I am seriously stuck one "Kill the Chimera" level. I know what I'm supposed to do, but I have this minor difficulty: I'm flying one of those 3 podded couriers!!! How do you disable the Chimera with 1 laser turret? Also, are there any other missions I could complete while I build up to a better ship? I already have the Tachyonic Drive, and can't find any other missions. Please help!!!

    • A trick to this mission is to hire a small fighter craft as escort...a Gladiator would do fine. Fly into the system and try to avoid the big torpedoes the Chimera shoots. Your Gladiator escort will engage him. Since the mission directs him to "Attack Player," the Chimera will not retaliate and remain concentrated on killing you. Tell your Gladiator to hold position once the Chimera is disabled (he has minimal defenses, shouldn't take very long. Take care not to destroy him.)

If you can't outrun the torps, try downgrading to a Wanderer. If you fly diagonally at a certain angle you can outrun the torps. (I did this mission in a Wanderer with one Gladiator escort hired from the nearest planet)

      Good luck,

    • I'll try that. By torps, do you mean the other Chimeras that it generates? Those seem to be what keeps getting me.

    • OK, I did that. My gladiator engaged him. He never went disabled though. All of a sudden he just vanished from my targeting. He's still on my radar. I can't target him, and he's just sitting there like he's disabled. But since I can't target him, I can't board him. HELP!!

    • Yep, from what you described, you got the Chimera killed, not disabled. The Chimera has little defenses and the Gladiator fires lasers rather quickly. Watch the battle...the instant it says DISABLED hit the key to make your escort hold position.

There seems to be a problem in EVO that doesn't detonate the Chimera when it is destroyed. same thing with Ion Storms. Very odd.

    • Are you sure it's not just taking an extremely long time to blow up? In other words, does it have a really long death delay? Some plugin designers put the death delay up to over 32000 on certain ships, so you have to stick around in the system until they blow or you don't complete the mission. Very annoying. Almost as bad as setting the mass to over 32000...

Of course, this could work to your advantage. Since the game doesn't register a ship as being destroyed until it actually explodes, you can jump out and back in again if you accidentally destroyed something you were supposed to board.

      (Insert witty remark here)

    • No, I've checked the data file. The death delay is set to 0...maybe that is the problem...

Furthermore, if it was set 32000, little tiny explosions would be apparent on the graphic. That is not the case.

Again, my conclusion is that since death delay is set to 0, there may be some problem pertaining to that.

Aye, if the Death Delay is set to zero the ship dosn't blow up. It jsut stays there.

Actually, that happens if the DeathDelay is anywhere below a certain minimum (I believe it's either 5 or 10).

    • In any case, hiring an escort works, as long as you watch for the Chimera's brackets to turn gray and then stop the escort from "destroying" it...Speaking of Ion Storms...I captured a lil one and now Magellan systems list me as "Not Welcome" or "Minor Offender", either not allowing me to land and/or firing on me! I need a cheaper way to clear my name than a fake ID....

    • The Chimera gets messed up with EVO version 1.0.2. If you have 1.0.2, the Chimera just dies after 1 laser shot, so its imposible to disable it. Download version 1.0.1 again... and it's okay if you started a pilot file with 1.0.2... for some reason 1.0.1 seems to have no problems with 1.0.2 pilot files. Once you have 1.0.1, just shoot the chimera with about 5 to 10 laser shots and it'll get disabled. run away from the torps, board it, and you're done
