The Emalgha, hopelessly outnumbers, fired all remaining ammo at the most heavily damaged frigates and went on the complete defense. They began to move away from the systems center, Warships using their Thermite turrets to blast holes in the enemies squadrens. Drones loaded back into their Freighters. The Modified Freighters, which had previously been outside the battle, went the opposite direciton as the rest of the fleet; they headed right for the Voinians. As another Warship blew up, the two groups of ships crossed paths, the Emalghan ships jumped into hyperspace, leaving the freighters firing their two turrets each at the most damaged enemy ships to clear a path. As the first freighters shields began to fall, the front 15 freighters engines overloaded; a moment later, the Thermite explosives inside detonated. Because of the prior engine explosion, the molten Thermite was thrown forwards directly into the middle of the Voinian fleet. Interceptors and Heavy Fighters were vaporized, and the armor stripped from Frigates. Through the burning fireball, 20 more freighters slugged through. As their shields were stripped due to the dissipating explosion, the 20 freighters erupted in a manner similar to the first, except in the direction of the most concentrated mass of Voinian ships. The resulting fireball vaporized more fighters, as well as the already damaged Frigates, and even a Cruiser or two. The last 20 Freighters, now under attack (thus becoming 17 Freighters), detonated in several directions, taking even more ships with them.

As the Emalghans greatly outnumbered the Voinians, they began to have the upper hand. An obscene amount of rockets launched into the most damaged Voinian Frigates, causing a good half dozen to detonate instantly. The Warships and Freighters, slightly faster than the Cruisers, began to move backwards, just out of the Cruisers range, while still firing vigorously with turrets. Fighters and Drones covered the Warships and Freigters. Drones, now out of the Cruisers range, could successfully piss the hell out of and eventually destroy a good amount of Heavy Fighters and Interceptors. Try as they might, the Cruisers simply could no longer provide support with their Neutron Turrets.

      Fleet Losses:
      Emalgha:
      151 Fighters (39 Destroyed)
      193 Warships (27 Destroyed)

    • Dogover System
The commander of the United Earth fleet gave out orders to the Grand Armada to begin an attempt to punch through the Voinian hordes. Through much luck and blaze fire, a hole was punched through and the Armada began to advance outwards, firing off missiles at the Voinian foe as they retreated.

On the bridge of the Prometheus, the Director shook his head, knowing that their defense of the system was doomed. It was the last thing he ever did, as the U.E. Carrier collapsed and exploded under a barrage of rocket fire. The commander of the fleet sighed when he saw the Prometheus and thus the Director go up in flames, hoping that the next leader would be more combat-capable. Not that the Director was incompetent...but he was a bit careless, and didn’t seem to have the flexibility required to win the war against the hated Empire...the fleet continued moving out, in their effort to escape...

    • (- Kelmaon -)

As the Cahaari smoothly exitted hyperspace into Kelmaon on a regular patrol of the system, its pilot narrowed his deathly white eyes at the sight being displayed on his proximity display. As he re-entered realspace, the Cahaari’s systems had immediately called for a complete lower level system-wide scan to search for activity, with its pilot fully expecting to find one other Azdara patrolling the other side of the star system.

Instead, the Cahaari’s sensors quickly located something different. There were five Azdaras in the system, and all of them were nearby to the only habitable planet in this system, named by convention after the system’s star: Kelmaon.

Marafey’s secondary patroller... Leka’s tertiary... Two of these ships should be heading out to Qerid to relieve the primary patrols there , the pilot mused to himself. What is going on here?

Before he had time to open a communication channel with one of the six Azdaras, a channel was opened on the other side. It was Kohati, an Azdgari he knew in passing.

“Azhaurai, we’ve been waiting for you,” Kohati proclaimed over the channel, which was auditory only. “I know you’re heading to patrol ‘2189, but we have a situation on our hands here. We’ve been waiting for you before we investigate.”

A situation? Why would they wait for m-... Ah. Likely I am significantly higher in ranking than they, and my history of mentors often has an effect on people. They were waiting for my presence before they moved in. Moved in... where?

“If you were patrolling as per your instructions, Kohati, there would be no situation. You should be heading to ‘682, true?” Azhaurai responded over the channel after a second to confirm on the Cahaari’s logs that Kohati was scheduled to patrol DSN-682 before returning to Muid. Only one Azdara was scheduled to be in Kelmaon - the others’ presence was leaving gaps in the Azdgari patrol network.

If Azdgari social standing had been determined by age, Kohati, who was over twice Azhaurai’s age, would have taken precedence over him. However, Azhaurai held respect far beyond his years, and not only because Kyhaan had mentored him from infancy. He was level-headed and had skilled both behind an Azdara and in a firefight, as he had proven repeatedly.

“We’re not looking at something that’s arrived via hyperlink,” Kohati replied hurriedly. He flagged a location to the Cahaari , in much the same way Azdara pilots would flag targets to each other to swarm. The location was on the surface of the planet Kelmaon, and the Cahaari’s lower level scans had detected nothing.

Curious, Azhaurai quickly initiated a higher level scan of the planet, while moving his Azdara towards the others, closing on the planet and quickly entering its upper orbit. When the higher level scan was completed, Azhaurai’s eyes narrowed again. Interesting.

There were lifeforms on the surface - three of them, and as the scan continued it quickly became evident that they were not Azdgari. They were completely unfamiliar to the Cahaari’s databanks, which would recognise Igadzra, Zidagar, Miranu, and countless animals indigenous to worlds populated all over the Crescent. Who are they?

“Any idea how they arrived here?”Azhaurai inquired of Kohati over the channel. There was a brief pause.

“Da’hari was in-system when they arrived. He detected a significant energy signature very close to them, but we’ve been unable to pick up anything since then. No idea what it was, it didn’t match any of the energy patterns we’ve come to expect of realspace-hyperspace connections. There was another signature a bit later... a message, we think, but we can’t decrypt it.”

Azhaurai nodded to himself, as if expecting this. No doubt the others were completely shocked, but it made some degree of sense. The only way anyone was getting onto Kelmaon was with technology completely foreign to the Azdgari. And everything seemed to imply that they were completely alien.

“Should we engage them, Azhaurai?” Kohati asked over the channel. “We’re unsure of their level of technology, but there are three of them and they do not seem to possess any sort of vehicle or craft. Seven Azdaras can end their lives in a second, and then we can investigate how they arrived here.”

Azhaurai considered it. Certainly, no level of technology could enable three badly equipped aliens on land to defeat seven Azdaras - noting the positions of the other Azdaras, Azhaurai realised they were all in range of the lifeforms with their phase weaponry. If he said yes, they would be dead in less than a second.

“No,” he replied finally. Better to find out what we can learn from them, and destroy them if they prove to be of no use to us. For now... Attacking is not the right decision. “Leave Da’hari and two other Azdgari who are least useful in a firefight. Tahal is here, right?” Cahaari’s sensors quickly confirmed. Azhaurai was pleased. Tahal was good in a close quarters situation. “You and him are with me.”

Quickly flagging the Azdaras of Kohati and Tahal, the Cahaari entered low orbit of Kelmaon, choosing a location about fifty metres away from the lifesigns to land. As he did so, he received a confirmation that Kohati had requested the other Azdaras hold positions, and received confirmations from each of them that they had the lifeforms in their sights and could annihilate them on narrow dispersion immediately.

      ----------------

The three Azdaras landed not far from where the three lifesigns were. They landed such that they surrounded the strange rock formation that seemed to partially house these lifeforms, phase cannons all facing in such a direction that they could fire upon the position immediately. Azhaurai was the first to leave his Azdara, taking with him a small computer attached to his left forearm, with which he could control some of the Cahaari’s more basic functions - including its weaponry. He also took his scimitar, but took an ordinary pistol as opposed to a phase rifle. He wore a long black robe to cover the weaponry, which would make it more difficult to use, but would at least not threaten the aliens. There wasn’t much call for heavy weaponry - the Azdaras were for that.

He quickly met up with Kohati and Tahal, who thankfully also wore long robes. Tahal was extremely tall for an Azdgari and wore a green robe much the same colour as the Azdara, and Kohati’s robe was a paler green, mirroring his eyes.

The three Azdgari crossed the distance quickly, Azhaurai walking in front. Something moved in front of him - they had been seen. Kohati kept back, his right arm touching his left wrist, ready to call the Azdaras to fire in a moment’s notice. Tahal, however, seemed more at ease - although doubtlessly he kept a small firearm up his sleeve. Whoever these aliens were, it was unlikely they could stand up to Tahal in a firefight.

“Kasa a nur’daima zhu nii!” Azhaurai called out in Common Azdgari, a language spoken by all Azdgari but likely unfamiliar to these aliens. Have I made the right decision? Talking to these aliens is going to be... nigh on impossible to manage. Killing them would be so much easier...

    • OOC: It looks like RMA and I are engaging in some kind of bizarre arms race, since I can't put anything real together right now either. Upgraded ships posted in the OOC topic.

      ===============

(edit)I'm not in any position to do good character writing right now, but the summary is that Rogo wants to investigate the Ji Nebula in hopes of finding a way around Miranu territory. To that end he is having Zern develop better sensor technology so that scouts don't get lost in the nebula forever. As well, better missile and comms-jamming technology is being looked into.

Ship construction is being changed, as well. Production of North Tip Cruisers is being ceased in favor of more Aradas. Instead of constructing one NT Cruiser and 6 Aradas per day, I will not construct 0 Cruisers and 10 Aradas per day, along with normal Lazira and Fighter construction. (this starts tomorrow.)

Rago also wants higher ship production. Therefore, asteroid shipyards are being planned.(/edit)

    • Dogover

As the United Earth fleet fought desperately to escape the system, many of their vessels resorted to ramming other Voinian ships, although most of them were destroyed before they could actually impact. The humans were fighting desperately for survival, and the Voinians were doing their best to trap them, but soon human vessels began to punch through the Voinian lines.

Voinian vessels attempted to plug the holes, but the UE ships were faster, and about a third of the fleet managed to escape, badly damaged, into the Eltor system. Daethul, on the bridge of the Abaddon , clenched his fists and growled as he watched the opposing ships jump away. Most of the UE fleet, however, was unable to escape or destroyed in the process.

As the battle began to die down, the last of the UE ships being blown to pieces, Daethul pondered his next move. His border was open to attack, and if he followed the UE into Eltor, he would have to leave behind ships to head back and guard Avann and Vorik. This would weaken his force considerably. He couldn't afford it, especially if Fighters were dispatched from Sol to help guard what was left of the UE fleet.

The Voinian warfleet moved back, approaching Pax outpost, the debris of the once mighty United Earth grand armada floating by them. Deciding not to let the station fall into enemy hands, the Armageddon warfleet opened fire and destroyed the station, after letting those few neutral individuals who remained peaceably escape, and finally departed the system, returning to their outposts...

      ------

Following the victory at Dogover, the Voinian fleet was redistributed across the Voinian frontier. As well, many of the ships were sent to help guard the Voinian slave populations in systems like Dyram, Durala, Gualon, and Gamur. Those ships which were left over were dispatched to Romit to aid in reinforcing the northern border.

The Voinians were being beaten badly in the north, but they had also inflicted heavy losses to the Emalgha as well, and now their rockets were almost twice as powerful as before, and with the latest speed upgrade, they could outdistance the rockets of their Emalgha counterparts. As well, two more rocket upgrades were in the works that would make the Voinians even more powerful than before. One in particular that would help was an upgrade to the rockets themselves to lighten them up without the loss of speed, range, or damage. This would allow Voinian vessels to carry twice the ammunition they had before.

      ------

      Krraali

The Voinians, however, were not caught completely off guard by the sudden charge of freighters against them. Colonel Hakona was no fool, and as the Emalgha fleet began to retreat and the freighters charged directly into him, he ordered the fleet to concentrate all of their weapons against the ships charging them. The most damaged ships met the charge head on, but all of the cruisers and many of the other ships quickly pulled back to avoid any sort of large explosion, while fighters shot from a distance with their rockets. Many of the small, weak freighters were destroyed before they had a chance to get very close at all.

When the freighters did explode, it did destroy many Voinian vessels, but not nearly as many as the Emalghans thought they had destroyed because of the quick actions of the Voinian commander. As soon as the fireball had cleared, the Voinians quickly pulled back to the station to rearm and repair their damaged vessels, hoping that reinforcements would soon arrive. However, after the battle was over, Colonel Hakona received a message from Niot requesting reinforcements be sent to help guard Fridion. Immediately, the remaining 30 Interceptors and 130 Heavy Fighters were dispatched to the Fridion system.... Hakona hoped it would be enough.

      Voinian Cerberus Warfleet
      65 Cruisers (8 destroyed)
      95 Frigates (39 destroyed)
      130 Heavy Fighters (50 destroyed)
      30 Interceptors (45 destroyed)
      230 Heavy Fighters (62 destroyed)

      Emalgha Fleet (retreated)
      33 Fighters
      27 Warships
      14 Attack Drones
      0 Explosive Drones
      7 Rocket Drones
      7 Freighters

      ------

      Niot

The arrogant captains of the warships had obviously forgotten that Voinian Cruisers still had rockets, which they used to great effect, destroying many badly damaged freighters. The fighter wings, meanwhile, quickly darted back to the protection of their motherships. Any drone foolish enough to follow them was quickly shot down. After being rearmed in the Cruiser's fighter bays, the fighters launched themselves back at the enemy, shooting down most of the remaining drones with their accurate neutron weaponry. The fighters then began concentrating on the Emalgha fighters, destroying many of them as well with their heavy armaments.

As the battle continued, the last few Interceptors restocked themselves with rockets, then each one picked a warship and crashed into it. The resulting explosion was devastating, taking down over a dozen warships.

The remaining frigates did what they could, taking down several more frigates before ramming themselves into an enemy ship before they themselves exploded. The Cruisers were now badly outnumbered by the Emalgha.

Finally, Major Hunok was forced to give the order. "Retreat immediately to Fridion. We will make our final stand there. Rig the major facilities on the base to explode, and then retreat immediately."

While the cruisers and remaining fighters held off the Emalgha, the base was quickly evacuated, with the fuel-making factories destroyed before the departure, as well as with any sensitive information that needed to be kept from the Emalgha. As soon as the supply ships had departed, the Voinian fleet, which was already outside the gravity well of the planet, jumped away for the Fridion system, although two damaged Cruisers were destroyed before they could manage to actually make the jump.

      Voinian Elysium Warfleet (retreated)
      30 Cruisers (10 destroyed)
      0 Frigates (6 destroyed)
      25 Heavy Fighters (27 destroyed)
      0 Interceptors (21 destroyed)
50 Heavy Fighters (launched) (42 destroyed)

      160 Warships (33 destroyed)
      0 Attack Drones (16 destroyed)
      0 Rocket Drones (6 destroyed)
      8 Freighters (0 destroyed)

      ------

      Fridion

In the Fridion system, three days after the Voinians had evacuated Niot, the Elysium Warfleet arrived. At about the same time, the reinforcements from Krraali also arrived. The fleet was quickly rearmed and repaired, although much of the work was somewhat haphazard, as Hunok didn't want to get caught unprepared in case the Emalgha followed him through.

    • Zachit

High Commander Orazeno gazed down on the tactical display below him in the Zachit Command Centre. The fleet assembled in orbit of Zachit station was large, and newly fitted with the Miranu and Zachit developments. It was time for battle. As one, the icons representing the Zachit fleet vanished into hyperspace, it heading for its destination.

      ==========

      Hrekka

The Zachit fleet had travelled for a week to its target, and it finally exitted hyperspace. It had travelled the whole journey under emissions control, ECM outfits hiding the true nature of the fleet.

As the fleet exitted hyperspace, all the renagades saw was a massive area of interference and sensor deadzones. The contacts that could be made reported only Aradas, nothing else.

The distortion moving faster than the top speed of the old Zachit fighter, it closed within moments to the Renegade station, and then it fired, a mass of missiles targetting the Renegade Capital Ships. 2640 missiles shot to their targets at a rate faster than any pursuit missile had seen before. And 1.5 seconds later the volley repeated itself, the targets changed to the lighter ships, expanding clouds of debris being all that remained of the enemies capital ships.

OOC:Yes, overkill. I just want to get it over with really, and I still can't work myself up to grand posts.

    • Kelmaon

"Dammit!" Pael assumed the ships now pointing weapons at him weren't very friendly. At that very moment, Swain walked out of the tunnel and stopped dead. Pael turned a bit to see three aliens walking towards them.

It wasn't that they were hideous. The white one in front did look a little strange, but the other two looked like perfectly normal... aliens. The one in the armor was slightly too tall for Paels taste, and the one in the green robe looked like his arm was in pain. Who could tell?

No, they looked okay. It was just the odor. Female Emalgha have more sensative noses than males, which must have been the only reason Swain smelled them first, because the scent was absolutely nauseating. The front one spoke.

"Kasa a nur’daima zhu nii!" Pael turned to Swain, who shrugged, and spoke in Voinian.

"You don't really expect them to be able to understand us, do you?" Something dawned on Pael.

"We must be in another part of our own galaxy. I've just remembered, the sky, it looked slightly familiar. These must be the Northern aliens! I've seen those kinds of ships in the reports before. Admitted, they weren't that color, but I've seen the type." Swain nodded, everything making perfect sense to her. Pael turned to the aliens and spoke in the Voinian-ish dialect most Emalgha used today.

"Kraz prex cripondns?" The alien shook his head and said something back. He spoke in Old Emalghan.

"Nwee pquae nafada nichtont?" Again, the alien shook his head. This time, he looked a little more annoyed.

Ah, of course. There were two steps you always went through with people that didn't speak your language. You could either point to some food, say food, and eat it, or...

Pael pointed to himself. "Pael." He pointed to Swain. "Swain." He pointed to himself again, and repeated. He then pointed to the alien, waiting. The alien thought for a moment, then nodded. He indicated to himself.

"Azhaurai." Pael beamed. Azhaurai pointed to the tall alien on the left. "Tahal." He then pointed to the alien on his right. "Kohati."

Azhaurai waited a moment, then bend over and touched the soil.

"Kelmaon." Pael turned to Swain, mouth agape.

"This isn't Kelmaon. This isn't the past. The stars are all wrong for the location, but right for the time."

"Maybe he's mistaken." Pael drew a large cirlce in the dirt, then drew a small circle inside. He pointed to that circle and Kelmaon's star burning brightly overhead, and spoke "Star." He then drew a smaller circle inside the system circle, and said "Kelmaon?"

The aliens talk for a moment amoung themselves. The small, right one... Kohati, seemed to be annoyed, while the front, scary looking one... Azhaurai, silenced him and turned back to Pael. He pulls back his left sleeve, revealing that his lower arm is surrounded by some sort of device, and after pressing several keys on it, a hologram of the regional galactic map, with hyperlinks, appears. He points to one point on it and repeats "Kelmaon". He pressed another button, which zoomed in on what appeared to be the planet they were on.

Pael held up his hands, and slowly moved them together. He closed his eyes and shook his head, then moved his hands appart and nodded. He then pointed to the device, and pinched two fingers on his other hand. He slowly opened the fingers, and nodded.

Azhaurai shakes his head, turns it off and lowers his hand, letting his sleeve cover it again. He says something in Azdgari... then opens his robe slightly and pulls out a weapon, apparently not holding it to kill. He cocks his head. Pael automatically stepped back.

      "Oh s###."

      "I don't think he'll shoot, Pael."

"Well, if you're so smart, tell him to put the ######ing thing down." Pael did not enjoy guns.

There was an annoyed yell from the tunnel. Thornon came storming out, holding a simple rock welder.

"What the hell is that horrible sme- Who the hell.." Thornon looked at his hand, and immediately dropped the welder. Pael spoke cautiously and pointed to Thornon.

"Thornon." He pointed to all three of them. "Emalghan." Swain walked up and pointed slowly to the gun. She shook her head, and spoke calmly, "No."

Azhaurai returns the gun to somewhere inside his cloak, and makes the rectangle Pael made before, and expands it, shaking his head. He repeats "No" in Emalghan. Pael nods, and turns to the other Emalghans.

"Well, this is a start. I guess he won't show us the rest of the map, then." Swain nodded.

"Let's go show him the Construct." Pael pointed to the tunnel to the Construct, and started walking. Azhaurai said something loud and sharp in an alien language behind them. Pael turned, motioned for the aliens to follow, then resumed walking. Azhaurai says two more words sharply, and hadn't budged an inch. He pointed to Swain and crooked a finger. He then pointed to Tahal. Swain looked at Pael.

"I think I should stay here with... Tahal." She walked to Tahal and sat down. Tahal sat as well. Pael looked at Azhaurai, who seemed satisfied. The two aliens and two Emalghans began to walk down into the tunnel.

      ----------
      Niot
Mineaux had forseen exactly what was going to happen. It was obvious the Voinians would retreat; only a matter of time. That's why he had saved a good 30% of the fleets missiles. With a sudden barage, just as the Voinians were about to jump into hyperspace, hundreds upon hundreds of missiles decorated their ships in fire. Aiming at the most damaged ships, Cruiser after Cruiser fell, some debris hitting other Cruisers. They them jumped, leaving the system with the victorious Emalgha and a bunch of wreckage.

Due to the face that there are in fact no Drones left, the Freighters will be filled with any salvagable parts, the planet quickly searched, then the seemingly only base on the planet completely destroyed. The fleet then retreats back to Emalghion.

      Final Fleet Losses:
      Emalghans:
      90 Fighters
      160 Warships
      8 Freighters

      Voinians:
      20 Cruisers (10 destroyed)
      25 Heavy Fighters
      50 Heavy Fighters (launched)

      ----------
      Emalghion
All ships have been called to Emalgha, making the fleet there thus:
      175 Fighters
      215 Warships
      74 Attack Drones
      26 Explosive Drones
      33 Rocket Drones
      15 Freighters
      60 Defense platforms

All ships will now be refitted with new engines. All Warships, Freighters, and Defense platforms will now be outfitted with UE-Emalgha Railguns. Warships and Defense platforms will have 2 each, and Freighters will have 1 each, replacing a turret. Defense platforms will be moved farther back, but close enough to take advantage of the powerful new Railgun.

    • Igadzra Central Command

"What is it, sir?" the young lieutenant asked X'el, who grinned slightly.

"It's the one ship that'll make the Igazra the second most powerful warship in the galaxy," he said simply, chuckling. Before him was a massive schematic of the proposed Izagara design. It was technically designated a Supercruiser, and it was massive. Over twice the size of an Igazra, the Supercruiser would be the pride of the Igadzra fleet, once it was finished. It still had many weeks of testing and research and development before the proposal became an actual vessel.

Asai approached the table, nodding as he surveyed the plan. "Quite impressive," he commented.

"Where is my fleet report?" X'el asked, not taking his eyes off the design to look over at Asai.

"I'm working on them," Asai replied indignantly.

"Get them to me. Now," X'el commanded, Asai's eyes widening as he did. The young executor stormed off, and the nearby lieutenant looked over at X'el.

"Sir, I do have a report from the research and development team."

      "Oh?" X'el asked.

"Yes, executor. They say they've completed designs for the new Point-Defense-System Battery, as well as the Halcyon Torpedo. They can now be outfitted on all vessels. They're also beginning work on a redesign of the shield grids for Igadzra vessels, separating the single shield grid into three different grids, each with their own generators, and capable of independent regeneration."

X'el nodded. "Very good. Get to work on upgrading our weaponry immediately. Make sure Ujo has his ships outfitted with them before departing."

      ------

      Mordus

With the Norhis Defense Force having returned to their home system, Executor Ujo was now left with 40 Igazras and their escort Igaras. Normally Ujo might have gone at the Azdgari with a larger force, but he anticipated little resistance to their arrival. Apert had been little trouble in the recent years, and Igadzra Intelligence believed that it was guarded by a token garrison at best.

Finally standing up straight from his command chair on the bridge of the Premonition. "Report on status of our upgrades to the fleet?" he inquired.

"All ships are returning to their formations presently," Templar Hhazou reported.

"Good. We can give the scientists back in Igadzra some test data to look over. Helm, lay in a course for the Novish system. Hhazou, relay orders to the fleet. Inform us when ready."

A few moments later as the fleet moved into formation, Hhazou reported that they were ready to execute the jump. Seconds later, in a series of bright flashes, the fleet disappeared into hyperspace...

      ------

As the fleet made its way towards the Apert system, they encountered two small groups of Azdgari patrols. One in Novish, and the other in DSN-9041. Both times, although Igaras moved to pursue the vessels, the swift fighters had exited the system before they could be caught and destroyed. The fleet finally made their jump into Apert...

      ------

      Apert

As the Premonition cruised through hyperspace, only a minute or two away from Apert, Ujo gave out orders. "Upon entering the system, rapidly move into a defensive spherical formation. Igaras, stick close to your Igazras, or you'll get picked off. Stay together as a cohesive formation, and target any incoming Azdaras with your Graviton and Particle Beams."

      "Sir, exiting hyperspace now..."

"Shields to full," Ujo ordered, bracing for the rapid deceleration. Moments later, the Igadzra fleet of 40 Igazras and 120 Igaras jumped into the Apert system and readied themselves for battle...

    • "Two days, two laziras...still too slow for my tastes." muttered Iagraz

"The shipwrites here are too new to have any experience at building these ships Iagraz, we need to be patient--they'll pick up speed." Greg reasoned cooly

"Perhaps," Iagraz said as if unintrested "I wish Kjole and Razel would come out, it's getting boring without them..."

As if answering a prayer the doors of the toolshed harboring Kjole and Razel blew open with explosive force

"What the?!" They yelled in unison

"I've found it! I've found it!" Kjole cried

      "FOUND WHAT?!" Iagraz damanded

A bemused Razel was the one to reply "I'm not shure how, but he's managed to create a 100% conductivity phazed conduit from hyperquartz crystal. Shure alligned phazed-beam twynus crystals increase the power flow expodentially, but this is a breakthrough--the energy-storage applications presented by this are immense, of course we'll have to find a cheap source of hyperquarts crystal first..."

"I'll contact my superiors" Iagraz interjected, somewhat more enthusiastic, "I could get cookies!"

UE blaze fire rained down upon the planet’s surface, killing those few who hadn’t been pressed into service on the ships mostly women and children. Within a few minutes, nobody on the surface was left alive.

Above the planet, a few Renegade ships remained.

“We’ve got to help them!” shouted a desperate Krait pilot, who charged the UE formation and was shredded without getting off a single shot.

The Renegade ships made for the edge of the system. A few sparse threads of radio communication still sounded:

“Where are we going?” It was one of the four surviving Helian captains.

“Anyone here got friends on Freeport?”

“If a 25,000-credit bounty on my head counts as a friend, then yes.

      “Anyone else?”

“Oh God, look at those energy readings from the surface.”

      “Genocidal bastards ”

“Does anyone here know anyone on Freeport, or have a crewmember who does? Come on people, someone here must have made connections before this d***ed split over the latest Turncoat model. Somebody, anybody ”

“The energy readings I’ve never seen radiation levels like that before ”

“F***. I though this was just another raid I left my dog at home ”

“We have to get out of here! The UE are going to be coming after us!” The ship transmitting this message, a Krait, did not wait to hear the replies to its message, but simply jumped north; the other Kraits and the Helians followed it. The final Turncoat, suddenly alone, broadcast a message of surrender, lowering its shields and disarming its weapons.

“I give up! You can come and take over my ship, with information about the other Augorkian survivors, just don’t kill me, please!”

The renegade refugees dropped out of warp the next day, one jump north of Gorky, and decided that they would raid Hatuli for fuel and needler ammo. With only needle Kraits and Helians, they took a third of the time in hyperspace as would a capital ship fleet; but their numbers and their armament meant that they could raid effectively. Short of flooding Independent space with warships, a move which the Voinian front would make completely untenable, these survivors would continue to raid for some time to come.

One Krait, unnoticed by the others, slipped off to the east instead. Its pilot was Freeport secret agent Ali D’kesh. He had made detailed recordings of the battle, which the Captains would no doubt want to know all about

    • The Faithful, Chapter Four
Command Nexus, High Citadel of the Paladin Order, Tumni

General Samael Deran stood with four other high ranking Paladins around a strategic map of the Crescent. News had reached them by courier that the new Outpost Sekarim in Stror had survived an attack from the Igadzra. By the mercy of Zid the outnumbered Zidagar defenders had managed to hold the system long enough to be reinforced. Despite taking heavy losses, the Igadzra had been driven off, but the fact that it had been so close was a wake-up call to the Zidagar commanders.

Standing with him were the highest ranking Paladins that formed the military central command. Several hours had been spent debating what direction the strategy for insuring the security of the Holy worlds should take. For now the order of the day was reinforcing the front line outposts. Whatever forces the Zidagar shipyards were able to produce for the time being would have to be sent to shore up their defenses to prevent the Azdgari and Igadzra from catching any other Zidagar systems unprepared.

As they finalized these plans, the highest ranking Paladin below General Deran started to present the latest military projects that were under development. He was a small middle aged Zidagar who had spent his life in the Navy. With a few keystrokes he brought up a series of images and readouts for display. "Brothers, this is the final report on our new plasma weapons and their refits. As you can see, the new weapons give our forces a significant upgrade in capability and power."

Zidagar Plasma Munitions & Overhaul Report

      Plasma Rocket
      Damage: 215/110
      Speed: 700
      Count: 80
      Reload: 100
      Launcher Mass: 20 tons
      Ammo mass: 2 tons

      Class I Plasma Missile (Javelin)
      Damage: 100/60
      Speed: 1000
Range: Equals to about 80% of an SAE
      Reload: 75
      Launcher Mass: 15 tons
      Ammo Mass: 1 ton.

      Class II Plasma Missile (Dart)
      Damage: 30/20
      Speed: 1500
      Range: About 150% Needle range
      Reload: 30
Launcher Mass: 14 tons (25 Ammunition included.)

      New Zidara Configuration
      2x Phase Turret
2x Phased Beamer (Powered with Stand-Alone Generators)
      1x Plasma Rocket Launcher - 5 Ammo
      1x Class I Missile Launcher - 20 Ammo
1x Class II Missile Pod - 25 Ammo

New Zidagar Fighter Configuration -- Class I (Independant)
      3x Swivel Phase Cannon
1x Phased Beamer (Powered with Stand-Alone Generator)
      1x Class I Missile Launcher - 5 Ammo

New Zidagar Fighter Configuration -- Class II (Carried)
      2x Swivel Phase Cannon
1x Phased Beamer (Powered with Stand-Alone Generator)
2x Class II Missile Pods - 50 Ammo

There were murmurs of satisfaction from all of the assembled Paladins, and the Zidagar Admiral continued with his presentation. "As you can see these weapons give our Navy options in combat that we've never had before. Class I Missiles are quick and devastating long range weapon, and the Class II pods will give our fighters the firepower to be extremely effective in dogfights against Azdaras and enemy Aradas. Also, with the implementation of Stand-Alone Generators our ships need no longer hold back the power of their Phased Beamers."

Another of the Paladins present, this one younger and still in his prime, gestured to gain the attention of the others. "All of this is very good Admiral Zama, but couldn't we better exploit this technology with a ship specifically designed to utilize it fully? Our fighters aren't designed to be full fledged gunships."

Smiling, Admiral Zama acknowledged his younger collegue. "Your point is well taken, Vice Admiral, and it brings me to the next part of my presentation. As some of you know we had initially considered pursuing a carrier program, but we soon came to realize that which my brother just mentioned. There is a better platform for a gunship than our fighters. For many years we've resisted putting any resources into developing our own variant of the Arada, in part because of the heathen strands' reliance on them. With the development of plasma munitions there is finally a role within our navy in which the Arada can excel. With the obvious shielding and performance upgrades the Arada will be the perfect vessel to make use of our new firepower. We're finished with the design modifications needed, and are in the process of converting some of our Zidara shipyards in Vlagos to begin production of these new ships. We're also expanding and building new facilities in order to get enough of these ships to the battle lines."

From the facial expressions of the assembled commanders General Deran could tell that these new tools of war met with unanimous approval. An ache running up his spine told him that the hours that they had spent already were probably enough, and he signaled that it was time to adjourn.

"Brothers, I think that we've spent quite enough time standing around this display, and I have a meeting with the First Consul to attend. I'll forward any new developments to your flagships. Until then, walk in the light of Zid."

Chapel of the First Consul, High Temple of Zid, Zidagar

"Ah, welcome General, it's been too long since you've been to see me old friend. Come, join us."

Samael watched as the First Consul stood and beckoned him to enter the chamber and sit down. Such endearments as "old friend" never failed to make him uncomfortable around the Priest, but he didn't hesitate to stride through the entrance and take up a seat across from Asrin Nemisa. There were two others in the room, the first was Urian Treval, the Elder Paladin, and the Order's representative in government. The second was a senior Consul from Saffera who Samael hadn't met.

After the four of them had composed themselves Nemisa was the first to speak.

"So, why is it that you have come to me?"

The Consul from Saffera was the first to say anything, which was a relief to Samael, because he was just as curious about his purpose as Asrin was. Urian had asked him to attend, so he'd come, but he had no idea why. Looking over at the diminutive Safferan, he listened to him start talking.

"First Consul, many of the members of the Governing Assembly are deeply troubled by the course of action that has been taken towards the Miranu. This trade embargo is having an extremely detrimental effect on our export economy, and the hostility expressed by many of the Clergy is starting a frenzy of anti-Miranu demonstrations. If we continue down this path we will only isolate ourselves, sending the rest of the galaxy into the arms of our enemies."

Asrin Nemisa raised his hand for silence.

"I hear you my child" He said smiling, "Believe me, I take the actions that I have only with the gravest consideration. You are right, all things have not been proven, and I am devoting every resource to uncovering the truth of Miranu involvement in the rebellion at Plogok and the recent attack on Stror, I will not rest until this mess is exposed to the light."

Urian was shaking his head violently by the time the first consul was finished speaking. Samael himself was floored by what he'd said. The nonsense about Miranu inciting the Plogok rebellion was common knowledge by now, as it had been spewed over the news services endlessly. But Miranu involvement in Stror? Impossible. It was nothing more than another cowardly Igadzra attack. They always attacked wherever they thought the Zidagar were too few to stand against their weakness. Samael kept these thoughts to himself, but it mattered little Urian was making them vehemently for both of them.

"Miranu involvement with Stror? What is this foolishness? Are the Miranu now some shadowy evil driving every threat? They'll be kidnapping livestock and hiding under children's beds next."

Asrin's face darkened for an almost imperceptible moment before he marshaled his features into the patient look of a father explaining unfortunate events to a child. He spoke in a level, even saddened tone as he explained. "I too was skeptical when the information was first brought to my attention. And there is still much to be determined on whether what I've seen is accurate. Look for yourselves though."

Reaching into a pocket of his bulky official robes Asrin brought out a small datacard and slid it into the holographic projector on the table in front of them. He flipped the activation switch and an image of the new colony moon of New Zidagar appeared before them. The feed zoomed in on a small ship leaving orbit.

"These sensor readings were taken in Stror about a week and a half before the battle, a few hours after the border was closed, but before the deadline for Miranu ships to vacate."

As they watched the recording the ship, now easily identified as a Miranu Courier, made it's final arc away from the moon's orbit and accelerated towards the edge of the system. When it reached the edge of the gravity well it made a hyperjump towards the Sirabor system. For a moment the projection was blank, then it resolved into an image of another star system. Samael recognized it as the Ersadt system, and the Courier was now on approach to Outpost Vargien.

Urian was speaking again. "Is this it? The Courier was in both systems before the attack too place? A coincidence."

The First Consul nodded. Most would think so, but the sensor logs indicate that the Courier transmitted a rather large data packet to the station. We have reason to believe that this Courier, chartered by the MTC, relayed information regarding out fleet deployment and strength to the Igadzra. If this proves to be the case..."

It was the Safferan Consul that spoke up this time. His face was flushed with emotion, and it was obvious that he was struggling to control himself.

"First Consul, you know that we all respect your caution in this matter, but we have always counted on your foresight as well. If it is true that the MTC has been aiding the Igadzra then it does indeed have grave implications. But so far all we have is conjecture... and by closing ourselves so completely to the Miranu people as a whole we only insure that the MTC will gain even more influence. It is well known that they are corrupt enough to do such things, but the answer to keeping them in check is in helping the Miranu people to reign them in."

Somewhat more subdued, but just as passionate was Urian's response. "I must agree with my colleague most strongly. I fear that all of these cloak and dagger hints of Miranu treachery are the product of some greater plot against us. It would not surprise me to find Renegades or the Igadzra behind this. We must be ever vigilant that we are not being manipulated to strike out against those who could be our closest allies."

"I am glad that you have come." Asrin said as he stood up. "Your words echo thoughts that
have been very much in my own mind. Rest assured that I will take your warnings into consideration."

Standing as well, the Safferan Consul looked at first Samael and Urian, then towards the First Consul. "Thank you for hearing us. Does this mean that you will consider lifting the embargoes?"

With a friendly smile Asrin put his hand on the small Consul's shoulder. "I will look into what options we have. There is much to be decided."

Not sure what to make of the priest's answer, the Consul allowed himself to be ushered to the door. He and Urian made their final thanks to the First Consul, then exited the chamber. Samael was about to do the same when Asrin took hold of his arm.

"General, you had little to say, I wonder what your thoughts are on this matter."

Looking into the ever open and understanding look in Asrin's eyes Samael was once again taken by the gut feeling of unease that always accompanied his conversations with the First Consul. He took in a slight breath, and being deliberatly ambiguous, replied.

"The whole business like a reconnaissance patrol in the middle of a nebula, we must be very careful where we tread."

Nemisa sighed and nodded. "That we must. Well, have a good day General."

Samael bowed and left the First Consul alone in his chamber, then walked towards the Temple's Great Hall. As he strode through the center of the immense structure Urian came alongside him and they walked together. Samael regarded the Elder Paladin with a sidelong glance.

"Well," he said, "that was most unsettling."

Urian snorted and then pulled him towards an exit and out into the open air of Zidagar. "I can hardly imagine what's happening in the minds of those accursed Priests. They're all running and screaming like a mad rabble, and I sense the hand of the Inquisitors in all of this. The Miranu have never had the taste for this kind of low maneuvering. Aye, they'll do most anything for a profit, but how do they profit from an attack on a Zidagar colony? Or a rebellion? Most of all... from losing trade with us, this has to be costing them billions of credits."

Samael nodded. "I agree, and the First Consul's manner didn't sit well with me at all. It all seemed to smooth and routine, and yet we're talking of something that should rock any politician to the core. As for the rebellion, there's only one source that can verify the truth of the matter. I think that all of this other nonsense rests on that."

"Ah, this Prisoner I've heard so much about, has he said anything since Pozdag-3?"

    • OOC: I call all Igadzra space into strict-time.

      (- Novish -)

As forty Igazras and one hundred and twenty Igadzra Aradas appeared in Novish, a lone Azdara patrol several lightminutes away quickly scanned the ships, keeping its already vast distance, confident that despite their numbers, they could not catch the Azdara.

The ship’s pilot smiled faintly. The bear has finally taken the bait. Outpost Rai is under attack. Communiques were immediately sent off following a design already set up. A message to Outpost Rai, informing them of the situation, and to the patrollers in DSN-9041. A message straight to the highest representatives in the Assembly and the four most prominent Azdgari in the Council of War - Hyaishi, Yain, Sai-Varitair and Hyaanl. Other messages were sent too, to warbands recently set up.

The pilot never thought the attack would come so soon after Hyaishi had set things in order. This was going to be very interesting - shame he wouldn’t be there to participate in what was coming...

      ----------------

(- Chak, four days later, two days before the Battle of Apert -)

A warning message appeared on the Zaarisha’s pilot display, and Hyaishi regarded it coolly. Dzotar in Novish had been passed by an Igadzra battlefleet - forty Igazra and one hundred and twenty Igadzra Aradas. Hyaishi quickly recalled the latest estimations of Igadzra numbers. Scan revealed that there appeared to be a standard defence complement of twenty Igazras and sixty Igadzra Aradas to each system, and Hyaishi believed this held for core systems as well, as it seemed only reasonable. It met with everything he knew about Igadzra behaviour. Scans of Mark had detected fifty Igazras, however... That was the only system defended heavily, and with good reason. Likely, there was more defences on Zidagar borders as well.

This left him to estimate there were approximately three hundred Igazras in total, give or take about fifty. Forty in one position wasn’t a major mistake on the Igadzra’s behalf, indicating that they had guessed Apert wasn’t defended heavily.

It’s too early, but perhaps this will work to our benefit, Hyaishi wondered. The new technologies were not outfitted on Azdgari ships, excluding the new hyperdrive, but that wouldn’t matter too much. Besides, it meant that when he finally retaliated properly, it would be even more difficult for the Igadzra to coordinate an effective defence.

Lives sacrificed for the common good, in the end.

Hyaishi quickly revealed the situation. In two days, the Igadzra battlefleet would reach Apert, but they would find nothing there. Not even Outpost Rai. One day after that, Notil would fall, by jump-strike. Unfortunately, Tollb’s forces wouldn’t be able to participate as, by the time they received the message, Chak’s would already be fighting.

“Diudir will be next,” Inys’ voice murmured from behind. He read my private message over my back... not surprising.

“Yes, it will. And for Diudir, we will exact a much more fitting price,” Hyaishi replied.

“What do you have in mind?”

Hyaishi turned then, to regard his protégč. “Only one thing. For this, it is all out. The Igadzra Scimitar.”

“You intend to cut out the bear’s heart, then? Inys inquired coolly.

“In a few weeks, once we are ready. For now, let us show the Igadzra we are not to be trifled with. There is no time to waste. Outpost Rai by now has already been dismantled.”

      ----------------

(- Apert, four days before the Battle of Apert -)

Not an hour before the message was received from the Novish patroller that an Igadzran battlefleet was enroute, Azdgari technicians began putting into practice the existing protocol for dismantling the station. It was laced with explosives in case they lost such warning, but the standard protocol was to dismantle the important parts of the station and ship them off on Freight Aradas, of which enough were stationed in Apert - and indeed, every Azdgari system, about sixty on average - to do the job.

It would take the better part of six hours, even practiced as they were, but by the time the Igadzran fleet received Apert, there would be no Azdgari base there. The Azdgari were to flee immediately to Diudir.

While not all of Outpost Rai could be dismantled and taken with them, everything of any worth of difficult to build would be taken, leaving only a tiny task to replace it. The parts of the outpost that could not be taken with them were to be sent into Apert itself. There would be residue, nothing to indicate to the Igadzra what had happened.

      ------------

(- DSN-9041, three days before the Battle of Apert -)

The two Azdaras patrolling ‘9041 had already been alerted of the bear’s fleet approaching, and hovered lightminutes away. As it entered, their pilots were relieved that things had proceeded exactly as predicted - forty Igazras, one hundred and twenty Igadzra Aradas. They did not leave the system, just as the patroller in Novish had not left. They had nothing to fear - these Igadzra could not catch them.

If all went to plan then, in another six hours, Outpost Rai’s defence fleet, and Freight Aradas hauling the dismantled outpost, would enter the system, en route to Diudir and then to Azdgari.

The two Azdaras would not be moving far, though. Except that once the Igadzra fleet returned, one would head back to Apert to continue patrolling that system. Might as well keep up a proper patrol. Hyaishi’s warband would be doing the rest.

      ----------------

(- Apert, the Battle of Apert -)

The Igadzra ships had entered the system, but to their surprise, there was nothing there. No Outpost Rai, no Azdgari ships on the defence. Nothing at all. What the hell had happened here?

Try as they might, there were no energy signatures, no residual signals. Nothing to tell them what had happened.

      ----------------

(- Mark, the day of the Battle of Apert -)

The formidable Igadzra fleet was caught offguard when five hundred and sixty five Azdaras, and one hundred and ninety Azdgari Aradas entered the system. They quickly took up defensive positions, but...

The Azdgari fleet entered hyperspace immediately, using their new hyperdrives to do so without giving the Igadzra any opportunity to attack. They were heading for Notil. And they would arrive there before any reinforcements could...

      ----------------

(- Notil, the day after the Battle of Apert, the day of the Battle of Notil -)

The Azdgari warband, under Hyaishi, entered Notil at maximum velocity and immediately took action. Amongst the fleet was Hyaishi in his Zaarisha , as well as Chyi-Azhar’s squadron, sans Azhaurai who was mysteriously away on other business. Zosen had recovered quickly and insisted on returning to action, and he now flew with his mentor, Ka-ruul, Isa and Runar.

Confident of the amount of time they had, Hyaishi had given very specific orders. The fleet was to begin on full defensive, and begin with an SAE draw strategy, observing the response of the far outnumbered Igadzran fleet (while spiralling, so not decelerating). Observations would be immediately taken and due to full defensive attitude, SAEs would not strike - Aradas would stay out of range to start, Azdaras staying just in SAE range but far too fast to be hit. The SAE draw would last until SAEs were no longer fired, as the Igadzra grew wise to the tactic... Almost certainly enough time to waste half of their ammunition, at least on their Aradas, as ammunitions were relatively low. However, when they finished the brief SAE draw (of likely about 20 seconds), the Azdgari fleet were to strike from the other side of the Igadzra fleet, away from the hyper-exit.

Azdaras were then to go in octa-squadrons of 48 Azdaras - eleven such groups - which would strike Igazras one at a time, annihilating them almost immediately. The remaining 37 Azdaras consisted of the superior Azdara pilots, as well as Chyi-Azhar’s elite squadron and the elite squadron under a talented young Azdgari called Ipvicus. These other Azdaras were to support the Aradas, which were performing similar attacks against the Igadzra Aradas - three Azdgari Aradas to each one Igadzra, with the exception of ten left over.

The battle would be fought cautiously, keeping at maximum ranges. The octa-squadrons would form spheres at maximum phase range to allow all 48 Azdaras to hit their target at once, dispatcing of Igazras in a matter of seconds.

Hyaishi had arranged everything to minimise Azdgari losses. It was clearly their victory, all that was left to be determined was a question of how many Azdgari would die this day.

There was one more proviso. The moment something went wrong, Hyaishi would personally communicate with every single ship in the fleet, to change the entire strategy at a second’s notice. His fleet were ready for this, expected it even. If things weren’t turning out right, they would waste no time at all dying. At the sign of anything unexpected, the entire strategy could change. The Igadzra fleet would be virtually passive... this battle was to be controlled by the far faster Azdgari, just as it always was.

      ----------------

      (- Chak -)

About the time Hyaishi’s warband struck Notil via a jump-strike through Mark, ships from Tollb moved to reinforce Chak’s defences, while ships from Molar moved to reinforce Tollb’s defences, which all moved to Emnin. If the Zidagar were to strike now, patrols would call Emnin’s defences back towards Molar again. Whoever might strike in this time, the Azdgari patrollers were still out, and there would be plenty of warning.

Also, six Azdaras were assigned to a stagger scan on Mark, every hour after Hyaishi's warband passed through, for six hours.

    • Hrekka

"EVACUATE! EVACUATE!" The siren blared all over North Tip Station. Hrekka had just been invaded by a massive Zachit fleet, and the Renegades did not have anywhere near the forces to fight them off. They had already lost all of the North Tip Cruisers in the system and a good number of Laziras. Now the task was merely to evacuate the fleet to Niwom before all of the ships were lost. The station commander's reasoning went something like this: Most of the Zachit's ships had been diverted for this raid. If the rest were waiting in Niwom or Dewe, it didn't matter where they ran to, as they were already dead. However, that would leave the entire Northeast section of Zacha space open for attack by The Rock. Therefore, the remainder of the ships were either guarding the home base in Zachit, or they were probably in Nadej. The commander didn't want to take the chance of attacking the Adzgari base in Raigar, so he was evacuating to Niwom and beyond in the hopes that they would be empty. The Renegade fleet backtracked, firing missiles at the Zachit ships while getting far enough away from the station to open a jump point to Niwom.

      DSN-2131

Completely unaware of the attack on Hrekka (a mayday had been sent out, but it would take almost four days to reach The Rock), a massive raid intended to crush the Zachit presence in the nearby systems once and for all was being planned. 113 Aradas and 580 North Tip Fighters lifted off from The Rock and jumped to the DSN-6116 system.

    • Apert
      Day 0

Executor Ujo blinked, looking around the system for several confused moments. He turned to Hhazou. "Scan the system. Anything?"

Hhazou shook his head. "Nothing... at all. Absolutely nothing. Not even traces of what might've happened."

Ujo blinked again, looking around the system again before letting out a low growl. "Lay in a course back for Mordus. Get us there as soon as you can."

The 4th Armada promptly exited the system, heading back to Mordus, but Ujo knew that for whatever the Azdgari had in mind, it was already too late...

The commander of the 1st Armada, Executor Lathe, faced a tough decision. He knew that the Azdgari fleet was no doubt going to ravage Notil. He couldn't help it, though. His ships were far too slow to catch up to them. However, now Igadzra itself was under threat. As such, Lathe, reluctantly, dispatched 60 Igaras to follow the Azdgari into Notil. If they made a move for Igadzra, the Igaras would follow them into Igadzra. If they made a move back to mark, the Igaras would return.

      Day 1

Shortly after the Azdgari entered the system, the 60 Igaras followed them, although making a note of entering a somewhat far distance away from the Azdgari. The Igaras then halted, prepared to make an instantaneous jump away into Igadzra if they came under attack. For now, however, they watched and waited to see what the Azdgari fleet would do...

    • (- Notil, Day 1 -)

Hyaishi had considered that he may be followed by forces from Mark, but he had not expected no forces defending Notil at all. He quickly pondered the situation, knowing he only had a few seconds.

Yain is Commander of one of the warbands in Emnin, and has the final decision on what happens. By know - or in a few minutes- he would know of this fleet movement due to the stagger scans that had passed through Mark and headed straight back to join Yain's forces. He will move to Mark, and expect me to take them out. Then that is what I will do, and reinforce him when I can.

He pressed a key which immediately opened channels with every ship in the entire warband.

"We attack," he said simply. After a moment of inactivity, he realised what he'd forgotten. "Pattern seven. Take them out quickly."

The Azdgari fleet leapt into action, hundreds of ships racing towards the Igadzra fleet. However, the distance was significant, and the Aradas immediately entered hyperspace for Igadzra. To the dismay of many Azdgari pilots, the Igadzra were able to jump out to Igadzra without having taken anything more than a few stray phase bursts... No significant damage at all.

Clever, Hyaishi mused. But this makes it easier.

"Khalin, Tryan, Ido, Chanus. Take your Arada squadrons down to the planet. Take out anything military. As few civilian casualties as possible. Just give the lesser ones a token of our appreciation for this gift," Hyaishi instructed quickly, and twenty Aradas quickly separated from the fleet, immediately flying off to the planet's surface. Those four had the best strike teams he knew, so of anyone, they'd have the best chance for surgical strikes on the planet's surface. But it probably wasn't necessary.

"Everyone else... To Mark." He smiled even as he said this. The Igadzra had made this almost too easy. Three warbands hitting Mark after it had lost some of its defences... It would be a good battle. It was an Azdgari victory, but the bears would fight well. They would not lose their most important frontier easily.

Hyaishi's warband entered hyperspace immediately, racing back to Mark. Yain will have made the same decision. He is coming.

If his faith was not well placed, this was going to be a slaughter. One warband could not defeat Mark's defences.

      ----------------

Khalin immediately assumed command of the operation, as his name had been called first. The twenty Aradas went at Notil with surgical precision, taking out vital constructs, but avoiding reactors due to Hyaishi's request that civilian casualties be kept low. Military facilities fell quickly, and various centres of industry. Within a few hours, Notil was simply a residence, and the people were terrified. The Azdgari went no further, however, not even raiding the planet properly. Once they were done, after about six hours, they headed back to Mark. They all wanted to be involved in a real fight.

      ----------------

      (- Mark, Day 2 -)

Thankfully, Yain had indeed moved to attack Mark. The Igadzra defenders were suddenly struck by a frightening sight - two Azdgari fleets, both appearing from either direction.

In total, there were one thousand seven hundred and fifty nine Azdaras, and four hundred and forty seven Azdgari Aradas.

Hyaishi immediately called for the warbands to adopt the same strategy that had been prepared to fight Notil's defences. They faced a larger force now - but had three times the numbers. He knew this battle would not be without cost, but it was worth fighting.

    • (OOC:The NT area is now on strict time)
      Zachit

The Zachit fleet was now refitted, and High Commander Orazeno wondered how the attack at Hrekka was going. It would have just entered the system, and hopefully the battle was going well. He would never have authorised this attack just a few weeks ago, but with the Zidagar suddenly becoming unfriendly and not participating in defence of the area with the Zachit, the situation had become too risky. So a gamble had been taken. He was sure it would pay off, but it was a gamble nonetheless.

      ==========

      Hrekka

The Zachit fleet flew on at the renegade ships fleeing the system, not ceasing their fire. The renegade ships couldn't escape, being considerably slower than the Zachit force which had already accelerated to top speed. The Renegade force didn't get to the safe point to attempt a hyperspace jump, but even if they had it would have been useless. The Zachit ships could enter hyperspace anywhere within a system now, making chase far much easier.

Swooping round the Zachit ships turned back to NT Station, training their weapons on it, Fighters flying off to check no renegade ships were hiding in the system. A simple message went out demanding the stations surrender and offering mercy to its remaining inhabitants if they did. Otherwise, only death would come.

    • Battle of Avann
The immense Voina Liberation Force entered the Avann system. The fleet was composed of multiple old fleets, such as the Grand Armada and the Saalia Defense Fleet. The Earth Force, having recently arrived from the Renegade border, proudly flew alongside the fleet as the Avann defenders scattered and prepared to intercept the new attackers. The United Earth ships flew into action. The fleet, travelling in a large line formation, fired off several salvoes of hunter missiles at the attackers, ripping many Voinian ships apart, despite the annoying point-defense systems that constantly unloaded on the incoming missiles. The Earth Force came under the most fire when the two fleets came within primary weapons range of one another, losing Admiral Rivers himself and several various fleet ships. The remains of the force merged with the Voina Liberation Force. The Voinians had a small advantage for several moments, but then the U.E. fleet began launching all of the unlaunched fighters onboard their Carriers. The reinforcements quickly ensured that the Voinians wouldn’t be coming home today. The only question was “How many ships will be lost in the victory?”

    • Peter's fleet had come into orbit of Iothe Prime, alongside a group of Hatuli militia.

He had informed the Iothe milita of their traitors, and they proceeded to hunt down as many as they could, putting the rest to flight.

Yeager had somehow attached an IFF tag to the traitors, and was congratulated for making their operation easier.

      "All units, commence Operation: Flashpoint."

As the traitors took flight, the fifteen ships of the Seydlitz 's fleet blasted forwards, as the Hatuli militamen went to their flanks.

One particular Helian was blasted by Yeager's Helian, as the descendant of the test/combat pilot lived up to his heritage.

    • Kelmaon

"I hope you've found something good Thornon, because the aliens aren't looking very amused. "

"Actually, I have. There's a lot of strange writing in the Construct's computers." Pael blinked.

"What makes you think this isn't something we already knew?!"

"Well, what makes it strange is, it's very similar to some ancient documents found on Emalghion. I only know a few words in Ancient Emalghion, but I can translate a few things. For instance, Swain and I were looking at what appeared to be a pilot light, which is actually why she was going up to get you when we met our friends here. Anyway, the pilot light keeps a tiny thread linked between this Construct and ours. I think it may be possible to send energy through it. Someone on Kelmaon should notice and unblock the other side. Of course, we won't know they've unblocked it, so we'll just have to keep trying. " They reached the entrance to the Construct, where the light from the access panel lit the room. Both on the computer screen and the walls, there was strange writing.

    • A lone Miranu courier jumped into the DSN-3544, from an otherwise uncharted hyperlink to the northwest. It was greeted by nearly one hundred Miranu freighters, and one hundred Miranu crescent fighters. During the exploration of the Ji Nebula, sporadic reports had come back from the explorers. Half a dozen new systems. One with an inhabitable planet - F-25. By all accounts from the two explorers on the Miranu Courier, it was one of the most beautiful worlds they'd ever seen. Full of lush plant life, completely unspoiled by pollution or waste. In light of the recent success in colonizing the DSN-3930 system, now renamed Kitan, decision had been made to colonize F-25 as well. The nebula provided many opportunities for research and stellar observation, and F-25 would make an excellent site.

The courier relayed the coordinates to the fleet, and together the Miranu ships, outfitted with Nebula Penetration Devices to brave the interference, jumped bravely off into the reaches of the nebula, ready to start the next Miranu colonization effort.

      ----------

The two men in dark trenchcoats waited once again in the back alleys of Mira's capital, but this time the scene was a bit different. As usual the two men were armed with phase pistols, but this time the taller of the two men had something extra - a flash grenade. No explosives, but when it went off, the resulting blast of light would be enough to disorient anyone unfortunate enough to be in sight of it.

As usual, the youngest of the three senators representing the planet of Blaga left the senate building, and began walking through a nearby park, on his way back to the metro station for his evening trip home. He knew nothing of the two men waiting in an alley just three blocks away.

"He's coming," whispered one of the trenchcoated men to the other. From their hiding place about a dozen meters back into the alley, they could clearly see the senator approaching, crossing the street from the park, getting ready to walk right past their position. The two men crouched down, hiding behind a pair of discarded metal crates. They remained silent for several seconds, and then, after a breif look at one another, the taller of the two nodded and lobbed the flash grenade out into the open, then quickly ducked behind the crate.

The senator caught the motion out of the corner of his eye - something small and shiny flew out of an alleyway just ahead of him and landed in the grass across the street. Instinctively, his gaze followed the object to its landing point... and that was the last thing he saw. An intense white light filled the street, momentarily blinding everyone within nearly half a block. The senator staggered forward, struggling to see. As he did, two bolts of yellow energy - phase pistol blasts, caught him square in the back of the neck. He lurched forward, and then slumped to the ground, dead.

"Excellent work," the taller conspirator whispered to the shorter one.

"I think we made our point. Any senator who values his life will think twice before double-crossing MTC interests again," the other replied, in an equally low voice. With that, the two figures turned and receded together into the darkness.
