      Converting EVN To EVO Plugin

I was wondering if there was anyone who had previously attempted to take EVN and convert it into an EVO plugin. If so please email me, for I'm about to undertake the challenge of doing so. If anyone has any input on this matter, it would be very helpful. Thanks.Gilomatic@verizon.net

    • Welcome, Durandal85

I doubt this has been done because it doesn't make sense. Nova has a far superior game engine. Besides, you would work your little fingers to the bone on it just to find out it wouldn't be approved for the Addons Page because ASW is still making money off Nova.

If you have that much time, why not head down to the Developers Corner and volunteer to help on a one of the current plugin projects?

    • I suppose you could message one of Atmos. I think Nova started out as an Override TC.

    • The Nova baseline scenario makes substantial use of features (crons, inertialess ships, contribute/require bits, shield-ignoring weapons) that the Override engine doesn't support. Additionally, the graphics in Nova are much higher quality than the EVO engine runs (16bit vs 8bit color) and things like beam weapons are much more primitive in EVO. Any attempt to convert would be plagued with serious differences that simply couldn't be worked around. You could end up with a version of Nova that ran on the EVO engine, but it would be substantially worse and it would be a huge amount of effort just to get it in that state.

Nova was originally an EVO plugin (I've seen a few screenshots) but it was never anywhere near finished, in that state.

    • In short, you can't convert Nova to an EVO plug-in.

You can make an EVO plug-in that is like Nova, but it just won't really be Nova.

    • ... what the hell would be the point anyway... ?
