    • Baby Blobs

OK, I finally started implementing the "Horrible Gelatinous Blob" idea I first mentioned in the thread about ever-changing color ships, that Samurai kindly stole for his "Space Amoeba" plug.

The newest version of Advance features the Baby Blob, a large transparent gelatinous space-faring organism that doesn't like you, and that wobbles instead of rotating. Future versions of the plug will feature a Giant Blob which will spawn off Baby Blobs, and a Mother of All Blobs which will spawn off Giant Blobs. 😉 (Have there been second-order fighters in EVO before or is this a premiere?)

In order to see the Baby Blob in action (the resource picts don't tell you much), hang around the empty systems north of Raigar (on the upper left corner of the map).

The new version of Advance is available at (url="http://"http://evoadvance.tripod.com/advance_bb.sit.hqx")http://evoadvance.tr...ance_bb.sit.hqx(/url)

      Have fun.

    • "Stole?" You had an idea and you wanted someone to put it in a plug. I did. You don't need to  at me.

But of course, your horrible (in the good sense :)) getinous blob will probably be awesome. I'll download it, anyway. As for second-order fighters? This is the first I've heard of it, but don't take my word. Maybe someone like Andrew or Martin Turner can tell you. Anyway sounds like a sweet idea!

    • To my knowledge this will be the second instance of second-spawning "fighters". I believe that Femme Fetale provided for this in one of those cosmic phenomena that were so prevalent.

    • I've got two members of the blob family now: The Baby Blob and the Giant Blob. Next up: The Mother of All Blobs. 😉

PS: I'm still working on those animated GIFs. The last ones I came up with were black-and-white, and not looped. :frown:

    • WOW!!!  Really like 'em, Cinga. Hope the plug comes out soon!

But if the blobs can't move and only wobble, how could you see the launched baby blobs? Just wondering.

They do move. It's just that when they change direction, their sprite doesn't just rotate, but deform.

And Samurai: I used Infini-D. Deformed spheres with transparent textures etc.

OK. I understand now... That should make for some interesting in-game effects.

    • I tried doing this once, but I couldent get any graphics. My ships were made from a super-advanced race that could heat all parts of the ship, but somehow not burn themselves. They split as they rotated so they could avoid incoming missles.
