    • POG error

I downloaded the full POG from the Ambrosia ftp site today. I launched the application running Mac OS 9.2.2 and got the register dialogue box (i have not registered yet), and the full screen mode dialogue box (which i choose yes to). After that POG switched resolution and color modes but left me with a blank black screen. I could not use (Command Q) to quit so i force quit. I read the manual to learn how to change full screen mode into window mode and started POG again. The same thing happened except this time it was a black screen with what appeared to be a small square box of noise in the center of the screen. I tried to switch window modes because i thought the resolution change was the problem but it didnt work so i force quit again. Finally I doubled the amount of preferred memory and launched POG, same exact things.

These symptoms exists whether or not the Trinity Plugins Folder is present. However when it is present it shows up on the black screen. I took a screen shot (the attachment). The white noise in the center on screen appears as a box in the screen shot. I have no clue what is wrong. The same symptoms occur in Mac OS 10.1.2. There is a screen shot of it, this time i only tried windowed mode.

this is a link to screen shots of what i am describing (url="http://"http://home.earthlink.net/~jkishina/temp/pog/")http://home.earthlin...shina/temp/pog/(/url)

I really like Ambrosia and have registered their other products. I downloaded POG but cant even start it up. Thanks for trying to help. My system info is below.

      G4 Quicksilver 867 Mhz, 1.5 GB RAM, GeForce 3
      Mac OS 9.2.2 US and 10.1.2 US, Quicktime 5.0.2, CarbonLib 1.4, POG v 1.0.1

    • Mr. Pumilamac,

The only thing I can see slightly outdated on your system is your version of CarbonLib, which may or may not cause your problems. Either way I would update it to version 1.5, which you can do (url="http://"http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=7883&db;=mac")here(/url). Update it and try running POG again. If you can not get it to work then make a post on the (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=2&SUBMIT;=Go")Help is on the Way(/url) forum, where Ambrosia's tech support person, David Dunham, hangs out.

Also, what resolution and color depth is your monitor set to?

      Good luck.

      Mr. Aardvark,

The problem with dual processor machines is an issue with Coldstone Game Engine which was used to design and create Pillars of Garendall, and this issue will be fixed when it is updated(one would assume). There is no release date on the update, only that it will be released when it is finished. It is currently in beta testing though, and has gone through 3 revisions. So hopefully we are close.

And the pig latin was a filter that was installed on this web board for moderators. All moderators spoke in pig latin for the day, and any mistakes were the result of the filter, and not their proficiency in the language.

Good golly gosh! Finally I feel like I've gotten an answer I can live with. I looked in the Help boards and found nothing to my satisfaction. Thank you Mr. Bledfast 🙂

By the way, how is it that you have the skinny on all things PoG. I must say, I've quite impressed.

Thanks. Most of my info comes from playing the game and reading the boards. This board, the Coldstone board, and the Help is on the Way board have a lot of information on them about POG, problems that occur, etc. Reading all three gives a pretty good picture of the game. I also use the search feature extensively. 🙂

Mostly though, I'd say that I like the game so I take an active interest in it. Which is one of the reasons I wrote the (url="http://"http:////http:www.avalon.net/~honda/pog/pogwalkthrough2a.htm")Walkthrough and Compendium(/url). You'd be amazed at some of the things I picked up on when I was writing that.

      Anyhow, thanks for the compliment.

    • To the Powers that be....

Please give Mr. Bledfast may-o-gobs-heaps-bunches of good Karma. I used search to find out why my dual processor machine (god-like magic box) couldn't play PoG, and narry a reply came (he even clued me into NOT posting all sorts of spam - as it makes the Almighty smite and spiteful). And then, here, in this very thread, a clear and concise - as well as acceptable - note came....and he even corrected my spelling error...what a guy!

So, please, please, please, give him yet another karma point (or two), as he helps keep these boards spam-free, and does the work of a thousand regular netters 🐵

I assure you that Stark has bleeped on many a mod's good karma radar (well, I can't assure you that MANY mods have noticed, but I sure have) for being helpful, both here and on the Help on the Way board.

    • Ok, this is going to sound like absolute bunk, and I'm prepared to receive the brunt of your critisisms, but I'm just not happy dealing with anything "9" and Classic falls into that catagory, so here's the question (notice that there's no email in which to spam)....

How can I launch PoG in Classic?

Waiting for your replies and feverishly creating emotional walls so that my asinine questions will not bequeath a torid of insults (nor viking convestibles),

"Show Info" on the PoG application (select it in the Finder and hit Command-I). In the window that appears, there is a checkbox labeled "Open in the Classic environment." Check it. Launch PoG. And voilá! 🙂

      Mr. Pumilamac,

I'm sorry, but I haven't seen anything similar to the problems you are describing. I've seen you post on Help is on the Way and thus far haven't been able to get PoG running yet. At this point I can only recommend that you send an e-mail to help@ambrosiasw.com and open up a dialogue with them in an effort to get you up and running. If they are able to help, please post back what the solution was so that we know and can help anyone else that may experience this problem from going through the ordeal that you have unfortunately gone through.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
