A few things you should know about Macs and OS X in general, before I begin my speech:
Mac OS X is Mac's fastest, most streamlined, and most stable operating system. Many people prefer OS 9 for some program bugs/incompatibility, but I think that this is not much of an issue as the Mac OS X operating system comes with a "Classic Environment" where you can run most Classic applications in OS X. One of the most important advantages of OS X is its ability to multitask. 10 apps open at the same time? No problem. They all run great. So you don't have to hold back for OS 9. In addition, Apple has phased out support for OS 9 and will not be introducing new updates for it. If you wait until October 24th, you can get a computer with the newest OS, 10.3. Anyway, on to the long er speech:
Running CS by itself is, as you can see by the above replies, a piece of cake on almost any machine. However, I find that I sometimes like to have Photoshop, Coldstone, Safari (OS X web browser), GraphicConverter, and iTunes (love my music ) open at the same time. OS X is great at handling this stuff which is why I use it. The mentioned bugs have to do with saving in yoru game (i.e. not CS saving, but the game created by it) and with map preview pictures not working (there are a few more little things, but they won't have much effect on you and thus I won't get into them). The map preview pictures bug is not much of an issue as I can do map preview pics in classic CS using the classic environment. Here would be my suggestion of an affordable, yet powerful Mac:
Straight from apple (i.e. 1/2 the cost if you get it anywhere else ), $1,318 for a 60GB HD with 512 MB RAM, 1gHz processor, Combo Drive, 3-year free support and repairs. Yup, it's the eMac
Anyway, sorry for my long windedness. I'm a long time Mac user, and I just decided to impart some of my collected knowledge. Make of it what you will, and congrats on making the switch!
PS: Welcome to CS!
