Does anyone knowif multiple languages will be supported, in game? I don't mean having all the characters speak in french, I mean having say an elf speak in gibberish until you have an elf in your party to translate, or until you learn elf-speak. I think that would be really reat, and while I know several peopel would think it would just wiegh down the game with mundanity, I think it would make for a very interesting dynamic. So you may have to go learn a language to get a set of missions, and you would have to choose your party wisely, to decide what area's you'd be able to interact with.

Can anyone think of any other ways you could achieve this kind of affect, say an event to change the responses of a set of npc's once you have a certain skill, or party member, could that work?

Also, what do people think of the idea of havin various languages in the game?

    • Just have them speak gibberish until you complete some event, and then have
      them speak regularly.

"To reach the Order I have attained, I traveled deeper into Chaos than I wanted. Now, as I stand upon my shelf of Order, and see the Chaos swirling around me, I realize I haven't come up at all."

    • to pose the question differently, will the game support different fonts? if someone came up with an elvin font, characters could speak that until you learned the language or whatever, change the font to english and you're cruising again.

    • On the Coldstone Hotline server, (read the "How to use hotline and log onto the coldstone server" thread) there is a program that lets you create your very own fonts! It's $99 US, but if you've got a job, it's worth it!

    • if you (by which i mean whoever's reading this) are going to take your first stab at font-creating, make sure you wear your holy socks of patience. it's tough to come up with a good font scheme, tougher to create it on screen, and another whole ball of fun to get the characters to act correctly. even adobe has made some fonts that look nice but will HOSE you if you really need them to look right (for instance, if you typeset books for a living, like i do, at the moment).

      Just thought that was funny.

Just to make sure that this message isn't totally off-topic, what probably would happen is that you would just have a bit set or whatever when you complete a certain mission (like in EV) but this makes people talk to you normally.

There was a thread about implementing Karma in the game, talking about how rumors about you could circulate and would change the way that people act around you. If this is supported, then you certainly could do different languages, I suppose, because a certain event might alter a Karma-like attribute, like "ability to understand elven" or whatever.
