    • Hyperspace Speed

The hyperspace speed in EVO is :
      707 billion kilometers per hour.
The hyperspace speed in regular EV is :
      1.63 trillion kilometers per hour.

how, exactly, did you find this out?

    • yeah, Id like to know that too... Where did you find the distance between the stars? In EV, you probaply used Alfa Centauri, but wich star did you use to find the distance in EV:O? I don't recognize any of the star system around sol. And which ships did you use for the jump?

    • I used Alpha Centauri for EV, and I used the shuttle. I messed up on the EVO calculation, I'm gonna have to redo it.

      Here's what I did :
It would take 4.3 years to get to Alpha Centauri at the speed of ligh, so that means the ships go faster than light. Then I worked with it taking a day to reach Alpha Centauri in EV. So I tweaked the numbers a bit, did a little guess and check work and found 1.63 trillion kilometers per hour. My summer sucks, so I was bored.

There are a bunch of stars in EVO that you can easily find on any star chart.
Such as Aldura, Mira, Centauri (refering to alpha centauri), etc. I could go on and on, but I don't want to.

    • The distance between Sol and Mira is approximately 100 light years. Traveling simply at the speed of light it would take one hundred years to reach Mira (it would be 28 years for the crew because of time dilation 😉 ). This 100 light year journey from Sol to Mira is made in ten hyperspace jumps. At twenty-four hours per jump it equals two-hundred-forty hours to make the journey.

Speed is equal to Distance divided by Time.

      D/T = S
      100 (light years) / 240 (hours) = S
      100(9.46 trillion) / 240 (hours) = S
      946,000,000,000 (kilometers) / 240 (hours) = S
      3,941,666,666.7 (km/h) = S
Then I must divide that number by ten, because there were ten jumps to reach Mira ...
394166666.7 (km/h) equals the speed necessary to make one hyperspace jump on the journey to Mira from Sol.

That would be the science of a hyperspace journey to Mira. Now, from Sol to Alpha Centauri is a journey of (approximately) four-point-three light years. That journey is one hyperspace jump away, totalling twenty-four hours as the total time during the jump.

      D / T = S
      40,678,000,000 (km) / 24 (hours)
169,496,666.77 (km/h) = S = Speed of one hyperspace jump from the Alpha Centauri star system to the Sol system in only 24 hours.

The speed that the hyperdrive sends ships out at must differ, because both speeds differ, for one hyperspace jumps. These were both tested with an Arada starship in Escape Velocity : Override.

Feel free to check my math...

    • 100 years of 'real time' = 28 years after time dilation? Noooooooo... Strictly speaking, if one were to travel at the speed of light, the speed of passengers and such inside the ship would have to be 0, according to relativity.

      ------------------

    • nooooo
At the speed of light, 150 yrs = 5 yrs. They did a whole bunch of tests at the linear accelerater at Stanford University.

    • I'm pretty sure Captain Bob is right. According to relativity, the time dialation factor is: sqrt(1-(v^2/c^2)), which is 0 when v=c. The time dialation factor you gave, 5/150 = 1/30 gives v=.99944429003766*c, very close to, but not quite the speed of light. (This makes sense for data coming from an accelerator, as traditional matter cannot reach the speed of light, although accelerators have come very close)

      ------------------

    • I meant it would be 28 years as a round trip.

    • It would be 28 years round trip at .99944 times the speed of light, but at the speed of light it would be 0 years round trip (see my last post for details)
