How do you become a moderator and how do you close a topic?

You can't - we have 6 moderators as it is, and unless one of them suddenly hyperjumps into a black hole, you'll never be one.

Only moderators and admin can close topics.

Because it is full of stupid people talking crap on the wrong board.
Also i have never seen a moderator close a topic when it isn't there own board (they probably could, just that they don't out of respect to others)

You failed to factor in human stupidity and impulsiveness - if they can do it, they will do it. Thus, to avoid incredible outbursts of stupidity, the concept of moderators.

Just thought I'd straighten some stuff out:

moderators still show up as moderators on other ASW boards, but they CANNOT delete or close topics apart from on their own boards.

also, the reason we are moderators:

HellHunter, Scurvy and Jericon were admins/moderators on the old EV site. Blackhole and me (Mazca) were admins on the EV Developer's board, which got eclipsed by this one and then quietly went away. andrew very nicely offered us moderatorships on this one.
