    • Ironies in EVO

I have noticed several ironies in EVO lately. For instance, your contacts for the latter parts of the Igazdra missions are named Accompaniement and Medley. The other one I found was the pirate system named Pariah and the planet there called New Alcatraz. If anyone else found anything that the was put in there and is even slightly punny(groan), let's hear it.

    • In EV, there is a system named Zaphod with a planet named Beeblebrox, or vice-versa

    • ya got it right, i remember tha system

    • That's not ironic, it's a pun. Irony is an unexpected outcome, whereas a pun is a play on words.

Sorry for being the Grammar Police, but it's a pet-peeve of mine that people are always misusing irony. Alanis Morisette, (sp?) for instance, has no concept of what it means. Her song should be called "gee, that sucks" not "ironic."

    • I don't think that EV/EVO is ever "ironic". What would be ironic, is the UE navy paying me well over 10 million credits, and still losing the war with the voinians.

    • In Frozen Heart/Femme Fatale, in the description of New Brussels, it says the same text in English, Flemish and French... almost. In English and Flemish it says that "all three languages are spoken equally." In French it says that "The dominant language is French." Typical. Cheers to Martin Turner.

Your right. People always misuse the word ironic, or irony. For instance, one time i was at a baseball, and the anouncer guy said (Which other than being non-ironic, was very stupid) "Isn't it ironic that both these teams are having a good year, and there is Goodyear blimp flying over the stadium!"

    • LOL!!! Gotta love that. How about this:
"It's like rain on your wedding day, a free ride when you've already paid, it's the good advice that you just couldn't take..." --Ironic, by Alanis Morissette (sp?)

Sorry Mr. T...my german is getting a little rusty so let's see how close I am. You want to know if I speak German. You have spent two years learning german in school. You can speak it better then everyone else in your class(?). You also spent a month in Germany during the holidays. I only caught something about summer in the last sentence. How close was that???

P.S. Ubermannen is German for overpower. 😄

    • Sorry Mr. T, after looking again, you asked if German was my first language. It is not, I am mostly American(see Gav's post 'English, American etc.'). However I have studied German for the past three years and am decent. I am however not fluent.

Very close, in fact so close that to correct it would be to pick nits.

At any rate, I was just curious, since I know we get a lot of french speakers on this board, and you're the only person I've seen who obviously speaks German. How long has it been since you learned it?

C'est bon! Le français dois ętre la langue dominante partout! C'est la destinée, naturellement. Vive la plus belle langue!

    • Thanks for the link. But I'm not sure I agree with the way they divided things up. For example, Arabic is divided into several different languages, when in reality, there is not a lot of difference between them, and most Arabic speakers can understand Egyptian-spoken Arabic since it is used in a lot of media (like movies), just like most English speakers can understand middle-American English.
Also, they don't clearly list in which countries a language is one of the official ones, and in which it is secondary. (I know that French is the official language in many N. African countries, for example, and one of the official languages in Switzerland and Belgium.
