    • If you want a good scatter weapon, get the blaze variety, for all around damage dealing (but kind of slow) get some Neutrons, and for sheild-damaging, get some Phase. There is no real 'best' turret.

    • I'd say that the "phase" is the best in the crescent and in ue space. While the neutron turret is only usable, while you're in voinian space.
      The blaze turret is only good against the voinian, before the Paaren station mission has been done

    • I prefer the Phase Turret, but that's mainly because I spend most of my time in Strand and Miranu space, and the Phase is quite effective there. Unfortunately, the Phase is good only against shields and therefore sucks against Voinian ships, which mainly have armor. The Blaze Turret is kind of an all-around weapon, effective against armor and shields but excellent against neither. The Neutron is good against armor but horrible against shields.

    • Phase against opponents with heavy shields (such as the 10:1 ratios of Crescent ships), and Emalgha against opponents with heavy armour (such as the Voinians.) Yes, I realise that the Emalgha turret only fires in a 180ş arc...but it's not as if anyone lets opponents get in the other 180ş anyway.

      Neutron is heavy, and slow firing. Emalgha can be justified if you're going Voinian hunting only. Phase is just about unquestionable until you enter Voinian space and even United Earth territory. Blaze is, allround, a reasonable, light, cheap weapon.

      No conclusion.

    • If you've got lots of free mass, but only one turret slot, consider a Voinian Neutron Cannon. Blaze are quite interesting though, as the turret fires twice as fast as a fixed mount, I believe. Also, when you hit a small craft with a blaze shot, you knock it back a little. This is great against swarms of fighters.

      I guess it's all down to personal preference. Sorry I can't be more specific!

    • I'd have to go with Phase. The only time it's disadventageous is when you're fighting the stinking Dreadnaught. With a good secondary you can take down armor fairly easily. For easy money, not the fastest though, I go to Hatuli and take down 4 or 5 Turncoats before I head back to a planet. The phase cuts right through them and will disable them reasonably quickly. It is GREAT against Krait fighters too.

    • Both blaze an phase turrets have 1/2 reload (or there-abouts). That's also the basic convention for webstories, and it's pretty much unnoticed that Emalgha and neutron weapons don't follow this rule. I'm surprised to see someone who looks at it from the opposite view, to be honest! I've always thought of Emalgha turrets to have the reload of the cannons, and Voinian cannons to have the reload of the turrets (the latter explaining the weight of Voinian cannons).

      Good point on the free mass meets weapon slots, though, Ambassador. I've always found neutron weaponry to be fairly effective, but far too heavy and prone to missing. Blaze is pretty good, really. I can't be certain how effective the impact would be, though. The lightning fast phase bolts, combined with their accuracy, makes them devastating against fighter swarms.

      Myself, I just make Particle Railguns and Duelbeams (from Silver Horizon) in EVO. Did you know my fighter, the Zirada, can waste an Igazra? AI? <evil grin>

      <shakes head> The most cost effective way to slaughter in Hatuli is six Cargo Transporter escorts - and your own Cargo Transporter. Keep a tight pack, and you have seven blaze turrets - more than a UE cruiser. And it reacts like a single ship, too. I've torn down near fleets of renegades in Hatuli using this method, all on the way to the next planet. Carrying lots of goods. Lovely transporters.

    • Well, as I was doing last night, I went over to Hatuli in a rigged up Crescent fighter, quite the powerhouse if done right. If you buy all the shield enhancers you can and swivel phase cannons you can pound on an enemy for quite a while, zip out of range, recharge and go back. You only have to die if you want to. In about 15 seconds you're back to full power, and if you have to run you can move faster than most tracking weapons, plus your jump time is phenomenally low. It's only getting hit with multiple crescent weapons that will do you in - SAD modules pose a whole new threat.
      But that isn't really related to turrets, so I'll shut up now. 😄

    • Hoo boy, Shrout, are you becoming a Falcon? I've done exactly the same before. And don't worry about SADs or SAEs - Crescent fighters can outrun them pretty easily. Pursuit missiles are more dangerous, abut even they can be avoided with some work. ECMs really do help, though - Crescent fighter pilots would do well with Zidagar. In 1.0.2, though, watch out for Azdgari warships. In the earlier versions, a repulsor beam was all you needed to deal with Azdaras, but now...

      But yes, with its range over blaze, phase is great in UE space. Until you think; "am I using the Monty Python"?

    • Well, I guess it's kind of a monty, but not really, I'm just sitting off his bow firing, not really moving. Another thing to be careful of are dispersal rockets, especially if there are multiple guys firing at you.

      Actually, the Emalgha does wonders on armor but does jack squat on shields. And you're wrong about the neutron weapons, they do more damage on shields than armor, better than blaze turrets and cannons, also they fire a longer distance with virtually as much accuracy as the phase weapons.

    • Well, it's past time this was said in the topic.

      e = shield damage
      m = armour damage
      a = (e+m)/2

      In other words, "a" gives a sort of "damage rating" value, taking into account both armour and shield damage. A reasonable system for how much "e" and "m" are required is almost impossible to come across, so I ignored it.

      While this is technically true, phase shots move faster, (as you said) giving phase a longer effective range than neutrons.

    • Yes, but, if you look at reload times plus a mass to damage ratio I think that you would find Phase has better punch (on shields) per ton of turret than Neutron. And, unless you're doing the UE string, the Prey ships in UE space (Helian, Turncoat) all have low enough armor that Phase can take them out. Ships actually worth plundering are in the crescent and then it's phase all the way. The only vonian ships worth plundering are supply ships and only if you have the capacity for all that cargo.

      I wonder how an armored, fully expanded and weaponized Miranu Heavy freighter would fare against Vonian supply ships...
