    • The Rock

Call me lousy at this game (even though I've played many times already), but I can never manage to destroy the Rock. I've tried all ships: Zidagar, Adzgari, Igadzra, you name it! I'm at the end of my tether. Please help before I go nuts trying to figure out how to finish this!

    • Crescent ships fire weapons strong against shields and weak against armor. To gain an advantage against them, use a ship with heavy armor. If you have done the UE string, add Dospect to your ship. If you have done the Voinian string, use a Voinian capital ship.

The other option is to go for speed. In this case, and Azdara is your best friend. Add Dospect armor and your regen rate will make you truly outrageous. If you really want it to be easy, get an Enhanced Arada from the Azdgari string. However, just getting that ship may prove more difficult that attacking The Rock. Getting a Voinian Dreadnought is also tough, but worth it. Getting six as escorts is über.

In fact, if you get six Voinian Cruiser or even Frigate escorts you shouldn't have a problem, especially if you use one of those for yourself. Go for armor and for firepower against shields.

    • Or if your name is Qaanol, you could go straight there in a stock shuttle and defy the laws of reality.

    • Well, yeah, but that goes without saying. 🆒

Actually, I've never tried this particular mission in a shuttle. I think I'll go do that now...

    • If your neutron guns won't catch the Crescent fighters, replace them with phase cannons.

    • The Crescent Fighters are the least of your concerns. And by "least" I mean "greatest". Except they're really easy to deal with. grin

Yep, that's right: I beat the mission with a Shuttle, and no escorts. I couldn't do it stock though. I died just getting into the system. I used outfits, and lots of them, but in the end it was still a Shuttle that beat the rock solo, and it was still strategy that won the day.

I took my Shuttle and sold its Blaze Cannon. This left me with 20 tons each of cargo and weapons space. Dospect Armor gave me a chance at survival for more than six sevenths of a second. I headed to Zidagar space to complete the "Observe Mark" mission with the beam Igazras to get an extra 20 tons of space. I bought a mass expansion which left me with 30 space and 5 cargo. This I filled with an Afterburner, a Fuel Scoop, and 3 Swivel Phase Cannons.

Thus prepared, I headed off to attack the Rock. The Crescent Fighters swarmed me, I couldn't outrun them, their relentless phase pulses steadily depleted my armor, and I kicked my strategy into overdrive.

The first few seconds were costly, but worth it. With the Crescent Fighters gone, I turned my attention to their motherships. A simple matter of Monty-Pythoning the Crescent Warships to about 20% then rushing in for the kill so they wouldn't jump out of the system did the trick. The Zachit ships, especially the Miranu Gunships, that come with the mission helped speed things up at the end by killing several of the warships for me, but that just made it go faster. Anyway, they wouldn't have been able to accomplish anything if I hadn't taken care of the fighters for them and kept the Crescent Warships angry with me rather than them.

Really, though, what it came down to was my ability to dismiss the threat of the Crescent Fighters out of hand right from the start. The trick is to consider all the options at your disposal.

So, can you tell how I did it?

I wonder if Voinian Interceptors are bribable... if so then I really will be able to defeat the Dreadnought in a stock shuttle. shrug

😄 high fives Qaanol Thanks! Someone told me to do that when I kept failing that one mission where you take on a bunch of CWs just south of Igadzra.

    • Qaanol: By now you may or may not have found Voinian interceptors (and other Voinian ships) unbribeable.

    • Thanks for the info. I hadn't checked yet. But I'm pretty sure I bumped up against that when I did take out the Dreadnought with a Shuttle, way back when, which is why I needed the Plasma Siphon.

    • Hey, thanks for the tip! I'd never pass that mission without you guys. Thanks again!
By the way, is the destroy the rock mission a central objective?

    • It's not one of the three central objectives of EVO. It is a major mission for the Zachit string, though.

      EVO Central Objectives:
      1. Explore the Nebulas
      2. Defeat the Voinians
      3. Destabilize the Strand War
