    • Saved game won't reload

I have PoG 1.0.2, running on an old Mac 7300/200 with MacOS 8.6. The game is registered. Everything was fine till this afternoon, when I saved my game and quit. When I tried to reload it, my initial game save wouldn't load at all--it seemed to load, then the program quit and left me back at the desktop. My most recent game save also wouldn't load, but it gave me the message, "Impossible to load this saved game." I understand that this is usually caused by not having the plug-ins available that the game was saved with, but I wasn't using any plug-ins when I saved the game. Does anyone have any ideas about what's going on here?

Hi Stefanos, welcome to the boards. Are you trying to load this save after you have fired up PoG? If so, try doubleclicking on the saved game file before you open the application. The plugins shouldn't affect the starting of this save either way because once it starts to open you get to select which plugins you want activated.

Another method which should work for you is to drag and drop the saved game file to the PoG icon. Please let us know if either of these methods work for you. ~RD

    • None of them work.

Hopefully, Stark Bledfast will see this in the morning. He uses OS 8.6 I'm pretty sure. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the file got corrupted and that, I'm certain, is not what you want to hear. Be patient and others will try to help.

So your initial saved game loads but then crashes PoG, and your most recent saved game gives you the "Impossible..." message?

And you say that you quit normally earlier; there was no crash or anything?

And no plug-ins at all when you saved your game?

Check the size of the saved game files and post back that and the answers to the above questions please.

    • Yes my initial saved game loads but then crashes PoG, and my most recent saved game gives me the "Impossible..." message. And yes I quit normally by pressing the X button and then at the main screen I pressed Quit. And I had no plug-ins when I saved.

The initial saved game is 19,312 bytes. The most recent game is 18,943 bytes.

In my initial game I was at the Wyrm Valley tunnel entrance and in my most
recent game I was next to the dwarf who gives you the most powerful single handed weapon in the game, the Runic Sword. In both of them I got the Runic Sword right before I quit and could not load it again.

    • Anyone have an idea?

    • Unfortunately it sounds like something went FUBAR and your saved game file has become corrupted. It probably can not be recovered.

I'm out of ideas, but I'm going to move this over to Help is on the Way. Perhaps Mr. Dunham has a suggestion or an idea.
