I've been reading the various topics and have a question/questions about the Devastator mission: Even though the mission info says to destroy it, do I only disable it? Why do the Democratic ships attack me when I'm trying to stop something attacking me? Why do these Democratic ships sometimes get in the way when I'm using my T-Laser and using the (what I call) Lock-on and Spin Maneuver? They get in the way and get hit by my laser. And just why would the D-ships want to get close to the Devastator when it's in one of it's bad moods? I suppose I should try to disable the Devastator using just my laser, huh?

Okay! I just disabled the Devastator (even though the text says to destroy it) and got on with the mission. No problemo!

Well, can't remember the answer to this question...but the problem with ships attacking you when you're firing your tachyonic laser is an inherent problem with the EV engine -- AI ships can't distinguish between friend and foe when hit by a beam; they just get MAD. So, uh, don't hit anybody you don't want to hit with a beam weapon.

Well, whenever I had to use the Tach laser, I made sure to stop firing if a friendly came into range. However, I did accidentally hit one of the Rigellian Hunter-Killers helping me Sack New Venus, and it was still friendly. I guess it had it's own battles to attend to. I did, however, disable the Devastator. BTW: How many tries did it take you to destroy the Black Hole in Styx? Took me only five! I dunno if that's a record or not!

My favorte tactic (behind pythoning) is to target something that is far away, or is your escort. You then use your turreted weapons to shoot at it, and bring the line of fire across another ship. I.E. Escort: 0 degrees. You:180 Degrees, a few clicks away - Igadzra in the middle. It shouldn't notice a thing and you'll have it disabled.
