And so I post the almighty EVO question:
Who's got the upper hand in the Strand War?
Also, the question's cousin:
Which Strand is better for the human player?

You can learn A LOT by Searching....

Sorry, I don't do Windows.
I know, I know, but the rows and columns of figures can only be interpreted so far. Sure, the Azagari are fast, the Igadzra powerful, and the Zidara average, but personal views on the matter just don't pop up on my browser.
By the way, does anybody know the relations between Miranu and Strands? Or is there none?

I don't think any specific strand has the upper hand, per se. You can always save your pilot just before starting any Strand mission, and play all three, separately, with your original pilot. If you join the Azdgari you get a chance to purchase an awesome little ship. But it makes the Ziddy's mad, and that put a major crimp in my trading between them and the Miranu! As for the Igadzra, I really don't see any strategic or financial benefit to join the Igadzra. If you want one of their ships, you can just capture one, but the other strands will attack you on sight.

Sorry, I don't do Windows.
I always preferred the Igadzra overall. The Igazra was by far my favourite ship to end up with - oh so much free space, especially after getting rid of the 140 odd tons taken up with SAE equipment! I would stock it up with Neutron Turrets - selling all the phase ones in Crescent space and then heading over to Paaren Station, taking on any Renegades along the way with only the Plasma Siphon, which is also my favourite secondary weapon (it saves 10 tons for fuel scoops, takes up no space / mass and is pretty effective, especially when you've got shields like that :).
I also liked the Zidagar - I thought their mission string was the best, but really what you get out of it is pretty minor compared to the other two. I tried very hard to like the Zidara, but without making small changes to its stats, it was very hard! Not being able to get three phase turrets plus the phased beam was quite sad, and the way that thing used up fuel made it pretty useless for the player. Also not being able to sell the Zidagar fighter bay to free up space left little room for other upgrades, and the Zidara never had anywhere near enough cargo space to make conversion an option :frown:.
I think I only played through the Azdgari mission string once all the way. The Azdara is not my style, which tends to consist of very close up primary fire or slightly further away (sometimes even monty python style) depending on who I was fighting and how much fun I thought it would be. I also felt like they almost had an unfair advantage, which attracted me to them less again ... less challenge I guess - sort of like railguns in Nova, which I find tend to just make battles more boring.
So I guess I would say it was as it was intended - in the hands of the AI, the three strands were pretty much even, but in the hands of the human player, any of them could be made the best :).
It depends. If you want to use fighters with quick shield recharge times then I would suggest the Azdgari. If you like the giant banana ship then go with the Igadzra. This way you can buy SAE's for the ship or get rid of the lauchers which is not possible when you capture the ship. If you like big ships like the UE Cruiser (any large ship but the Igazra) I suggest the Zidagar as the ability to not be hit by SAD and SAE is a big advantage for large ships. That pretty much sums up my point of view.
Cheers,
Jubee

The Azdgari. After I had captured the Enhanced Arada (with Phase Cannons and a Dispersal Rocket combined with Monty Python), I never used any other ships with the same pilot again. With the Exp. Shield Generator and the normal Shield Generator it's possible to fight against 5 Crescent Warships simultaneously without even trying to dodge any shots due to the insane shield regeneration rate.

Secondary weapons suck

Always the Zidagar. I think I did the other Strand sonce or twice, but it's gotten to the point where I actually feel guilty fighting against them. I just like everything about them, and they're on good terms with the Miranu, which is more than I can say for the other two.

Try the voinian heavy fighter with 4 shield enhancers, exp shield generator, shield generator, and dospect armor. This ship has the fastest recharge time in the game. I have compared it to the enhanced arada with the above upgrades before and it is superior.
The shield enhacers in this case are extremely important. Before you reply try the ship first.

I compared them both with the outfits you gave and the Enhanced Arada seems superior.

Assuming you could fit all of that on an Azdara, wouldn't it have the highest recharge rate? I mena it is already high, you could end up with shields that would recharge faster than Phase blasts would damage them.

The crazy little donkey rides again!!!
I think that the Zidagar are the best if you can find a ship with about 200 jumps of fuel for use with the Phased Disruption Beam. Aside from that, a Zidara with bronev plating is pretty damn strong, beams or no beams.
I honestly like the Azdgari equally. Their Azdara is very cool.
The Igadzra are the lesser of the three strands in my opinion. Sure, their flying cencored for the public good is by far the best ship, but when you consider the price i dont think it's worth it. A swarm of 10 Azdaras will tear that thing apart for a slightly smaller price tag.
For use with the UE, go Azdgari. An Azdara with dospect plate, and blaze is just cool.

First of all, interesting point with the 200-jump ship for the phased beams. I actually don't think I've ever tried them with a Miranu Courier - that could be interesting!
If you put bronev plating on a Zidara, do you have any space left at all for weapons? ... I forget, but it can't be much!
From memory, it would be the same price for 10 Azdaras and 1 Igazra - aren't the former 1.5M each and the latter 15M? Either way, just adding a bunch of dispersal rockets and / or a good pilot to the Igazra will change all that - but it's still hard to take on 18 Azdaras!
Lastly, why would you put blaze on an Azdara  ? I've always found blaze much less accurate, and of course shorter range, than phase. But yeah from what I've heard, if you can get Dospect on one it can be pretty much invincible....
I made once an interesting experiment, all ships are computer-controlled. An Igazra will be destroyed by the mobile fighters from an Azdgari warship (even if you control the Igazra, it's till hard to concentrate on them and it turns slowly, meaning disp rocket them remains hard). An Azdgari warhip with its complement of fighters will be utterly destroyed by two Zidaras, thanks to the mobile firepower of the 6 phased beams. And two Zidaras attempting to destroy an Igazra will have their fighters destroyed one after another and then be torn to pieces by the resilience of the phallic thing.
Oh, and, byt the way, Azdgari all the way.

I know, and I did. I tested with EVO cheater and without it. I demanded tribute from Council Station and tried to get as many shots on my ship as possible. I also tried adding Bronev Plating, but the Arada is better.
Edit: Miranu couriers with Phased Beams suck.
Zacha Pedro: Weird. Every time I've seen 2 Zidaras fighting against an Igazra, the Zidaras have won. Even 3 Zidaras against 2 Igazras should come at least close.

I prefer the Azdgari, but I usually bought a CF, not an Azdara. More of a challenge.

What's so good about an Azdara? One shot and your ship is the biggest thing left of your ship is barely the size of a purely theoretical particle.
Then again, I'm probably a crackpot :).
