    • Damn liars

I hate it when people aren't truthful about their plugs. Just today, my weboard recieved a post, from an unregistred member, regarding the EVO movies/cutscenes project completion. My heart skipped a beat. I thought that they were finally here. I went to the addons page and nothing. That jerk, or jerkess, had tricked me. I deleted it, but damn it annoyed me. I get the feeling it was someone on this forum in particular. I'm not expecting anyone to admit to anything but please, please, just don't do anything like that again.

Thanx for listening to my suffering 😉

    • A certain amount of freedom is given to all people.... if someone wants to say "damn", then so be it. There's a reason that the swear filter doesn't filter the word out... because it's a perfectly fine swear word to use. Please, in the future, don't tell people to watch their language.

I just wanted to note that not all, if many people share your view on that. No offense intended, but freedom of speech refers to the English language, not profanity. (which isn't part of English, but words thrown in to make it dirty) On many web boards I have been to lately, you'll get banned for using profanity. Anyway, are we getting off the subject here?

    • A few things...

      1. yeah, it's off subject, but then again.... you told him off first.

      2. I never said freedom of speech. I said freedom. people have the freedom to swear, especially the "lighter" swear words.

      3. You visit some pretty strict webboards. There's nothing wrong with swearing in moderation (something Gunsh definately did)

      Now then, back on subject...

Gunsh, are you sure that it hasn't been released? Perhaps on the author's website, but not uploaded to ambrosia yet? If not... I'm sorry. that person really is a jackass.....

    • No, they definately told me it was on the EVO addons official page. I looked and posted back that I couldn't see it. I then recieved a post which simply said 'hahaha you ******'

I deleted the whole topic. I don't know if any of my board's mods maybe saw it. It all happened in the space of five minutes. The worst part is that you can't ban unregistred users and that was the plug-in that if it had truly existed, would be brilliant. The guy claimed that the moooovies were full screen, SC style. Man, I'm cheesed off (I wouldn't normally say cheesed but I've been cautioned by Captain Skyblade ;))

At the risk of further derailing this topic, I would like to make a few comments about this statement.

      • Freedom of expression is a right explicitly recognized by the constitutions of most democratic countries. It is generally taken to include speech, writing, and 'symbolic speech' (such as wearing armbands, burning flags, or the use of other non-linguistic symbols). No democratic country that I am aware of restricts freedom of expression to a single language.

      • Constitutional guarantees of freedom of expression only protect people from governmental interference. The owner of a private forum, such as this web board, can set rules about who may express themselves there, and about what constitutes appropriate expression. As the owner of this web board, Ambrosia has the right to censor offensive language in posts, or to delete inappropriate topics, or to ban people from posting. In fact, if Ambrosia did not have the right to regulate its own web board, then Ambrosia's freedom of expression would be threatened.

      • Ambrosia has decided to censor automatically some words that are widely considered offensive or taboo. Other potentially offensive words are not censored, but there are guidelines that caution posters against being deliberately offensive or insulting.

      • I conclude from Ambrosia's policy that any words not automatically censored are at least potentially acceptable in posts. Of course, posters may decide to limit their own vocabulary further in deference to the feelings of others.

      • Finally, a linguistic point - 'profane' words are indeed a part of the English language. Most taboo words in English have been in the language for many centuries; some of them were not always considered offensive, but have gradually become taboo as other words have replaced them in polite usage. From a linguistic point of view, taboo words are not just "thrown in to make (the language) dirty." However, it would be reasonable to say that such words are not part of formal written English.

Oh, and on the original topic - my sympathies to Gunsh! That was a truly rotten trick.

Why would ambrosia restrict unregistered users? This happened at Gunsh's board, not here.

Ah, ok...I missed that part. But even then, the same thing could easilly happen here at the Ambrosia web board. I mean, as stupid as this may sound, I was doing a voting poll on the weapons of EV, and someone (I won't say who) was getting mad that their favorite outfit wasn't winning, so he decided to make three votes by unregistered users, each with different names. Even if it isn't a big deal, it still isn't right, and people could take advantage of that by using the screen name of an unregistered user and getting away with things that should ban them.

Thanks for your post, FreakOf Nature. Lets just say I consider profanity a part of the English language now, even if I find it very offensive.

I agree with Freak on this. The only thing that makes 'profane' words profane is that they were replaced with more polite words (although some of the profane words have more than one meaning, e.g. ass as in donkey, or ass as in rear end). And yes, anything not censored by the board is acceptable. I also feel sorry for hermy crab, and whoever was the little ****bag who did what he/she did, the worst of luck to them!

"America" is a pretty undefined phrase. You talking Nicaragua or Argentina or Canada?
If you mean the U.S.A., well, go to Utah, try to smoke a cigarette...
(Ah, you live in the right spot, cross the border to Nevada, and smoke your cigarette there.)
America is just an idea, so is freedom of thought. What good is being able to think what you want when you can't publish your thoughts?
(within limits, o.k., so on this board you shouldn't swear, but using the word "damn" once isn't really that bad, now, is it.)

    • To those of you rambling about the swearing issue:

What are you 9 or something?

    • Look, off topic it may be, but there is no need for real swearing. I think though that saying damn is about as offensive as 'balderdash' or 'oh dear'.

Anyways, I know who did it. It was a 'friend' of mine who plays EVO but is not registred here. That litte jerk went and did it.

You know, I've just about had enough of all this, so maybe I should post some facts about profanity, and prove that other people know it's bad. 🙂

      Swearing Imposes a Personal Penalty
      It gives a bad impression
It makes you unpleasant to be with
      It endangers your relationships
It's a tool for whiners and complainers
It reduces respect people have for you
It shows you don't have control
      It's a sign of a bad attitude
It discloses a lack of character
      It's immature
      It reflects ignorance
      It sets a bad example

      Swearing is Bad for Society
It contributes to the decline of civility
It represents the dumbing down of America
It offends more people than you think
      It makes others uncomfortable
      It is disrespectful of others
It turns discussions into arguments...(Yeap, I'm guilty of that one :frown: )
It can be a sign of hostility
      It can lead to violence
      Swearing corrupts the English language
      It's abrasive, lazy language
      It doesn't communicate clearly
      It neglects more meaningful words
      It lacks imagination
      It has lost its effectiveness

And who said I was nine years old? 🙂
