    • A very odd bug — Can anyone help me?

I have a very odd, and very persistant bug in EVO. For a while now, When opening EVO it fades to black and stays there. No cursor, not even CMD-Power works. I've tried reinitializing my hard drive, running disk protection software, manually setting my monitor resolution and depth, allocating more RAM, redownloading, reinstalling, et cetera. Ambrosia tech support hasn't been all too helpful (though they did try). If anyone has any clue what this may be, please contact me. Just post it here on the board, or email me: crafty@solstice.ath.cx
Thank you everyone, for your help!

    • Some ideas that may not seem directly connected to the problem but you never know:

      - Rebuild your desktop
      - Trash the EVO pref
      - Trash the Finder pref
      - Start up with all 3rd party extensions and control panels disabled (especially any Norton stuff and things like RAM Doubler)

Don't know if that will help, your description almost makes me think its a graphics card problem but as far as I know Override doesn't use graphics acceleration. If you can't get it to work then reply with your computer specs.

    • I had a plugin which caused that to happen each time I launched EV:O once. The fault disappeared when I unpacked the plug with a more up-to-date version of Stuffit. It might be something to try, anyway.

You're not using an odd screen resolution with 'simulscan', are you?

    • I'd just take any valuable pilot files out, trash EV/O, and reinstall it. Or you could try the ol' brick to monitor approach.

    • Hmm, I agree with Voinian Ambassador!

An old version of StuffIt or Stuffit Expander tends to eat the resource forks of anything from the internet..

    • That use to happen to me, too!

I went to "Get Info" on the EV Override file and raised the minimum and preferred by a few 1000 K's. It worked for me. And if that doesn't work, get RAM.

    • Compare the problem with running other ambrosia games and games that use the same mode of graphics usage (same resolution, colors, 2D). That's the only other thing i'd do. If you can provide your system specs and extremity extensions that might be helpful.
