I know that someone else must have done this, but based on the ship guide, etc., it is implied that capturing the Dreadnought is impossible, since you only encounter it during a specific mission, when it cannot be boarded, and must be destroyed. Add the fact that that mission string seems to come early in the game, and it is hard to imagine getting a crew big enough to have the slightest chance of capturing it.
However, let me share my technique with you all. First, get the Dreadnought mission, then ignore it. For a really long time! Wait until you finish the Anna mission string, and buy yourself a nice big UE Cruiser. Save a copy of your pilot file at this point.
You'll probably have all the escorts you need at this point (Zidaras, Iggys, Adzgari Warships, whatever ), so go back to the system where the Dreadnought awaits, and just sit there for a little while. Let the UE forces get really chewed up. The hardest part of this is not accidentally destrying the damn Dreadnought. HOLD your escorts. Then (and this is the clever part) abort the mission, and immediately engage the Dreadnought head-to-head. Make sure you are the only two ships left in the system (except for your HOLDING escorts). The dreaded Dreadnought can then be disabled, and you get a 3-12% chance of capture. Now, of course, if you fail, go back to your saved file, and revert, repeat, and enjoy your amazingly powerful new ship!
I even did this twice and kept the SECOND Dreadnought as my primary vessel and still have one as a friggin escort! Then, you can finally kill the damn thing off if you want to
