    • Frozen Heart: Making Missions on Time

Can someone please let me know how to make my mission destination/system on time? To be specific, I am playing with the Frozen Heart plug (I also have the "Lightning Jump" plug). I have just accepted the "Commando Raid at Fortuna" mission—asked by Ladi Van Roth—on New Venus (only 4 jumps away from New Venus). Landed on Fortuna, made the raid, and tried to get back to New Venus on time. But halfway through the game tells me that the mission failed because of the time limit being exceeded. No matter what I have tried—having a very fast ship, no personal escorts, etc.—I kept missing the deadline.

Please let me know what I can do to make the mission on time. Thanks in advance!

    • To start with you do not need ANY other plug when playing FH. Get a good'ol ship you can afford, the rest will come in due time 5wanderer is a decent choice IMHO). The difficulty is loosing most of the reflexes from EVO: You need to be humble and alienate as few govts as you can, you do not need to race for money, hence you do not need a fancy ship (Althought you will be given the possibility to get a kracker soon)
Enjoy that plug. I know a lot of us did...

    • Also, whenever you accept a mission with a stated time limit, make sure you have enough time to complete it first. Some missions will be available in more than one place, but can only be completed if you undertake them at a location sufficiently close to where you have to go.

    • You need the Tachyonic fighter and as much fuel as you can get your hands on. Don't stop to refuel anywhere; hail ships or disable pirate ships and take what you need. Time is of the essence. Don't delay when you don't have do.

    • First, Frozen Heart was made to test the player. That's why I wouldn't sudjest buying the biggest ship out there. They take more time to travel through hyperspace. Smaller ships take a lot less time. This can be the defining element of completing a mission with a time limit. Don't focus on the size of a ship. Focus on tactic and how you can use a small ship to defeat and accomplish the mission. Good luck.

    • It is a bit odd, however, if you do have a one-day jump ship, and are getting the mission from New Venus - nice and close as you say. I'd say aborting, or just failing and finding it again would be the options if your ship does indeed jump in one day. And try to get the mission from closer to the destination - if you can.. can't quite picture the map right now :).

    • Thanks for the replies so far. I'd like to also clearify by adding that I have a fairly small and fast ship, have suffcient fuel so I didn't need to stop and refuel on the way, had the course plotted all the way, and from where I pick up the mission to the destination is only 4 jumps ahead. But I still miss the deadline on my way back

By the way, I have never seen a Tachyonic fighter before in shipyards, where may I purchuse it?

The Tachyonic Fighter is not readily available; you have to complete a series of missions to persuade an engineer named Emile to give it to you. Once he gives you access to it, I believe he tells you where you can buy it. You first meet Emile at a chess match which begins in the mission computer. I don't know offhand what the requirements are for that mission, but I got it fairly early on, from Earth I think. You should always check the mission computer for unusual missions as The Frozen Heart doesn't limit itself to the bar the way many plug-ins do.

    • Thanks David for the info regarding the Tachyonic Fighter. I had already met Emile at the chess match a while back, yet nothing really happened. Guess I'll have to be patient and see what happens. Still love to complete the mission which I had previously asked about though

    • With a Tachyonic fighter, Mag, all the missions should be well within range, as long as you don't stop for refueling, etc.

    • This was so hard for me in FH. I had the mission that started on Earth and involved going to Rigel. Oh well, you can always hack it in ResEdit. I believe I had to do this in order to complete a mission. 😕

    • LMX, hacking is definitely not necessary in Frozen Heart. Martin Turner did an amazing job, and none of the mission strings required that.

Although I got it from a little birdy that Esponer hacked the black hole. 😛 Just suck it up and try a lot, chances are you'll succeed eventually!
