Also, other plugs shouldn't conflict with CF unless they too enhance graphics.

Yes i have read the read-me, and i am running Override off 30000k memory but the plug just doesn't seem to boot up, when i start a new pilot i just get the original graphics like it is overriding the plug-ins (i guess they don't call it Escape Velocity Override for nothing then) i can't figure out what is wrong.

Try raising it to 40 MB. That should be enough even for the most hungry plug. If it still doesnt work, raise it to 60 MB. If it doesnt work by then, something is is just faulty. Probably your Mac is just old...

      Points to what Cade said.

Indeed, Override seems to be overriding your system. 😉 Do you have an old computer / operating system?

    • Greetings,
I just got the new Evo port for Evn (windows version). I have been playing Evo with Cold Fusion since it was released, and with magma before that.

I had some trouble trying to get cold fusion to work. I downloaded the .sit file and expanded it using StuffIt 7.5. When I dropped the files (Cold Fusion landscapes, and Cold Fusion) the black progress window popped up and closed again almost immediately. No .rez files were generated.

My question is this, did I do something wrong? Or, is not possible to use Plug-Ins made for Evo in the Evo port for Evn?

      Thanks,

      Adski

    • I'm pretty sure that EVN cannot use EVO plugins, even if the EVO port for ENV is installed. They need to be converted to EVN format using some utility.

(If I'm wrong, please correct me).

You are probably right, I had a sneaking suspicion that this was probably true. However, I was hoping the utility included in the windows version of Evn to convert Mac plug ins to pc plugins would also be able to convert Evo plugs to Evn format.

Darn, oh well. I guess I will just have to wait for the Cold Fusion plug for the Evo port 😉

    • Yes, Cold Fusion for Nova (as in a replacement of the EVO port's graphics) is an idea I'll probably get around to working on soon.

I honestly can't give any answers to the problem you're having, but last I heard was that EV and Override plugs would not worth with the Nova ports (Refer to UE's comments). Plus using a different OS most likely complicates matters.

Oh yeah, I've been getting e-mails from people asking if I forgot about Dreamwave and the EV community due to the lack of updates and posts. 😛 I'm on a semi-vacation right now, doing a little more around my house and less on the computer (which feels great at the moment). So yeah, if I work on EV-related stuff for too long, it really gets heavy and even stressful.

I've gone through the effort to run just the ship sprites through w00tWare's EnRLE conversion process and plugged them into the Nova EVO port. I can testify that your models look great in the Nova port as well. Thanks a bunch for a really professional job.

    • Hey skyblade, di you think you can port these graphics to the evn version of evo. That way they could be 16 bit. WOuldent be that hard would it. Just a matter of replacing sprites or releds rather.

I've done the same -- and can second Arturo! it's a straightforward job, since the Nova EVO port uses the same resource IDs as EVO. The explosions are also very nice. Can't wait to see the landing pictures in 16-bit color instead of through EVOs pixelated 256 colors!

Skyblade, I've sent you a more verbose email. I'd say the rest of us should forbear releasing our quick hacks for EVN to the public until you've spoken.... But I do hope you are OK with releasing a quick-n-dirty conversion soon so everyone can see your work! Lights, engine glows, animations, etc. etc. can wait for Cold Fusion EVN 2.0!

    • It shall come to pass!

I've heard from Captain Skyblade, who writes:

"I do plan on eventually turning Cold Fusion for Nova into a super eye-catcher (ship banks, engine glows etc), but for now, a direct port of Cold Fusion EVO's graphics will do just fine."

Barring "Acts of Life," the first version of the simpler (but still gorgeous) direct port should be ready pretty soon. I'm preparing a draft, which Skyblade will tweak and release as he sees fit.

Cool. Good to hear he's still on top of this project.. It's a real accomplishment and something to be proud of. I've been re-playing EVO recently and haven't taken Cold Fusion out once yet. 🙂

The re-rendering of the ships makes its look more like candy than ever for some reason, like sugar glass 🙂 mmmmmmm sugar glass.

Hmm, I haven't talked to David lately, but I too am curious. 😉

So yeah, CF for Nova (Override port) should be out soon. With the end of the summer coming around, I've been reluctant to spend much of my time doing purely EV-related work. In fact I've recently been working on a Mac game review site along with its first review on Maelstrom (my very first computer game :p). So call me lazy; I really just haven't had the motivation to keep Dreamwave updated lately or work on EV projects, so I'm glad someone else has taken up the responsibility of overseeing its development. Hopefully my recent addiction to Age of Empires II and Atlanta Braves pride will wear away sometime soon. 😛
