    • Speculation on the name "Interplanetary News Network"

      I was reading a story the other day, entitled "Soldier, Ask Not" by Gordon Dickson, and the main character worked for the Interplanetary News Network. It's unlikely that anyone else has read this story -- although it did win the Hugo in the mid-1950s -- or noticed the identical name, but could the title of the ubiquitous INN have originated from this story?

      (Yes, I am bored. Yes, I read too much. Yes, I read too much into things sometimes. Yes, I do think this may even have a chance to be right.)

      It's possible, but the name is pretty generic. I think it's a coincidence in all likelihood.

      I think this is rather unlikely, given that EV's news network is not called INN. In classic Escape Velocity, it's ISN, the Interstellar News Network, and in Override, it's UEN, the United Earth News Network.

      Very odd -- I could have sworn that I'd seen INN before somewhere, and I assumed it would be here. Hmm
