I'd like to say that I kicked EV in the pants. I captured everything except (of course) Sol, Palshife, and Ruby. I also got over 100k per day for tribute and had a full escort of Rebel Cruisers. Sadly, I moved on to Nova and do the same thing of capturing everything and everyone. 😞 Please don't hate me for bragging.

      A pox on you! 😛

    • I agree, EV's plug-ins were more fun than EVO's. Galactic Scourge ftw. Only the Nova TC "Polycon" has surpassed the fun factor of the original game's plug-ins.

After playing EV for too many hours way back when, I experienced the Tetris Effect for the first time.

My interest in the game caused me to join this web board community, which has affected my life in a number of subtle ways. Hopefully for the better. Without EV, I would never have ended up in Banter and Brawl, which has broadened my knowledge of and interest in music, film, literature, sociology, technology, and all sorts of good stuff.

I liked that plug-in that added more Antinoda ships or whatever. Cool s###.

Holy crap, I remember that one!

    • Haha, I love the tetris effect. And I'll be sure to get WoW haunting my dreams again now that I've quit a second and final time. Luckily I've already gotten some of it from Civ IV already, so with luck I'll just carry on normally.

I have never actually played EVO or EVN. EV ftw!

You created "MAGMA for EV:O" without playing the game?

Edit: And you did that before creating MAGMA for EV, even though you prefer EV to EVO?

I captured all of Sol, without cheats. I'm not bragging either. 😛 I just had a lot of time back then.

I envy you. <_< I might just have to try it myself one day. But until then, kudos to you. Seriously, nice job. 😉

its fairly easy to get harder planets...

      take earth...

      demand tribute from it...

first way: flar as far away as possible then range the ship with torps.. and guns once youve run out

second: fly abit away and then when your onto your shield jump to a neighbouring planet that youve took...

land and it saves... when you go back you only have 1/2 1/3 of the defence to deal with...

its a sorta cheat but hey i only did it for sol and ruby.

oh and obviously it becomes easy when you take say mars.. landing from the sol defence fleet is less time cosuming 🙂

p.s i prefer a whole fleet of confed cruisers to rebel cruisers... they're slow buy pack a huge punch.. plus last longer 🙂

p.p.s well done for getting sol and did you do it with any of my ways?
      hope ive helped?

      Opinion seconded!

First Confed. Bigshot: "Hey, we don't have much cash. Now what do we do?"
Second Confed. Bigshot: "Let's extol money from the outer colonies! We can pay for our war with the aliens that way!"

      I rest my case.

      EDIT: Spelling.

You are wrong. All the governments in EV were morally ambiguous, just like real ones.

    • Even if the Rebels were the bad guys, I'd still be cool with them. Really, I'd join the dark side of the Force if I could. They're just... cooler.

Confeds are announced as being corrupt and having exploited the outer worlds in the opening thingie.
Confeds use a large corporation to transport bioweapons about through neutral space.
Rebels just want independence, but the Confeds are fighting to keep them in their corrupt atrocity-causing organization.

Did you people even play the game?

I did, and I believe my dialogue shows that I know something about them. I played the Rebel Storyline all the way to the end.

    • Don't use the Intro text, it's plainly Rebel lies!

    • Pirates: Bad
      Rebels: Generally good
Confeds: Kind of bad in principle, but they're still nice enough to traders, so they get a 'decent'
      Aliens: Incredibly bad
      Pirates again: Bad

My favorite EV plug-in so far is 'Galactic Scourge'. It even has its own theme music! Plus a lot of systems, additional ships for all governments, new governments, pretty good storylines, new weapons, more aliens (some of them I would rate as 'Generally good'), more pirate ships even.

'rEVisited' is one of the best plug-ins for EVC for Nova.

Heavy rockets have good range and do good damage, but they sure are heavy!

Neutron blasters are only worth it on the big capital ships.

      Pirates are bad (again).

If you can't beat the aliens, try to get a tractor beam. It really helps.

Tractor beams slow down the turn rate of the tractored ship.

      This post is pretty long.

which is, of course, why both sides of the storyline involve the rebels attacking Confederation space, and the Confederation defending it.

and why the rebels enjoy spending their spare time destroying helpless civilian luxury liners.

Even if you believe what the introductory text claims about the Confederation despite its marked variation from what you actually see in the game, the rebels are still pretty obnoxious.

I would have said that if the war against the aliens could be said to belong to any one group of humans more than all the others (which itself is debatable), that group would be the outer colonies — they were by far the most at risk.
