I just wanted to know when some new plugins would be released?
      Anybody working on anything big?

As I said on the nova board, All CAP topic names are annoying, dont do that. Along with mutiple "???" "__" or other such anomalies for good measure.

      Hello Mr. SLA,

Yes, several people are working on plug-ins, some small some large. They will be released when they are ready.

One thing to keep in mind is that the editor for plug-ins, Coldstone, has some minor bugs in it that are being worked on. An update to it is expected relatively soon. Development for plug-ins has slowed in the interim as some platforms using Coldstone make development extremelly frustrating. For others it is not so bad.

A good idea would be to keep an eye on the Coldstone forum, the Coldstone Newswire, and also to drop by #coldstone on irc.ambrosia.net. You're more likely to hear about upcoming plugins and games in those locations. šŸ™‚

    • Well, I hate to say this, but PoG and Coldstone seem to have been a bit overshadowed by EV Nova. We spacefaring knights will have to get the "spacefaring" part out of our systems (I've agreed to some pretty weird EVN-type things) before we can turn our attention to our old PoG plug-ins, blow off the dust, and get to work. For now, you'll just need to have patience while we get ourselves out of whatever we've gotten ourselves into (the key word here being "patience").

I think that's because all the big hullabaloo about POG was the fact that it was Coldstone. Everybody was all excited to see how he could make his own video games. Other than Coldstone, POG is a lot like Cythera.

Now we know that Coldstone is so buggy and limited in scope it's almost pointless to use until they come out with the next version. And nobody has said anything about when that will be, so there's nothing to look forward to. Nobody's making plug-ins until the next version of Coldstone comes out either.

I think that when the new version of Coldstone comes out, POG will come alive again if the new version is good. If the new version isn't much improvement, though, POG will most likely die and never come back to life.

      Mr. Daveman Deluxe,

Thats not true. There are several people that I know in addition to myself who are currently developing plug-ins. Some people haven't begun any actual code work yet because they are still brainstorming, writing the storyline, etc. Others, like me, are working on the parts that we can do, and will hold off on the "buggier" parts until the update is released.

Actually, the plug-in I'm currently working doesn't involve much use of the buggier parts of CGE, and the parts that do are minor enough that I shouldn't have many problems. I am however relying on a new feature of the update, so I will either wait to release my current plug-in until after the update is released, or if it looks like I will finish this one quite a while before the update is released then I may release it with certain parts disabled(which to the end-user will be transparant, just one branch of the storyline would be missing), and then re-release it once the update is out. We'll see how the plug-in progresses and play it by ear.

I would agree to the above up to a certain point. I think the update will generate some more life into PoG, especially when the plug-ins begin flowing. That alone will generate more interest in PoG. If the update is still buggy it will depend on what the bugs are and how they affect plug-in building that will determine how quickly plug-ins are created. Hopefully everything will be fine.
