Wow, you really DO care. It just warms my cockles knowing I still have compatriots, here.

No, I didn't die or get whacked by an irate EVO board member -- I lost my job, and my convenient internet access along with it. So now I am back, but I may only be able to visit every couple of days.

Anything interesting happen in my absence (since the beginning of the month)? Any killer new plug-ins? I notice the Macintosh love-in still rages. Did'ja all hear about the newest iBook releases? The iBook SE now has DVD, 10Gigs, and a 466MHz processor, all for the same price! Some one hire me, please, so I can afford one!

    • i recommend you looking at the EV3 board and the Ambrosia (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/news/upcoming/")upcoming page(/url).
The iBook is cool and there's a Power Book G4 to be released soon.

    • Powerbook G4? Really? I had heard lots of rumblings about how the G4 chip ran far too hot for a laptop. What have you heard, and where?

Hardly the worthiest of news sources, but the info is there, alright. Somehow Apple engineers managed to get a G4 into a PowerBook so that it won't melt in your lap.

    • well pardon me if im totally wrong and missing out on something and this sounds really stupid, but, as the G4 cube doesn't have a fan, the chip couldn't run that hot, could it? or did they run into some problem miniturizing it?

One sign you've been playing EV/O too long:

An excellent observation -- and a clue as to why Apple is known widely as the R&D; department of the computer industry. I read an excellent review of the Cube's architecture in MacAddict magazine, and it is fanless because the engineers essentially started with a giant heat-sink and built outward from there. You can't do that with a laptop. And, incidentally, reports of early G4 laptop prototypes were that they were melting the tabletops. But the MacInsider report Cold Fusion mentions above said that Apple has retooled the G4 chip to run cooler and with less power. And the best part about Apple coming out with a G4 Powerbook? The G3s will drop in price!
