And having people believe you is another problem
I would like to add that it is possible to complete that mission, or any other one with a time limit, in any ship in the game, provided you have the plug-in "Quick Jump". The latest version i know of is 1.2.1b, but it doesn't seem to have any obvious bugs.

Congrats.
My favorite plugs:
Frozen Heart
Femme Fatal
FOTVE
Empire Without End
Babylon 5
Reign of the UE
Triple Agent
Fourth Reich
F-25
I did extensive testing in EV: Override 1.0.2 this morning and figured out exactly what affects how much time passes on taking off and on jumping.
For starters, the Stop Zidagar Photographer mission has a time limit of 2 days. And the deadline of a mission is the first day on which it fails, meaning in order to complete that mission only one day could pass on the planet.
Planetfall durations:
At least one day always passes on take-off. An extra day passes if you buy or sell anything in the outfitter. An extra day passes for every two escorts you have. An extra four days pass if you buy a new ship.
1 day + (1 day if outfitted) + (1 day if 2-3 escorts, 2 days if 4-5 escorts, 3 days if 6 escorts) + (4 if bought ship)
So the maximum length of a planet-side stay is 9 days: have 6 escorts, buy a ship, and buy or sell at least one outfit. The minimum stay is 1 day, and that requires having fewer than two escorts, not changing your ship, and not buying or selling any outfits.
Thus, I failed the Stop Zidagar Photographer mission every time on account of having at least two escorts. In my tests I only used captured or hired escorts, and I did not test mission-granted ones. I suspect they do not affect landing times though.
Jump durations:
The number of days that pass in a hyperjump depends solely on the mass of the player's ship. Escorts have no effect.
Nova
By comparison, in EV: Nova 1.0.8 the jump takes as long as it would take the heaviest ship in the player's fleet, and landing takes 1 day plus 1 day if you buy or sell and outfits, plus 4 days if you buy a ship. Escorts don't affect land-fall durations in Nova. I did not test whether mission-granted escorts affect jump times, but I suspect they do not.
Thanks for the research, Qaanol.
Ok, boffin, now do my history homework for me.
I was thinking the same as whatsit some time back. Check the mission ou on resedit or preferably mission computer by david arthur. Otherwise - my advice is give up.
PS: just kidding awesome research
