    • Tractor and Repulsor beams... Interesting uses?

C'mon.. I haven't come up with any real use for either one of these... The repulsor, sure, it'll repulse... the tractor beam, sure,it'll hold a ship in place... still. Is there anything else these can be used for?

    • I like to use the repulser beam for controlling those pesky little fighters. And pushing ships around. (i didn't find a whole lot to use it for.)

Now, the tractor beam is nice to use on missions where you need to rescue a disabled ship.

    • How about using the right-angle firing guns (name escapes me)? You flit past a cap ship and tractor it, which gives you more time to the side of the target. If you travel fast enough, you rip out of the tractor, but it gives you a longer time with your side to the target. I generally don't use them, so...shrugs

    • I know this is an Override forum, and I've never actually used the tractor beam in Override, but in the original EV it came in handy during combat situations to hold fighters in place whilst you turret 'em, and it also limited their rate of fire. Guess I'll have to try it in EVO

    • Ahh...the repulsor beam. The greatest tool of any pilot who would step into a Crescent Fighter and go head to head with Azdaras.

Repulsor beam's impact against an Azdara is less than the Azdara's top speed. Slow 'em down, and move in for the kill.

Great for isolating one from a pack, too.

    • Use a tractor beam to drag disabled fighters over their disabled mothership. This makes them get taken aboard. When you have filled up the mothership, board it, and take all the fighters ('ammo') for yourself.

In 1.0.2, you need the appropriate bay or you won't see the 'ammo' listed, of course.

    • If you have the appropriate bay, you can collect disabled fighters just by using the Board command on them.
I haven't found the tractor and repulsor beams useful in EVO proper, but they do come in handy in Frozen Heart....

Can you exceed the max# allowed, using that technique, though? In other words, could you end up carrying twelve UE fighters?

A shame carried fighters always get killed off so quickly... it's not really worth bothering with this tactic.

    • Here's what i use. When i combat a big but annoyingly agile ship, like the Igazra, the crescent warships, etc, i will tractor them to slow them down, aswell as usually lock them in combat with my superior warship (considering i have one). With slightly smaller ships, i will repulse them, as to confuse them a bit, and immediately nail them with a dispy rocket.

    • Though it's not as practical as VoinianAmbassador's idea, I like to use the repulsor beam for the great sport of Krait-flinging 😄

Yes. And believe me; 30 UE fighters carried in a UE Cruiser (possible, the cruiser can wipe out carriers before they even get fighters out) is a galaxy-taking force.

    • Ahh, the tractor beam - trust me, you can have some fun with this......Fighting voinians? Dont wanna get too close to a big fleet of 'em? Diable a frigate and drag it between you and the rest of the fleet, and watch the voinians take out thier own ship with rockets - also an effective shield against neutrons!

Cant think of any good uses for the repulsor beam, though maybee to push azdaras and kraits away.

God is dead, the universe is benignly indifferent to one's well-being, and we are each trapped within the confines of our own personal subjectivity. We are alienated by our finite perspectives, we are easily forgotten once we die, and no comfort exists for us after death for there is no knowledge of anything in the grave. We only live once, so seize the day and be true to yourself! Be authentic, particularly with yourself. Be the author of your own ideal! Bring forth the übermensch! Thus spake Zarathustra.
Okay, I'm drunk now. But at least I am authentic when I'm inebriated.

I use the repulsor beam to get away from those pushy and hideously ugly Voinian crack whores that inevitably hit on me in the Pax bar. The tractor beam attracts those sexy Miranu showgirls, but I generally don't really need to use it because they already like my souped-up UE Cruiser with fully stocked wet bar and circular rotating/ vibrating bed beneath a large mirror.

    • What would happen if two ships faced each other and one fired a tractor beam at the other while the other fired a repulsor beam back and the beams perfectly overlapped? I think it would create a time-space distortion so intense that the entire universe would collapse into a singularity, resulting in a new Big Bang that creates the universe of EVO: Nova.

By the way, try some of this Saalian Brandy. It's spiked with Substance E and can expand your mind so you can hear the colors of the universe swirling around...ahhh, the lucid lavender dreams...

    • The most useful thing for the Tractor on EV is on the Alien fighters, and in EVO, to stop Voinan fighters from killing you so damn fast. Also do the fighter "ammo" trick.

    • I like cruising in an Igazra, fly past a Voinian Frigate, use the tractor beam and drag it behind me while I pummel it's hull to peices.
Beyond that, no I can't think of any more uses, I don't use them often because they waste your fuel so quickly.
