Yep, the original Mac OS was a rip off of Xerox PARC. And while this is a bad thing, it harld compares to Microsoft, whose original ideas can probably be counted on one hand... (note to Sm: this is sarcasm, I am well aware that they have had more than 5 original ideas)

    • Windows platforms are also easier to hack into. Ever heard of Back Orifice? That program makes hacking Windows soooo easy, but it doesn't work for Macs. Perhaps because they're so uncommon. MACS: The computers hackers forgot!

That's a good point, thanks for brining it up! It's not because it's less common, the Mac OS really IS harder to hack. In fact, the US Military recently switched over from Windows NT to the Mac OS for their servers for that very reason...

    • Let me take this moment to point out that Windows NT is a terrible, buggy, slow, system. Glad I got that out, now I feel happy.

:sigh: This is when I miss Jude; at least she visited every now and then :frown:

<edit>Apparently, the one unlisted mod -- andrew -- had seen this topic earlier, but decided to let it be. So we still have semi-active moderators, but none of the ones whose names appear in lights at the top of this page. 🙂

Yea I talked with moki about that on #ev3, about how EV, EVO and EVD boards all lack recent moderaters. He said he didn't see a need for any at the time. I disagree though. After loosing Jude.....

Heh, maybe it is time I did something for this community/board....

I will state first off that I do not like Windows NT. However, if an NT box is setup correctly, it rocks.

We have it on all the computer lab PCs at OK Univ. and I never thought they were at all buggy or slow. They all ran very smooth and fast and never crashed or was buggy.

However, we are dealing with a very basic system that does the same tasks over and over again. Running basic programs like MS Office apps, IE...etc.

If I was going to setup a PC to be used for basic tasks for a mulitude of people and wanted something people were familiar with and was chopped full of security, I'd use Windows NT/2000. And if I wanted it to be free and not have the security flaws NT has, scarificing the Windows look people are familiar with, I'd use Linux.

Heh. Maybe I could pull a Clintonian career politician tactics. That is what my city's mayor does. Basically she doesn't say anything, follow the polls, doesn't have any principle and doesn't do anything contraversial.

    • In the future, perhaps we should make a pact to never respond to posts like this. This argument will never end, and we gave the original poster exactly what he wanted - a long and heated debate. In the future, let's not get into an argument about which platform is better. Let's not respond to those posts at all. Who's with me???

Oh I forgot, most debates end in complete agreement. Your first mistake was dissing the PC 😃

Mistake? I think not... (Why am I even responding this? This breaks my unilateral post I signed before... I guess it's for honor!)

Besides - find me one Mac-PC debate that ended in agreement. The fact that they continually pop up is evidence of the fact that they never end in agreement. Preference is based completely on what you use most. I don't think you will ever change anyone's mind, which is why we shouldn't have these foolish arguments in the first place. Especially not on a board devoted to a Mac-only game.

Enough said. I will hereby stop posting anything about the Mac-PC debate. I only hope I can keep this promise. I ask you all to willingly do the same. Or at least try. I can't promise I can stop posting in arguments such as these, because I love the Mac so much, but I will try... For the good of the Webboard!. I hope some people will join me!

    • Macintoshes are more expensive for a reason; They are quality computers. All parts will work fine with them, because those parts were made specifically to work with the particular computer. Windows runs on a variety of cheap @$$ computers, and half the parts won't work with most of the computers. The world is rather biased against the mac for unknown reasons. God Damned Gate's is nothing but a theif. He stole 12M credits 🙂 from his father to start his Micros*** (I censored myself!) company; stole ideas of a GUI from Xerrox and Apple. He is a cheap back-stabber who is good in business and vague contracts. (The reason windows wasn't crushed when Apple sued him.) Windows is a little more complicated to use, but after a while becomes fairly easy; because it was copied from Mac OS. I refuse to use his products because he is evil though. Anyway, the software thing is more of a solution than a problem. The software that ends up Mac-compatible is normally quality programs that have had large success on the PC market. Mac users and staunchest Apple fans don't have to worry about cheap and very stupid programs. Apple only recieves excellent games like EV, EVO and EVN.

Why hasn't this been moved to B&B; yet?

We were talking about hardware, hello!

With a PC you have a tremendous choice of vendors, or you can build one yourself. If you want a new Mac, you gotta buy it from Apple

What are you talking about? I swap PC parts all the time. Be a little more specific in your nonsense so I can point you in the right direction.

The world is rather biased against the mac for unknown reasons.
Hmm gee I don't know why. Considering 85% of the world uses Windows and Macs are all made by one company.... nope no good reason

The idea of a GUI? Please. People wanted a GUI forever. That's like me designing a 3D GUI and any copies of it stole from my original idea. It wouldn't be as it is not an original idea... it just hasn't been made yet.

I can point you to some sites with some really s***ty Mac games if you want.

    • OK, your points are made and they are good and valid. I'm starting to consider macs as somewhat decent computers (I'm stubborn), and I'm considering possibly ( _ possibly_ ) getting one sometime in the future. Thank you for your help.

(P.S. This was a sort-of fun argument, but I did not want it to be one. I merely wanted to know why you thought macs were better. Feel free to post an ending statement, but please do not continue the argument.)
