    • There is o hero

I ve got a problem with Coldstone. I ve created a mini game because I wanted the learn to work with the editor. The game was finished and I started it alll was ok but there was no hero, I searched long time but I saw not the fault. Can anyone say me what I must do that I can see my hero and move him.

    • There's a myriad of possibilities of why your game doesn't work properly, and no-one can determine what's wrong based on the information given. My advice is to take the example adventure you get with Coldstone and copy it (make the neccessary changes of course).

Check for the obvious first - sometimes it's so obvious that you miss it. You did select the player's map, in the Misc. Game Options, didn't you?

    • I have the same problem with the hero, what happens? Where is it?

I have checked the hero map in game options, that's not the problem.

If this has happened to anyone else and has solved it please reply to this post. Thanks

      Hello Benzofat and Mr. NervousIC,

I have a few questions for you gentlemen which may help to identify your problems:

First, what type of animation are you using for your hero? Is it a "stock" animation, ie, one that you got from the ColdStone files, or is it a custom one that you found or created? If it is the latter then make sure it is of the correct type for CS to render(PICT, JPG, PNG, and BMP).

Next, since you are just trying to learn the engine did you take a shortcut and create a blank map so that you could see your player walk around? I found when I was trying to do some NPC screen captures for POG for a guide I was writing that if I just made a blank map (ie, no background, no foreground, just a new map) that nothing showed up on it. I had to create a blank white tile and "paint" the map with the white tiles in order for anything to show up.

Also, on your map, take a look at the order of appearance between your layers. If you have your background layers set to load over your player layer, then your hero is actually being rendered just fine, but he is behind your map, and thus not viewable. Change the layer that the player loads in and everything should be good.

Let us know if any of these do or do not work as if they do not we can look for other reasons why you can not see your heroes.

      Good luck.

    • Or maybe your character's just somewhere offscreen. You could try changing his starting coordinates.

Go into the NPC_Hero folder to see the example of the animation file. At the very top of that folder you see a file named Hero and below that one named HeroBow if you double click on the Hero file you will bring up the animation tool in ColdStone. You say you created a scratch game and if that means animations as well. Perhaps you are mising the file that makes that all happen. Such as the above Hero file you double clicked on. I've had problems creating my own, so I have deleted all the pict animations and placed my own into the open Hero animation in the animation tool. I don't know if others have had a similar problem in creating their own animation files. That was the only work around I found to work for me. Also when you choose to use an animation, make sure you highlight the one animation with the red arrow. Otherwise you only get a still graphic that floats around on the screen as you move your mouse. In some instances that might be a good effect. You know, a flying carpet, or Super hero. 🙂 Only takes one graphic and you have your own unique animation.

Never give up, never say die. 🙂
