Finally cracked the Test mission this evening. Went on to do beginner missions and so forth. Now the mission panel is empty. I upgraded to a better Gateway, still the mission panel remains empty.
Could somebody please advise

Press the 3x speed button in the upper toolbar until you see missions. If that dosen't work your neuromancer rating may be too low. I beleive that anything below Neutral will keep you out of missions.
