Tha guy, "Gwenole" he talked about sounds like a pretty good lead, and if he can't solve the problem him self maybe he can point us in the right direction.

I think he's probably the person that made SheepShaver, would you like to try and find and E-Mail him?

      Hehe, "like to".

Well it sounds like a lil' work but sure why not. His email (maybe) should be in the read-me for sheep shaver I'm guessing so we should try there first.

My e-mail to him (when we get his address) will tell him of our current delima, will have links to all the topics that are discussing the problem, but first having basicly all the info on the subject in the e-mail, and a Thank you for your time.

Thanks for taking the first step though and asking around in places besides for ASW forums.

    • Well, I'm glad I could be of some help, if any.

    • Ok, sorry for the delay. I had to study for a Biology Lab exam that was today (I think I did well on it). AFter very little work I've come up with these two pages: Page 1, and the more important Page 2. I'm guessing this guy doesn't like spam and therefor doesn't clearly give out his e-mail. Though at the bottem of Page 2 he does give you some cryptic instructions.

If you feel the urge to send me email, send it to my initials at cebix dot net.

I'm guessing on this that his e-mail is, "

      Spoiler

      CB@cebix.net

". (Spoiler tag is for his privacy.) I'll try sending an e-mail his way once I write one up, which should be after I'm done writing this post

In his, "Mac Emulators" section of Page 2 there are four emulators, has Ferazel been tested on all of these? If not then someone should, someone who has classic (I don't).

Hm, I'm puzzled as to who this "Gwenole" person is. He might be a higher-up on the forum you went to Jongod, you should try looking for and talking to him.

I'll probally post the e-mail up later and then let you know what the respone I get is (if I get one). I'm a little concerned that his last update was in January...

    • Ok this is the E-mail I'm thinking about sending him, any suggestions or objections?

      Hi Christian,

My name is Jack, I am a member of the Ambrosia Software webboard, http://www.ambrosias...dex.php?act=idx. For a while now many people on this weboard have been useing your Classic Emulator to run some of the older Ambrosia games, http://www.ambrosias...p?showforum=102. Most of them run great on Sheepshaver (Thanks alot), but one seems to have problems running on it. The game is called Ferazel's Wand, http://www.ambrosias.../games/ferazel/. When ever we try to open Ferazel in Sheep Shaver it opens for a few seconds and then quits for no reason.

Another game called Harry the Hansom Executive, http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/harry/, was made with the same editor as Ferazel's Wand, however Harry is much less detailed and advanced than Ferazel's Wand, but runs great in Sheep Shaver. I don't know if this has any relation.

This is all I know for the most part and for the record I'm not running Sheep Shaver my self but rather I'm representing the people that are trying to run Ferazel in Sheep Shaver. If you need or would like more information please don't hesitate to ask. There have been some topics discussing this problem already. The main topic is here:
      http://www.ambrosiasw.com/forums/index.php...104947&st=0
And a topic with (very) little talk about it here:
      http://www.ambrosiasw.com/forums/index.php...t=0&start=0

My user name on the webboards is Two Jacks (look for the mouse with the red helmet). Ferazel is a great game, dear to many people and they would all love to see it running in your application I'm sure.

I understand if you don't have the time for all this, and if you spend any time on it we all thank you. However if you are unable to help at this time perhaps you could point us in the right direction.

Hope to hear from you soon,
      Jack

    • It sounds fine, as for the other emulators, they wouldn't run Ferezel, as they are meant to run other systems/processors.

I look forward to hearing his response.

      EDIT:
      http://forums.delphi...ages?msg=1557.5

      Look at that.

    • Interesting, though I don't know quite what it means. Does it mean that Sheep Shaver has problem allocating memory?

In the link Jim Watters provided if you click sheep shaver, it will go to the page I linked to in my e-mail. There must be some connection between this Gwenole guy and Christian Bauer, perhaps a nickname? You might want to keep questioning Mr. Watters, ask him more aboue what he told you and who Gwenole is. I'm sending the e-mail now regardless.

The MMU is, as I understand it, basically what allows virtual memory to work; it is part of what lets you write memory data to disk instead of holding all of it in RAM. SheepShaver does not provide one (and never will, don't ask, it's been discussed to death, people will get very annoyed :)). So it doesn't have problems allocating memory persay, but it lacks a feature of all modern computers. I wondered about this problem when first discovering that Ferazel didn't work, but I can't imagine that it would require an MMU and not give any sort of error or anything. But you never know, I guess.

Christian Bauer is the original developer of SheepShaver (and Basilisk II, I think). Gwenole Beauchesne is currently the one developing and maintaining it, and is probably the one you want to email about it. However, there has been very little activity lately, I seem to remember hearing that he was on vacation earlier in the summer and he's probably back and busy on other projects.

I imagine that we're not going to get this to work, but by all means, give it a shot, good luck!

Thanks for the insite. I guess I e-mailed the wrong guy then... Hey to save me some trouble think you clould send me the e-mail addres of Gwenole? 🙂 EDIT: Please!

Even if it doesn't work out, at least we can say we tried!

2nd EDIT: Ok I found one e-mail address for him here. Doesn't look like it's been updated since 2004... I'll send an e-mail his way but I'd liked to know if there's a different more current (that he'll probally check) e-mail address somewhere.

3rd EDIT: I went ahead and sent Gwenole an e-mail to the address in the above link, this is what it says:

Mainly a copy-paste job from my last e-mail to Christian but, come on, I feel it gets the point across well enough. 🙂

    • His website is indeed http://gwenole.beauchesne.info/ and there is some current stuff there (e.g. nspluginwrapper was updated as recently as August). Even SheepShaver has seen a little bit of activity, though not on the web site; there have been a few tiny changes in CVS.

      Edit -- yay 600th post

      This post has been edited by sinclair44 : 07 October 2007 - 08:45 PM

    • Yes, that's the site I linked to in my last post.

If anyone finds an alternate e-mal address for him let me know.

I already sent an e-mail to the two people, I'll post up any information I receive when (and if) I get a reply. Untill then back to Level Editing!

EDIT: Congrats on breaking 600 posts, and in a Ferazel forum no less.

    • Any replies?

    • Nope. None from either lead. I sent them a while ago, I'm expecting to wait a month or so be fore I get a reply. If I don't get a reply by then I doubt I will get one. It's not like I'm going to close my e-mail though, so the door is always open.

I can send another e-mail to another person if you think it would help (alot). Another e-mail (one that gets checked more often) would also help.

P.S. Jack's World is on hold at the moment (editing wise, the obstical brainstorming is not). Once I get enough free time I'll keep working on it. If you'd like your name in the credits, you can PM me a obstical idea and if I use it, BAM, your in.

    • Bah. I have sheepshaver set up, too.

    • I just found this in my bookmarks, anything done here since I last visited?

      Sadly, no.

P.S. I am working on my levelset again.

    • Would it be possible to emulate the MMU within SheepShaver by using software?

    • You mean useing an MMU emulator with SheepShaver?

Interesting. While I don't know if it would work, I'll have to look into it.

    • Anyone tried it yet?
