Nope, that would require work. I don't think Ambrosia lets people work on EV, at least not while there're watching...

Hmmm, sometimes you have to wonder what's going on... Ambrosia's supposed attitude towards EV/EVO seems a bit lemming like considering how popular a game it continues to be.
I really doubt that Ambrosia wants to kill any evolution of EV/EVO, since it's already made them a large sum of money (and more importantly a devoted community). There's probably something else happening. Maybe Matt Burch gave EV/EVO to Ambrosia under certain restrictions, and somehow he retained rights to the code. That would sort of explain why Matt seems to be the only one to ever touch the EV code as well...
Anyone have any info on why Ambrosia seems so fatalistic about EV???

----I disagree, however, their attitude towards EV as compared to EVO is nothing short of abandonment.

Hmm... maybe one day I might meet all these people I've been working with for so long ...

PS. EVO 1.0.2 is still being worked on - there seems to have been a bit of a break over Easter (even extending to Orthodox Easter ... Hristos Voskrese, everyone!). New features additions have for the most part come to a halt - but that doesn't necessarily mean you should be holding your breath for the release. As for Ambrosia's 'attitude' towards EV/EVO - you have to remember that these days Ambrosia are basically responsible for the testing, advertising, troubleshooting, general administration, etc. - what was the last Ambrosia game released that was written by one of the full-time staff in Rochester (Apeiron?). The point is that they (Ambrosia) can't just say, 'Okay, let's do EVMP.' They employ (or are employed by, or just work with, depending on how you look at it) programmers, they don't have the resources necessary to do it all themselves - Matt is the only person in a position to do something radical in the direction of expanding EV, and, although no one else can speak for him, it doesn't seem that likely. IMHO, kberg's plan has the best shot - create something real and workable yourself, and then see where it goes.
I seriously doubt that EVO will ever had an expanded planets per system feature (seeing how its not currently one of the beta features being planned).
But, perhaps if some new EVO type game came out where the entire universe would be remolded again...who knows.
