    • Linux compatablility question

(sigh I miss the good old days, where my computer class had no teacher and wasn't a class. There were only low-quality iMacs but still high enough to enjoy playing EVO every day. And especially the nice warm summer days...)

Oops, I'm rambling. I was wondering if Linux OS on a PC was able to play EVO? The emulation tutorial I currently maintain (see sig) works great...for other people. I only have 133 Mhz so it's a bit too slow. I can run EV, but I miss EVO...I'm rambling again...

    • Try executer if you haven't. (www.ardi.com) I think that there is a linux version... I can't remember for sure. Anyway, I suggest looking into that.

It's called Linux, not Linux OS 😛

I highly doubt you'll be able to play EVO when emulated. I emulated Mac OS in Linux on a MACINTOSH (same processor!) and EV runs ok, EVO is awful.

I suppose you ran MOL to do that, because if you used a normal emulator there would be no difference if the computer you used was a mac or a pc. And MOL is no real emulator.

      That makes absolutly no sense.

Even OS X's OS 9 "emulator" runs more slowly.

It does make sense, MOL and classic doesn't have to emulate the processor and/or other hardware you already have in your computer, a normal emulator has to emulate the entire computer. If MOL and Classic are slower than regular emulators, something is wrong.

    • You just said there would be "no difference".

      That's completely wrong.

It is impossible for an emulator to run software at the same speed.

I said there would be no difference running a normal emulator on a Mac or on a PC.

And no it is not, take a look at a C64 emulator for example. 🙂

    • just nods head and smiles

      Riiiight...

EV and EVO will have a performance decrease no matter what "emulator" you are using, period.

    • Not an emulation question.

I've actually never used Linux before (but thar Linux OS thing was a typo). I was merely wondering if it was capable of running Macintosh programs. Didn't much expect it would, but gotta ask.

      Um, oh yeah, does it?

No. Just as Mac OS X doesn't run Mac OS 9 apps. Instead, it uses a "emulator" program that runs OS 9 apps inside of it.

So with Linux, you'll need an emulator like Mac-On-Linux to run your OS 9 programs. It's like with running Windows programs inside Mac OS.
