    • EV3 is coming!

In an interview at MacCentral, Andrew said they are working on EV3!

      snip

MG: Sources close to Ambrosia (well, okay, the peanut gallery on GameRanger) seem to be abuzz with a near-mythical multiplayer sequel to Escape Velocity ... any truth to the vicious rumors?

AW: We actually are working on a threequel to Escape Velocity -- with significant revisions to the engine, 16 bit graphics, movies, etc. It's a nice step forward in technology for the Escape Velocity engine, while keeping everything fans like about the game in there. No, it will not be networkable. 😉

Check out the whole article: (url="http://"http://www.maccentral.com/news/0005/30.playmakers.shtml")http://www.maccentra...laymakers.shtml(/url)

(And I know someone posted this in the other two EV forums. I wanted to post it here first. So there. :p)

Start coming up with ideas and improvments! Maybe Ambrosia will use one of them.

(And please don't say "Make it multiplayer" or "Make it 3D". It isn't going to happen. Get over it.

Well, you can say that if you want, but I'll just ignore it. :))

    • Only question, though, is Nova EV3? Frandall has been acting very strange on Blazer's Board lately. Saying that lawyers are getting involved in relations between Atmos and Ambrosia. He also seems to know a lot about this EV3. I think Atmos has SOMETHING to do with EV3. Probably they are just beta testing it or something. EV3 should support plug-ins, and Ambrosia probably wants the best plug-in makers to try it out first. Or something like that. Or maybe Nova is EV3. I don't know. I'm blabbering on and on about something I know NOTHING about. I feel like George W. Bush! 😉

I didn't mean to -- I think it's a very pretty game, and I think it can be quite a bit of fun to play. It's just that there's so much potential for online gaming that is being ignored in fragfest-style games.

    • Nova as EV3...

      That's a nice thought.

Could it be? With all of those super-spiffy (wait, make that Freakin' Awesome!) graphics, 16-bit color would help alot.

Either way, I can't wait for Nova or EV3.

What's strange is Ambrosia has said for a while that they would not be doing any more work on the EV engine.

      Hmmmmmm....

      The debate heats up.

Just watch out for black helicopters. 🙂

    • What im wondering is why they couldnt do some cubed-off EVO graphics (the Voinian fighter for example) and shove it into a modified Avara engine. Only with no gravity and with some capacity for flight control. Wouldn't that be cool?

It's feasible at least, considering the avara 3d engine is there. Other game makers have made about 200 games from a modified Q2 engine. It would be simpler than creating a game engine from scratch...

Nah, they only said that there wouldn't be any updates to EV or EV:O (after 1.0.22 that is...). Matt Burch specifically said the option was left open for a third EV.

    • I hope EV3 will be something entirely new and different and not just another EV clone

    • Check out what Frandall said on Blazer's board:

"ATMOS is only associated with ASW insofar as it is writing a scenario for one of its products. That is it."

      ...grin...

    • I hope they implement cloaked ships in EV3. Ships that colak and decloak in the middle of the game would be cool!

    • 16 bit color? Damn, too much for my Mac. Ah, well, I wasn't really expecting any new EV game to run on my Mac anyways.

    • If we beg/plead/ask/demand/hold our breaths to we turn blue, perhaps Ambrosia will consider our requests for the next EV. I have no idea if anyone will read this but if here is my wish list for the next EV

      "In the cockpit" views/fighting
      Updated graphics
More places to go and things to do on the planets
More planets than EV, less than EVO

      Any other ideas?

      B)

Definitely not 3D first person graphics. That's not what EV is about. Play Parsec, or something, if you want 3D space action.

Updated graphics: obviously. That's what they're doing; making 16-bit graphics.

More stuff to do on planets: yes... but not so much as to take away from the in-ship action.

The number of planets, whatever that may be, is easily changeable with plugs. The initial universe should be big.

Different commodities on each planet each time a new pilot file is loaded.

A different set of ships with different capabilities each time new pilot file is loaded.

Maybe even different mission sets each time new pilot file is loaded.

Anybody care to comment on these ideas?

      ------------------

    • To do all those things you would need an enormous (sp?) amount of time to create all the different graphics and missions, and new ships would boost the file size to an incredible ammount.
