1.0.2

My only real question is for EVO 1.0.1. I've been playing 1.0.0 and it workd fine, but when i started with 1.0.1 it's been really choppy. I've tried it with virtual memory off, virtual memory on, RAM doubler off, RAM doubler on, quickdraw off, quickdraw on, etc. I can't think of anything else to try. Anybody have any suggestions.

As for 1.0.2 my suggestions are as follows:

      1. display a percent number next to the fuel & shield/armour bars

      2. add a flag field that would allow you to make certain outfits and weapons illegal in certain governments. This would really help out my new plug (which i'll post info on later, i dont have time now)

      3. make it less choppy (i think something to do with buffer space got changed but im not sure)

Got any more ideas? Post 'em here!

    • Like the first two, but the third isn't a problem for me so I can't say.

If I understand the changes Matt is planning, you'll be able to do this with a bitset in a field of the wëap resource. It'll be a little complicated, but it should be possible. For instance: on buying a weapon, set a bit that makes a autoaborting mission available in all bars in which a character approaches the player and says: "hey did you know that thing you bought is illegal?" As part of the result of the mission, change the players legal status with a government. The only problem I see is that you could concievalby sell the outfit and still be in trouble with the government. Actually, that's a real problem. You'd have to make the outfit unsellable. Unless...

Matt: Will there also be a bitset (or bitclear) for selling weapons? There might be many uses for that. Hmmm... lots of uses...

In fact, following that train of though through a complicated evolution, I'm going to go so far as to make a radical suggestion. I don't know if there are technical reasons why this wasn't done, cause I don't know anything about technical reasons, but it seems to me it would simplify the game: Everything that's not a ship might be bought and sold in the same place. You could just use an ineffective version of an existing outfit type replace commodities. This would take a bunch of other changes to be perfectly effective, but it would simplify game play, I think. You'd want some system of changing and varying the prices of outfits, perhaps using the already existing öops system. One problem with this might be that ships that can carry weapons will be equally able to carry commodities. However, by assigning every weapon a flag as either a gun or a turret, you could limit the number of weapons a ship could take on. Thus you'd limit the number of weapons a ship could equip by the number of guns and turrets it could accomodate, which makes more sense than limiting it by mass. Finally, the last nessesary addition I can think of would be a way of increasing the number of channels in a ship to accomodate weapons systems, using an outfit (like the mass expansion).

      kberg, are you reading this?

PS. I'm under no illusion that this will happen.

    • I think it would rule of Escape Velocity went to the net. It could have 4-5 galaxys and clans, it would be cool but far fetched.
