You need to have a Noteworthy combat rating. You must have done the Miranu Diplomatic Relations mission. You must not have started either of the other Strand strings (Igazra or Zidagar). The missions start in South Tip Station in Akrayhek system. There is a timelimit in the first mission, so you need a fast ship. One that can make a jump in on day. After that you can use whatever ship you want. Hmm.. you said you had a tube. That means you have got a Igazra. You cant start the Adzgari string, you need to do a new pilot. Unless you Triple Agent. In that, you must play the Strands in order Igadzra, Zidagar, Adzgari.

It's a plugin called Triple Agent, which actually allows you to play the central objective mission for all three Strands on the same pilot, if you do them in the order it specifies. Or you could just do the two you want to, and leave the Zidagar out of it. You can find the plugin at the top of page 10 of the plugins, if they are organized by name.
Here's another method. It was originally worked out by Jubee, I believe, but it works. He called it his (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum8/HTML/002487.html")New Bold Experiment(/url). You can click on the link to read the topic and how he pulled it off.
To ensure you acquire the recruiting missions, I'd recommend that you get a deadly or ultimate combat rating. I've heard people say you just need noteworthy, but with the technology you get from the Strands, you can conquer some planets, so you might as well go for the deadly rating. And it looks better, too.
You'll also need to complete the Diplomatic Relations mission, which you can acquire from the Miranu on Mira. Just establish the relations between the Miranu and Earth, and then you'll have the mission prerequisite for the recruiting missions done. After that, it's just a matter of getting the recruitment missions.
With regards to the recruitment missions, the Igadzra recruiting mission can be found at Kitrak in the Miranu systems. If you get a mission that has to do with purple river eels, you know you've got the right mission. The Azdgari recruitment mission is found at South Tip Station in the Akrayhek system, which is at the way south of the galaxy, practically inside the Proxima Nebula. To accomplish both Strand objectives using Jubee's method, you just need to accept both of the recruitment missions and then complete them both before the time runs out. You'll need a fast ship for this, one that can make a hyperspace jump in one day.
I hope that helps. I've always found it intriguing, and I have a pilot file where I completed all three Strand objectives, the Miranu central objective, the Voinian missions, and the UE central objective.
