    • Um, I know I should be working on my other game, but...

So, I already have a game I'm working on, right? So I should be concentrating my attention fully on that, right? Yes to both? Oh, boy. Am I in trouble! Well anyway, "Pools of Fire and Ice" has been joined at the front ranks of my puny little game "studio." The game I have begun to work on has a working title of "Rangers of the East." The storyline centers apone the ranger Fensire, who has sworn to protect the forest that surrounds a city from monsters and the like. The game follows Fensire as he begins to uncover an evil cult that is planning to take over the city. Well that certainly falls under the section "and the like"! The game then follows him some more as he tries to sabatoge the forces and stop them. The game will use the PoG graphics, sounds and music and have much more character developement than described above. The whole thing was inspired by the sound track of "Pirates of the Caribbean." Sooooo, please don't attack me for leaving another progect by the wayside, 'cause I haven't! Again, I can't work on this every day and the times I do work on it are limeted (darn parents!). I'll keap you posted!

    • It is fine to take a brake from one game to work on another. It will give you time to gather thoughts and ideas to be used later.

I my self am on a vacation right now and I am taking a rest from any major work on GOE. Plus it gives me time to work on a new secret project(Very Small game)I had ideas for. It will be done soon...

As long as you plan to finish both (Which you said you where), there is no need to explain. It is always better to have two games then only one!

Keep us posted on your progress...

At least you don't need to worry about differences in the engine - it's going to run at the same speed and efficiency in both of them - although I'd guess the interior will look a bit different, and probably the duco will be different too.... πŸ˜‰

But seriously, go ahead. When you're working on anything, it's good to have a couple of sidelines going, so you can drop between them if you feel a stress relief is necessary, or if you just enjoy being mildly schizophrenic. I'm currently in the middle of half a dozen (or so) different stories and scripts, several of which are novel length. How do you cope with that kind of workload?

      Eh. All fun. πŸ™‚

    • OK, let's brinng this topic back into the relm of sanity. I have a problem that needs to be fixed. To avoid having to learn how to use 3D animation programs I am using cutseens (player map icon turns to white, NPC takes over). The cutseen that is causing the problem is one that shows Fensire sneeking towards a road to see a fencis (short, green, strong thing in armor) running across a bridge. When the fencis gets to the other side, what is soposed to happen is that the NPC of the fencis and the NPC of the sneeking Fensire are both deleated. Then, a copy of the fencis is placed on the map where the orrigional one was. Then, the player's map icon turns back to normal and he gets transported to where the NPC of Fensire was. Only when the player is put back in his place, he is still white, and therefore inivisible, and the new fencis isn't there eather. The order of the event exicution that is causing troubles is fencis NPC deleated, new fencis NPC placed, Fensire NPC deleted, playyer map icon changed, map coordinates changed. If anybody has any ideas about this do feal free to throw in your two cents. Thanks

    • As long as it is is in good fun I don't mind.

      As to the topic...
Try to find exactly what part of the event is causing the problem. Then change the order a little. I have had this work for me with events that don't work right. If that does not work delete the event and make a new one. If the event is messed up it might fix it. If both of these ideas still don't work, I would try to change in small ways, until what you want to happen does work.

Good luck, because complex events will slowly kill you. I learned this the hard way.

I wish I could understand what you have written. You mention two NPCs (non-playing characters) but where in the player in all of this? It might be more helpful if you posted a list of the actions you have in this event as they occur in the "event editor."

      Example:

      1. fade effect - fade to black
      2. NPC control - delete fencis, add fencis at X, Y.
      3. map position - move player to X, Y.
      4. fade effect - fade from black.
        etc.

If we know what you are doing in this event, we may be able to help you find the problem. As it is, I have no clue to what you did.

    • OK, now I am in trouble, from you guys. So I'm writing down what was happening in my events practically word for word, when I stumble across a pair of coordinates that can't be correct. What they do is end up sending an NPC east, or to the right, so that when the next NPC replaces it, it misses the bridge that the first one is soposed to cross because it is going up and to the right, into a nook in the river that it can't get out of. If you don't understand this explination, that's OK because the bug is now fixed and has been diagnosed as a bumbling user error. Now I am going to re-word something from my "topic starter": Please don't hurt me! (imagin a comical sene in which I am crawling into the fetal position beneath my chair and wimpering) So now that that is over, I can go ahead with my game and fall blindly into the next user error that will cause me to pull out the other half of my hair.

So now, as an English gentleman would say, "Sorry to have bothered you."

Glad to hear you fixed it.

You can, however, edit your own posts to delete any portion which you no longer want on the boards. If someone else has quoted your post, you cannot delete the part which is quoted from their post.

Edit: You can also request that a moderator delete a post which they might do if it is deemed necessary or advantageous.

    • I had seen that on the top of the edit page it said, "(and only registered users may edit/delete posts)"

Then below it it said, Note "only forum leaders may delete posts"

I was wondering if it was a mistake, but it is not. Rubber Ducky I am guessing by saying "Delete" it was talking about doing what you said in your reply.

Always nice to find out something new...
