    • Small, important EV1.0.3 request from an "elder"

I've been playing EV or EVO for about 6 years now ... my speciality is fleet (captured escorts) tactics. Therefore, I would be REALLY grateful if it were possible to "turn off" the fleet until further notice. That is, when someone enters a new system, the fleet is still in the non-firing mode. This is particularly when your have a fast, quick responding, fleet and you're trying to stay out of trouble for the moment. Sometimes it's impossible to stop them before they have fired at least something. In "reality", I would have the ability to order my Captins to "stand down".

      Thanks

    • that would be cool although if you're reflexes are quick enough you can stop your ships before they fire

    • It's very difficult when you have a responsive and agressive fleet (which is a good fleet)! I don't believe this sort of "control issue" should be part of the reflex-testing of the game such as is combat. Besides, some of the delay may come from hardware.

    • You should be able to order your captins to stand down. You wouldn't belive how many Crec. warship escorts I'v lost because some stupid guy gave the order to launch a SAD.

    • if you do go into a enemy system with enemy ships and your escorts are stood down and the enemy was equal to or better than your escorts, the escorts would lose tactical surprise and get slaughter. They're AI ships too. They fire at enemies only and if your Voinian ships are so good why couldn't you save them.

      ------------------

    • I find the 'hold position' command works perfectly adequately for keeping my escorts in line. Especially in version 1.0.2, where all attacking fighters seem to go straight for me... my escorts gang up on enemy fleet carriers while I lure away their fighter cover. If my escorts' shield status looks bad when I check it from time to time, I 'park' them all and go it alone for a while... but as long as you fight well apart from your escorts, they don't get shot at too much.

    • The point is that when you enter a new system, you have to "remind" your fleet not to take shots at predisposed hostiles. This is something a Commander should be able to communicate to even the most stupid escort while in hyper-space.

Unfortunately, to do this at the time of "warping-in" (or is it hypering-in) is quite difficult when your fleet is quick at the trigger, and of a variety of ships. Various ships warp-in at slightly different times so I end up having to repeat the Hold command several times, at best, when I would rather be doing something else such as searching the system or dodging attachs. Often, you want to enter a hostile system and NOT cause trouble so that you can land, or not get killed (such as a system with several Alien Command Ships).

I believe it is a VERY basic command and very useful, and should not be particularly difficult to add.

    • Fair point, Cruiser; you're right. Things would be easier if there were more escort options, and if they would obey the same orders from one hyper jump to the next.

There ain't never going to be an EV(O)1.0.3 though. :frown:

    • EV3. 'nuff said.

Go post your ideas there; hopefully Burch himself will hear your pleas.
