    • 1.0.3?

I have just read the webboard and developers board for EVO and have just found how many bugs have cropped up. This is terrible. The good stuff added is outweighed by the amount of bugs that it comes with. I think that an EVO 1.0.3 update should be worked on. I don't mean to pester, but I am using 1.0.1, as it has less bugs. Also, try making 1.0.3 an updater for all the AI, not just fighters and the monty python. You will proberbly just say that you can't, won't, shoudn't or something like that. This may be coming from one member, but I speak for many of the people who are dissapointed slightly with the 1.0.2 update. Also, Idon't think you should abandon EVO. EV made it up to 1.0.5, and, according to you Andrew , EVO was more successful than EV. If this is so then why does it not get the treatment of EV. Many people have gone off of EV, and look to EVO for new things. What heppens when they get board of EVO too, then what? I personaly think that you, Matt, should at least suggest to Andrew to undertake a project like this, or more likely Andrew you should try to convince Matt. All I'm really sayin is that it would not have to be as good as 1.0.2, or even a major update at all, just fixing the bugs that 1.0.2 brought. I can't see it taking a very long time to simply re-beta test it and fix the bugs, and nothing really new would have to be added, just fixes, as I have said. Please take this seriously and not just wave it away as some kind of useless plead, and I know you have a lot on your plate with NOVA ect. butI do this is important. Do it for us, eh Andrew?

    • About themore AI buisness, I think it would be better to actualy leave that out, and concentrate soley on the bugs. I beg that you reply to this and not just ignore me, though you seem an alright guy (apperently :p), and i'm sure you will take this seriously. Thank you.

    • As you all probably know, I realy think so too. I think 1.0.2 new features are great, but since it´s the final upgrade I think you should fix the bugs, and there are many. I realy hope you will do something with this, as I think you are a great company.

    • the AI's are still just as dumb, i can take out a carrier in my freight courier using monty python, and i killed a krait in a shuttlecraft. however, ive found only one bug, and that may just've been lack of memory on my part...i would still like to see MPEV...

    • EVO 1.0.2 was fairly well tested -- we even did a public beta for the product, and got some great feedback there. No product will ever be bug free, and there are some bugs in 1.0.2, but from what I've read on these boards, none of them are major bugs at all.

I agree. So far I haven't heard of anything that would warrant a bugfix release... in fact many of the "bugs" being reported are actually imaginary, or at least a result of misunderstanding.

    • Yes, but there are still many bugs left. It woudn´t take too long time to fix that, would it?

      Oh, since you are here:
Is there any way to recover pilot files that was played strict, but you was erased when you died? Just wondering.

(I deleted my bug fix topic)

If you can't give us a list of the bugs you are talking about, we can't exactly address them, now can we?

We'd be happy to compile a list of bugs in EVO 1.0.2, and have a look at them to see their severity. To my knowledge, there are no major bugs in EVO 1.0.2 -- there are some minor comsmetic issues, spelling errors, and extremely small legitimate bugs in the engine, but that's it.

So again, if you are aware of and upset with any bugs that are in EVO 1.0.2, list them so we can address them. If you can't tell us what is wrong, we certainly cannot fix it.

    • Well i don't have many complaints about 1.0.2, although i have noticed two (2) bugs,
      1. the, dissapearing checkbox, but you already know about that (an there's already aa fix for it :p)
      2. ANOTHER beam bug! the phased beamer apears on the right edge of my screen (to the left of the console thing) when the Zidagar are fighting (it apears at diffrent angles) i have no idea why this happens, it doesn't happen ALL the time, only 80% of the time

oh, BTW, do you think you could do something about the pilot incompatability? perhaps write a "pilot converter" program or something?

    • Good lord, it's not even out a week and people are already complaining. Face it with EV3 being worked on the chances of it happening(quickly at least is next to nill). Doesn't this always happen? Work for 6 months on an update and the second it's out there people want more. I remember this in Starcraft too 🙂

...but I think the point really is that we're not aware of any bugs that are significant enough to warrant working on an update for it.

    • Well, there is this one bug that is really bugging me, cause it plays a role in my plug.

      1. This bug was in 1.0.1 too, I think. It has to do with the govt flag that makes the player not be able to attack certain ships of a specific government. Well, it works for regular sprite weapons but not for beams. This allows player to be able to kill Captain Hector with a beam! Ahh!! Well, that govt flag plays quite a big role in my plug and I would like to see it fixed.

I think I also came across a few typos, but I forgot where. Oh well...PEACE OUT.

    • I havn´t been able to see if it has been fixed in 1.0.2, but if not it is a major bug (in my opinnion). If you work for UE, or the human pirates and get a mission where you have to attack other ships (and you get escorts). If you happen to destroy ONE of your goverments ships, they will attack you on all missions involving escorts from that goverment. I think of this as a bug, you might not, but it is very frustrating on hard missions. I don´t think this is fair. This isn´t a bug either, but if you are going to update EVO again, I would like it "fixed": When your ship starts to explode, you only have seconds to force-quit, but it is realy hard to do so. You must hit ONLY the right keys in order to do so, in 1.0.1 it was easier, it didn´t matter if you pressed a few extra buttons. I don´t remember what the topic was named, but there was reported many bugs there, and many of them seemed to be bugs. If I have misunderstood and thought it was bugs, and it wasn´t, then I take it back. Oh, since you are here, could you answer this simple question for me? When you play strict, and you die, your pilot file is trashed. When I use Northon Utilities to fully recover it, EVO won´t open it, why is this? Is there any way to "override" it? Thanks for your time. Cya.

That was fixed in the update, maybe you are using one of the public betas that had that bug.

Well as I recall, the old EV 1.0.5 was supposed to be completely bug free.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door-
      Only this, and nothing more."

No software is bug-free -- and I fail to see how this is relevent?

    • It may not be a bug, but i think you went overboard on the jamming. SAD modules and needle missiles are near useless. what's the point of launching sad modules if theyre just gonna move around in a circle and flash till they die?
I've also noticed problems with beams appearing on the side of the screen.

You also forgot to change the versions on override data 1 & 2, they still say 1.0.2b3 by Peter Cartwright. either that, or they are the wrong files.
Also the 1.0.2 full installer on your addon page isnt 1.0.2, its 1.0.1.

I partly agree and partly disagree with the above statement... the bugs I've found (the non-recharging Cargo Transports, the misallocated Zidara slots, the wonky UE Marine Gear text, and the somewhat over-applied weapon jamming) are NOT bugs in Matt's engine, but in the scenario file... This means that in theory, Ambrosia can fix all of these problems by releasing a "EVO Tuneup" file in much the same way one of the releases of EV Classic was fixed.

I'd make such a plug-in myself, but I'd be tempted to "fix" the slow firing rate of the Voinian turrets, and that would require some reblancing of the Voinian and Emalgian ships to still be fair. The "enhanced neutron turret" used internally by EVO for some ships would also have to be tweaked to maintain visual consistency. (For the record, I did make such a plug-in for 1.0.1 about a year ago, but I lost it and I don't remember releasing it.)

    • The only use of SAD, SAE and other needle missiles is that, now, they make pretty geometrical figures in the sky. Well, that's not really true, because if, like I did, you get 5 Igazra's escorts, you'll realize that, in mass, the SAE really kick's ass, even a little too much. I can't even jump in a system without getting all the enemy ships destroyed in a second. So, I know that's not a bug, but what really troubles me is this : your escorts jump in a few seconds before you do, and act before you can stop them pressing V, destroying everybody, even the ones you would not like to If there ever was a 1.0.3, could it be that you can stop them quicker (I finally had to release them, they were spoling all the fun)

And I know I signalled a false bug (well, at least, it was not a bug in 1.0.2, but as it was not either in the plug-in, I don't know where it came from).

But to end this thing we'd call in french a logorhée, I'd just say by many points 1.0.2 kick's ass (at least, now the kraits are worth something and you can have fun killing Human renegades) 😛

Happens on me too. And I'm definitely using 1.02.

Also: Sometimes the enemy ships go way faster than they should be able to.
I'm talking about a Helian catching my Arada going full speed.
(When they turn next, they drop back to normal speed)

Occasionally big enemy ships turrets shoot twice as far as my similar ones.
Voinian dreadghnaut did this, I thought it was a feature. But the next
time I saw one, normal distance. Also happened with Igaznrastwhateverdra.

Slowing down the game decreases the distance your shots fly.
