I installed Frozen Heart on my computer, to try it out...

So, it works just fine. But there's this one thing that bothers me.

I jump into this uninhabitated system. There's these meteor things.

So, I take 'em out, easy cake, and my combat rating pops from 'Learner' to 'Legendary'...

Is it supposed to be so?

Also, I was a bit disappointed because all the ships and outfits are straigt copies from EV the Classic...

    • 1)yes, they were given a crew of 9999 so you couldn't capture them (you can always change it in resedit)

      1. Frozen Heart isn't about the weapons, it's about the plot. Just get into the mission string and you'll really enjoy it.

    • Not really answering your question, but killing meteor's is one of the best and quickest ways to be loved by the surrounding systems.

And Zax said you can't capture them, he's right, but however I have flown one. I used a pilot file from the normal EV:O I think it was an Azdara warship (I don't know the name exactly, it's that big yellow one that looks a bit suggestive) and I loaded it into the Frozen Heart, and it gave me an meteor. There quite fast, and have collision, but I was stuck in a system with no other ships and no fuel, so I coulden't really do much.

And like Zax said, get into the storyline, its good.

    • Really? It may be a bug, but I always started getting hated by Independent systems after killing asteroid storms...and it's not only in FH; in any plug-in with xenophobic governments, Independents have never been too happy about my killing them.

Also, there are 3 ships (as far as remember, real ships that is) that are not straight copies from EV, and they're important to the plot. You'll enjoy it once you get into it.

    • Astereioids that can be blown up and rises your legal status? This is so weird. How was it implemented in FH? About ships, I dont know any except the Tachyonic Fighter, and that only because it was repeated on the board so many times I cant forget it.

    • The asteroids are just ships that look like orange rocks..

They have a very low-range attack, only about 5 millimeters away from them, to do the collision..

They dies from 1 or 2 laser shots.

      And they home towards you.

They should have made them stationary, make them have an invisible attack, and look like the standard EV/Maelstrom asteroids.

Like gus said, they are ships that look like asteroids. I think they might be classed as some sort of pirate type thing, thats why blowing them up raises your legal status. They are only in a few certain sytems and they go around in groups of about 10 and actually chase you. Which is weird, considering they are asteroids. They've got a weapon called collision which allows them to bash into you. There quite annoying at the start of the game because a single hit can take out a small ship like a shuttle, and trying to land with a hungry pack of asteroids on your tail has its difficulties. They spice up the game a bit, like the Ion storms, Gas clouds and black hole.

    • Righty. I got it. But it still doesnt make them less weird in some parts. How in the fricking heck do you explain that they chase you? Or heaven forbid- are Pirates? How can lifeless matter hate you? Pirates are after money, what does rock and dust do with that? Ships that look like orange rocks, not real asteriods from EV, are Pirates, chase you, have a almost zero range attack, die from 2 shots (exceptionally weak), only powerful enough to kill a Shuttle.

    • Otherwise you got it correct, but they aren't pirates 😉

The author did make a govenrment for them, they're 'Hazards'.

    • Either:

The anti-grav units in modern ships interphase with the residuals from hyper-drive causing gravitic eddies which have no discernible effect on large-mass bodies, but cause ion-charged particles in ion storms and planetary debris in asteroid storms to head towards the gravitic eddies. Fortunately, only certain classes of asteroids are affected in this way, which is why some systems are dangerous and others aren't.

      Or:

In an asteroid storm, you get the sense that every rock is hurtling towards you, just as when you look into the sky during a snow storm. This is just normal paranoia. In fact, there are thousands of other lumps of rock out there. To save your sanity, your ships scanners' filter out the ones that aren't a danger to you, which makes navigation easier, but increases the paranoid sense of being targetted.

      Or:

      It's a game.

    • Yes... but actually that wasn't my mail problem..

It was the asteroids increasing the combat rating enormously.

Legendary, is it the best possible rating in your plug-in?

      Otherwise, it's a great plug!

    • A pilot walks into the bar.
Nobody looks round — they see a lot of pilots round here, and this one seems nothing special.
You can always tell when they've been in space too long — anti-grav and pseudo-grav never really compensate for the things the void does to your body. His skin is a little puffy, face too pale, hair too untidy.
      So no-one looks.

There's a click on the Cyber News Network. "This just in" says the voice of the announcer. "A single pilot flying a small, civilian ship, today survived a horrific asteroid storm in Altair and succeeded against all odds in clearing an area of space some twenty-four thousand cubic kilometres in volume.

"Regular viewers will know that Altairian storms have this year claimed the lives of seven hundred and forty two space crews, and resulted in a net shipping loss of some fourteen billion credits.

"This unknown pilot who styles himself simply as 'Gus' is fast becoming a legend of the space lanes, with at the last count over fifteen thousand hyper-web sites carrying the news of his exploits."

A picture appears beside the newscaster's face — a non-descript pilot, who looks like he has been too long in space.

The barman pays CNNT no attention. He's seen it all before.
"What'll it be, hotshot?" He says.
"A brandy. And just call me Gus" says the pilot, so quietly that the barman barely hears.

But someone catches the name. A murmur runs through the bar. Eyes flick from the newscast to the pilot, to the newscast, and back to the pilot.

The barman, though, seems not to have noticed.

"Rough day, Gus?" He says. Gus nods.
"Need something for the nerves." He says. "Been out there too long."

The barman nods back. He pours the drink, and leaves it on the counter. He doesn't seem to notice the crowd now gathered around Gus, no-one quite touching him, but each one looking, craning, searching for a better glimpse of his face.

He doesn't notice. He's seen it all before.

      "How much?" Says Gus.

"On the house." Says the barman. "Living legends drink for free."

Oh. Yes, I see. It causes severe problems to this plugs economy, and horrible loss of lives. And he did it with a small non-goverment ship, clearing 24000 (!!!) kilometres of astereiods. Pretty cool... Is this from your Frozen Heart novel?

No, it's not from the novel. That would've made it one really bizzare, but interesting, novel though...

    • you CAN capture asteroids. For some unfathomable reason Matt Burch made shield percent a deciding factor in shp capture. Despite the asteroid storm's insane amount of 'crew' it has no shields and thus has the hightest of all capture ratings: 75%. If you manage to disable one, capture it as escort. Keep capturing them until you have a full fleet of asteroids. Now you can capture SHIELDED phenominon with a 30-60% chance of captue (you should realy capture gas clouds--thier beam may be short range but it shreds less-regenitive ships like gun platforms)

Yeah...you just reminded me, I did capture one once, though it was short lived (it killed a pirate ship for me, and that was the end of it). But yeah, I guess that's a cool idea, capturing natural hazards.

And I've never been able to get powerful enough weaponry to disable a gas cloud before; how did you manage to do it?
