for all I know, I see 3 fleets at at startup, the UE fleet consisting of a destroyers and UE fighters, the renegade fleet with a turncoat with its krait who is being attacked by UE fighters, and the Voinian fleet composed of 3 frigates and one of them blows up probably by missiles from the UE fighters.
There, this should settle it once and for all

That's what I think. The UE Destroyer and Fighters in the foregound are fighting Voinian ships (Frigates is my guess) while the UE fighters in the background are firing on a Renegade Turncoat and its Krait escorts.
There was a topic on this issue a while back on this board (unfortunately, there were big pics that made the horizontal lenth too long) and some people suggested that the blue ships being fired on were Zachit. :rolleyes: Please, only in Voinian propoganda does that happen.

Now I'm wondering why some of those ship models didn't appear as the sprites in EVO. The fighters, for one, look a lot better than those red things in the game. And the rest of them too.

Well, I believe the splash screen was done separately from the sprites; it may have been done after the fact, or it may have been simply that the render time would have been too long to do full animations from the high quality versions. I'm not sure how powerful Peter Cartwright and Chris West's comptuers were.
