I might buy RayDream 4.0 and i need opinoins on the program. I'm good with mechanist, but Raydream stuff by Shade and Onyx are really cool. What do you all think?

The interface kind of gets in your way in 4.0, makes doing things less convenient. The Rendering quality is unimpressive compared with Ray Dream 3D even. It It doesn't like to do tranparencies very well too. Buy if its what you can get, its what you can get. It'll work.
I guess what I'm trying to say here is that its harder to make it do something high quality than a newer product like Ray Dream Studio 5. You might be better off with Ray Dream 3D unless you're getting RD4 for real cheap. RD3D has the interface of RD5, but lacks things like deformers. I'm not really sure what exactly the limitations are, but the shaders seamed a bit limited...
Anyway its your purchase (therefore, I'm not making it for you). RD4 and RD3D are about evenly matched in pros and cons. I'd probably go with RD4, but its a fairly tough choice.

I just fiddled around some more in RD4 to make sure my assessment of the situation was accurate. As it turns out RD4 is quite a nice tool, I just never had the guts to get into texture maps! I'll post a link to my example as soon as I finish it. My rendering quality complaints don't hold much water since I wasn't really using the right techniques.
So essentially, yes, get RD4. It will serve you well (or well enough).
