    • Would PoG be a good gift for a kid?

Greetings. My 10 year old son would probably like this game, so is there anything in the game that would not be appropriate for a kid? I usually play EV: Nova and I don't find anything that my kid shouldn't read there.

I thank you in advance for your thoughtful and polite replies to my question, because I did do a search.

I think it would be good gift, 'cause I'm 11 yers old ( 12 in January 🙂 ), and I like that game.
And I don't think there's anything that would not be appropriate for a kid.

    • No, it doesn't have any really evil and creepy creatures in it like Diablo II, and it will keep you playing for quite a while due to the (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/pog/addons.html")wealth of plugins(/url) out right now. If you're going to get, be sure to get the CD, then the 1.0.2 update. The CD is $30 ($5 more than the shareware version), but it includes Trinity and two bonus movies.
Actually, I don't think you can buy PoG or Coldstone right now, because Ambrosia has taken both of them down from sale because of the Panther bug and a very uncooperative Beenox.

Hi breedlovejumbo. I figure my grandson, who is now nine, is about ready to start with PoG. The game is clean. The fights are bloodless. The monsters are scary without being the type to induce bad dreams.

I do hope you can still purchase a copy. As has been mentioned, there are some behind the scenes problems which Ambrosia has to work out. They have temporarily closed sales on this. I wish you success. ~RD

    • I went ahead and bought the entire Ambrosia CD two months ago when I registered EV Nova. The only reason I haven't started playing PoG myself is EV Nova. Time tends to disappear when I play games.

Anyway, I already have a copy, and I am very happy with OS 10.2.6.

    • Before you register and start playing, get Trinity and make sure you are running PoG 1.0.2. Then, you will want to grab the following plugins. They are a good addition to your game:

      Damsels in Distress
      Spells Expander
      World of Chaos
      The Mushroom Lady
      Dernath Merchant
      Bankers Guild
      Sapphire

      😄

EDIT: Wow, Rubber Ducky's a grandpa! Hehe...
You might also want to try Cythera, but that is geared for slightly older children (not to mention that it is Classic only). Not so much for the content, but the sheer difficulty of the puzzles and certain quests. However, Cythera has more varitiy in gameplay that PoG couldn't even touch. Go (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum5/HTML/001515.html#")here for my progress(/url).

I just read your "progress log" and Cythera sounds like a challenging game. I never played it but I noticed that you keep asking, "How do I do this or that?" or "Where am I supposed to go now?" Aren't you supposed to figure these out yourself? Or, is that the part that makes it challenging - trying to find someone with all the answers.

    • Figure it out for yourself, then post on the web board when you get stuck. Just stay away from Slayer's page, however. That's a Cythera no-no.

If you're OK with EVN, you shouldn't have any complaints about the content of PoG. The worst I can think of in this game are very mild swearing ("Those damn kobolds") and one minor sexual innuendo (a woman asking you to help "move her furniture" while her husband's away, including a large bed...) Very minor stuff, and compared to EVN, it's nothing at all.

If you have a newish version of OS X, though, you may want to avoid purchasing PoG at this time, due to the lack of support by the original developer. As you've probably noticed if you've looked around the boards at all, PoG is mildly incompatible with OS X 10.2 (some - fortunately avoidable - issues with save files) and quite incompatible with OS X 10.3 (impossible to even run the game). I believe I've also heard rumors about some minor incompatibilities with certain versions of Windows, but that's not my field of expertise.

      Hope this helps!
