    • Ques. for Admins. or Mods. {ChaT ProG?}

Hey. Just wondering. Has ambrosia ever looked into a chat program for ambrosia and its products? I was thinking about it because it would really help out with some of the topics here on the board and would really speed things up~ rather than waiting for your answer to a question you asked on the boards, it would be live and you could get answers quickly and directly.

IF you guys think that this is a good idea- please start the project whenever you think its suitable, because it would be revolutionary and very convenient here at ambrosia's site.

PS: I know that the webboard has been here for a while and all of that nostalgic stuff comes back from the "olden days" of the internet--- but when technology is at its best, shouldn't we harness it and use it?

    • I think there is a chat room of sorts, but I hate chatrooms, so haven't checked into it. Anyone else know? If you don't get any responses, try the help forum.

    • Ambrosia does have a private IRC server: irc.ambrosia.net.

    • No,no, no. I mean a stand-alone chat program. Much like GameRanger, if any of you are familiar with it. That would give ambrosia a whole new level of integrity if it had its own chat program.

    • How do you get to #ev3?

This was posted by blackhole in another thread, but I've slightly modified it.

And if you dont know where it is, here's the info:

      Server: irc.ambrosia.net
      Channel: #ev3

Want a client? For MacOS, I suggest getting Ircle, for those that have to use windows (DO NOT USE MSCHAT), get mIRC.

I only know how to setup in Ircle, so mIRC users have to sort out themselves.

      1. Lauch Ircle
      2. Click 'edit' in the 'connections' floating window
      3. Enter 'irc.ambrosia.net' as the server by clicking on the 'select' button in the initial tab that appears, click 'add'. Enter 'irc.ambrosia.net' as the server (no quotes incase you're dumb enough to need this warning), and leave the port at 6667. Set the network to 'none' (at the bottom of the list). Click OK. Scroll to the bottom of the servers listbox, and highlight irc.ambrosia.net. Click select.
      4. Enter your nickname in the appropriate fields. No spaces are allowed, and use 9 characters as the max length.
      5. Check the other tabs, I suggest that you dont enter your email address or real name anywhere.
      6. Make sure the autoexec field (under the autoexec tab) is empty and then click OK.
      7. Highlight the connection you just edited in the connections box and click 'connect'
      8. A whole load of stuff will go past in the console window, it can normally be ignored. If you see a line like '***Ident Failed' then you're behind a firewall, you may not be able to connect
      9. Once all the stuff stops going past, type '/join #ev3' and you're in

      Hope that helps.

    • There's no point in a stand-alone program like Game-ranger. First off, Ambrosia doesn't have enough people to support something like game-ranger. However, the IRC channel works out just fine. It's a lot of fun, it's easy to access, and there are always people in it. You don't need anything else.
